Got 3 monitors, one via DP, one via HDMI and the last on via DVI. The DP one sometimes just won’t realize I turned on my PC, so my DVI is considered as the primary monitor. Gotta restart to fix this. Annoying.
People are too entitled these days :-) I remember a SERIOUSLY expensive custom built multimedia PC (early Pentium era?) taking 2 hours to burn a CD (640MB) and you had to vacate the room because footsteps on the floor caused it to fail.

I never used DVI, I switched straight from VGA to HDMI and probably for my next monitor I'll use display port

@@ingframin Early 1440p monitors had to use DVI because display port wasn't really available on graphics cards yet, and HDMI 1.0 couldn't handle 1440p at 60+ fps. Good times.
Yuup, I work in professional AV, DisplayPort is a pain. The only leg up it has over HDMI is the connector with the retention. HDMI works reliably up to 15m and usually takes 25m depending on the device. Anything beyond that is fibreoptic DVI or HDBaseT (That Graphics Card with the RJ45 ports) territory.
Oh shit ! This got me an idea ! I don't know about the latency, but if they used HDMI over ethernet in something like this, they could have the server running the VMs directly in the server room. This would allow them to connect directly to their NAS, and the only thing they would need is a fiber optic USB 3.0 cable for peripherals and some ethernet cables for displays. I mean unless the latency of HDMI over ethernet sucks, this would definitely be the next step for this project. There would be quite a lot of cables to route but if you route them through the walls you just have HDMI plugs and a USB 3 port with a powered hub at your station. Linus if you don't do this I'll give up on buying a car and I'll do it for you !

Yeah really the only reason it took so long is because they had to do all the R&D and testing for the computer themselves. Apple does all that behind the scenes.

The change in video quality from the beginning of this build to the end is crazy. These last two episodes are by far the best and considering they're part of a series, do a really good job at explaining how the build works.

Tyan are great motherboard for workstations. Not so much for gaming, but if you are building a custom server or a insane workstation, they usually have some motherboard to staify any mad computer scientist.
Asus really screwed up letting that bios issue slip thru on a dual cpu board! The exact ppl who would use that thing are the exact type who would use pcie bifurcation!

@@TLAngus1337 TBF, broken chargeport is like the gas lid welded shut. Once you can't charge it again, it is down to it's last life. And as for the car in this example, it can never get more gas inside of the vehicle and that will be it's last travel.
It's really fun to see you figuring out that hugepages are the key for more performance! That was one of the features I had to enable as well when trying to get my windows kvm under linux up to speed.

Maybe for another set of videos, you could make a series of PCs at common spec levels and test to see how low wattage of a PSU you can install into it without experiencing any drop-off in reliability/performance/functionality? I know id love to see something like that, especially with how overboard some people go with power supply wattage recommendations

The 2 physical chips are working together as 1 virtual unit. CPU stands for "central processing unit" and just because there is more than 1 chip doesn't mean there's more than 1 unit.

Whether you're a PC guy or not, it's hard to justify actually purchasing anything that Apple is producing today, over a comparable PC equivalent.. It is very hard (for all but the most hardcore Apple fanboys) to deny that today, when you're buying an Apple/Mac product, you are paying for little more than a pretentious logo (and satisfactory albeit pretty mediocre hardware/software, with severely-limited available expansion/upgrade avenues).. 😑
Next project is 2 CPUs, all computers in Linus Media Group, using two EPYC Rome 64 cores CPU, that is 128 core and 256 threads and 4TB of memory. That should be enough for everyone, even for a desktop in the toilet.
Well networking is gonna be a HUGE bottleneck ...also even if you had enough Cpu performance you wouldn't even be near having enough performance in graphics department because there is only so much PCI-E lanes for that setup

The first pc I built myself back in 98 had a dual CPU board from Tyan. Good to see they're still around.
Tyan are great motherboard for workstations. Not so much for gaming, but if you are building a custom server or a insane workstation, they usually have some motherboard to staify any mad computer scientist.

Maybe for another set of videos, you could make a series of PCs at common spec levels and test to see how low wattage of a PSU you can install into it without experiencing any drop-off in reliability/performance/functionality? I know id love to see something like that, especially with how overboard some people go with power supply wattage recommendations

Whether you're a PC guy or not, it's hard to justify actually purchasing anything that Apple is producing today, over a comparable PC equivalent.. It is very hard (for all but the most hardcore Apple fanboys) to deny that today, when you're buying an Apple/Mac product, you are paying for little more than a pretentious logo (and satisfactory albeit pretty mediocre hardware/software, with severely-limited available expansion/upgrade avenues).. 😑

Next project is 2 CPUs, all computers in Linus Media Group, using two EPYC Rome 64 cores CPU, that is 128 core and 256 threads and 4TB of memory. That should be enough for everyone, even for a desktop in the toilet.
Screens and networking would probably be the bottlenecks.
Well networking is gonna be a HUGE bottleneck ...also even if you had enough Cpu performance you wouldn't even be near having enough performance in graphics department because there is only so much PCI-E lanes for that setup
