    I love the Romulans (in spite of their ruthlessness). I am fascinated by their creativity and cunning.
    Your description of them is superb: it is thorough and accurate.
    One thing I would add is that the Romulans have a flair for design, like their namesakes from Ancient Rome. They have stylish uniforms, spectacular architecture (the buildings appear to be reaching for the stars), artwork-and-statuary (in the Senate chamber, for example), beautiful clothing, and magnificent ships (my favourite is the Valdore).

    Of course, in star trek Picard, we actually got a semi-answer to the question of why the Romulans have to different looks and that is because of the northern Romulans having the ridge, and the southern Romulans not having the ridge. However, the odd colored heart is still a mystery which could be explained by the 2 races theory.

      Picard has both versions of Romulans, I believe the reasoning is that the ones with the ridges on their foreheads were "northerners" and the ones without were closely related to Vulcans.
      IDK though.

    Remans are not an indigenous race. They were Romulan, however, a smaller faction of Romulans that settled on Remus due to volatile differences of philosophy. Remans and Romulans were both the same species - Vulcan - when they left Vulcan during the Sundering - The Sundering is the split between Vulcans and Romulans after the rise of Surak's followers. Romulans were led by Surak's favored student who spilt with Surak, creating his own philosophy. Think Stoicism vs Cynicism. The mythos of the Vulcan peoples were created in The Original Series as well as by original series authors. (e.g. Diane Duane, The Romulan Way) See the Vulcan's Soul trilogy for the Trek history of the Romulans - when Remans were Romulan. Note: This series was released after Star Trek: Nemesis to explain the founding and history of The Romulan Star Empire. Yes, the Remans get the crap deal with a smaller, extreme planet; thus, develop physical differences from the Romulans who settled Romulus. (Remans reside underground because of the extreme surface.) The names Romulus and Remus are from Roman history - Rome's own founding myth. Vulcan, also is a name drawn from mythology. Vulcan is the Roman god of the forge and fire. These human names for the Vulcans and their off-shoots are discussed in writings by D.C. Fontana and Diane Duane. Roddenberry extensively drew on myths and legends, like Tolkien, but with a science fiction orientation. I grew up watching The Original Series before Next Generation aired. Roddenberry was aware of Greek philosophy, Roman history, and mythology - including the Celtic tuatha de dananns and dark elves of Nordic lore (Bulfinch's Mythology). Therefore, it would be correct to consider them all space elves. And all three Vulcaniod peoples have psi abilities. P.S. You're seeing the Romulans, all the variations, come together in Star Trek: Picard as they have in the novels and canon for decades. They are not necessarily xenophobic, and Star Fleet has their own shame and sins. (e.g. "The Pegasus" Next Generation) And, yes, Romulans have variations of the forehead as well as various hairstyles.

    This was the best race explanations I've seen, I hate when it gets into why a wardrobe change is explained by and the story doesn't interest the teller and they just omit anything they doent care fore. I apriciate the actual lore thank you. Do you have born? Wether it's Wesley or younger? The Q? Or my hope would be the Douwd tbh.

  • @csehszlovakze

    The Mintakans, a "proto-Vulcan" species also has these ridges. There's a theory on r/DaystromInstitute that states that Vulcans are to Romulans what are Augments to Humans. Note that Romulans don't have a problem with their emotions, and they need different species for telepathy (either the Aenar or Remans), which would indicate that they aren't telepathic.

  • @pinkminipuff
    @pinkminipuff 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Barbaric systems? Yes, but I feel like this is the difference between a "enlightened" society ( like Star Trek earthlings, Vulcans etc) and a "advanced" civilization. Many civilizations are advanced and practice racism, slavery, and social hierarchy. Take Roman empire for example, since we are talking about Romulans after all.

  • @thehillbillygamer2183
    @thehillbillygamer2183 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah but the romulans how are they empire if they have a senate and they don't have an emperor if they're based on Rome and they have a senate then I assume that those senators are voted in the office by the romulan people

    Romulans are always portrayed as Wrongulans. They all seem to have good and identical heads of hair, with black being the standout colour. I would hate to be involved in a Romulan Identity parade. 🤔

    You need to revisit this again now that there is new Star Trek cannon based in the Picard series. They even address the differences in appearance in some ways. I think they will probably write it in as part of the official lore of the race soon. Just like what they did with klingons.
