    LYRICS:
I went to the new Eastland in 2016
Everything looked different when I was a kid
I used to go there on the bus, eat cheeseburgers
My friend Didier and I watching all the cars go by
I didn’t recognise the new library at all
    Retro-futuristic architecture, big glass walls
But the same faces were there among the aisles
A little older now, a little further down the line
I used to work there when I was a teenager
Stacking shelves, watching girls read & listening to my tape player
I wrote a story once about it being blown up
By a terrorist sometime after September 2001
Now I’m lost in Eastland’s car park once again
I’m driving underground with the ghosts of my old friends
Rode the escalator to the bottom of the line
I’m trying to figure out what became of all our lives
Now I could tell you about the train stations on the line
This one’s bound for reconstruction at a quarter after nine
They got CCTV and a drive through mall
But the clock tower’s still standing, keeping time for us all
Now I don’t see too many friends from Ringwood anymore
We drifted during high school, that’s just the way it goes
But I still think about them, whether dead or alive
Especially when I’m walking under Eastland’s neon lights
Now I’m lost in Eastland’s car park once again
I’m driving underground with the ghosts of my old friends
Rode the escalator the bottom of the line
I’m trying to figure out what became of all our lives
Lost in Eastland’s car park once again
I’m driving underground with the ghosts of my old friends
Rode the escalator the bottom of the earth
I’m trying to figure out what the hell it’s all worth
When you're lost inside of Eastland with the carpark blues again

I loved all the comments! Hey Sunset Stranger thanks for making this video, I've shared it with friends and family. My family has been in Ringwood since 1850 (circa). I was born in 1980, I have a lot of fond memories of going shopping at eastland with my Mother and Nanna, every couple of weeks. Every time as tot, we travelled the escalators I remember there was this bloody big bright red STOP button on the bottom of the escalators with a square clear perspex cover on a hinge over it. As a 3 year old every time we rode the escalators, the button was beckoning to me, it was irresistible, it was beautiful*. One week while my mother was hob knobbing with my nanna, I wandered off and I pressed that little sucker! and the whole damn thing came to a grinding holt! I kinda knew what would happen, I think I'd asked a few times about the button and was told to never press it, etc! Some maintenance guy turned up and talked with my mother and Nanna, who apologised for my behaviour.
Anyhow after that I was placed on a child's leash.
I only learned recently both my uncles were born in a some kind of maternity medical house that stood were eastland now stands, kinda weird. Who remembers the rotating lollie trays in Myer? maybe on the second floor? there were toffee's and chocolates in cellophane lolly twist wraps. My older brother and I would watch with wonder as the lollies went around and around, he set the example and pinched one first so I had to follow. It was a forgone conclusion, the lollies were glistening and at eye level, I think it was the fact they were moving that made them so enticing! Another time around the same age, I was on top top floor of Myer and they was a life size porcelain Lassie dog, I loved lassie on TV so I gave the dog a kiss on the nose and the whole bloody thing shattered and gave me the fright of my life. My mother offered to pay for the damage, but the service lady, just said, 'oh don't worry about it.'' It was then swept up and put in the trash.

I don't really know who the 'Hemmings' were? I suppose I didn't know everyone. They must have been rich to own a movie camera, especially with color film. Anyway, I use to like watching the donut machine cook the donuts. And I liked how Myer had a free computer chess game! I liked the central stage area of Eastland, who didn't climb up there or be on there for something. I also did the go-kart races in the carpark (obviously on Sundays when the shops were closed). And of course we went through 'parcel pickup' to pick up our groceries in brown paper bags.
Mind you, other than meeting all your friends on the streets, most of us kids played the pinnies at ... ah shit what was that upstairs game place called again near the station area? 21's? I can't remember. And also going to the bowling alley to play space-invaders.
Eastland was really best known for riding your bikes around it, on Saturday arvos and Sundays when everything was closed. Plus the huge carpark on a slope downwards.
Come to think of it, most guys were pretty tough back then, you didn't go home (from the streets) until really late at night. I mean why go home anyway, you kinda get sick of playing that old tennis Pong game hooked up to the TV, the streets were much better ;)
EDIT// Is it Lisa Hemming? Or am I getting mixed up with 10 million people I've met in my life.

Hi Kim, my mother shot the video with one of the first colour VHS video cameras, it was a huge brick of a thing, and no we weren’t rich, mum borrowed the camera from her work. I found the old VHS tape and digitised before it was lost for ever, and added my own soundtrack. Have a look here: vimeo.com/carlhemmings/ringwoodinthe80s
