I've noticed many of these old house wiring example the wire insulation is poor and some cases crumbling. My house a well. I've bought some shrink tubing and fitted it to the damaged wire area to help preserve the insulation which is left. We can now work with this wire with very little disturbance to the wire. The tubing needs heat to shrink it. Lighter or heat gun.

What kind of string do you buy to add to the pull chain? I have a light upstairs that I need to make the string attached to the chain longer. Any ideas?

Black wire goes to AC hot, which should also be black from the outlet. Since it’s AC it will work no matter which wire you connect to
