A visit to Beesands (Devon) 1938 - Seaton family archive

  • David Seaton's father filmed a family holiday in Devon during the summer of 1938, in particular Beesands and Hallsands on the South West Coast of the UK. Thanks to David for allowing us to host this footage, we think it is wonderful and are sure you will agree!

    Roger Stone (local history buff and general legend) wrote the following, which may be of interest to our fishing followers -
    "The Girl June was owned by Samuel Hatherley who went to sea with Arthur Hatherly in 1938.
    The first boat being hauled is the Smiling Morn owned Robert Lynn. I guess that would be him on the gunwale holding the boat upright. in 1938 he was going to sea with Uncle Pimp.
    DH59 is Britannia owned by William and Bert Crispin. Looks like Bert at the stern".

    Amazing old film. Thank you. So peaceful. How terrible that the World War 2 was forced on us soon after.

    I enjoyed that and now better understand why my nan had a leather sun tan and possibly why I tan so easy, in the genes ??
