Really nice having this craft documented for later generations to see , the craft is still practiced by a handfull of us and the pots used for fishing still, hopefully more will want to learn and take up this way of fishing again

David was a friend of my late fathers. Dad was a boat builder and did some work for him down in Wests bay many times. Wasn't it David who had the isle of Purbeck BD45 , built by Appledoors . by god the man could catch crab and lobster

Excellent story. As someone born just down the hill from you - but a number of years before you - it was a lovely reminder of times gone by.

When I was seventeen, a long time ago. I was with a couple of older fishermen shooting long lines for skate. I asked one of them , whats the marks for this bank Artie. He says to me , see that lighthouse back there? . Yes Artie, he says you see that field to the left of the light house?? . Yes Artie, well he says ive had many a good s**t in there . End of conversation. Happy days.

Fascinating insight into life decades ago. Life was pretty hard for many people, back in the first half of the 20th century. And even harder, earlier than that...

i have been fascinated by hallsands i visted when i was younger in 96 is so good to hear the stories of people that lived there
