I loved the look on Sam's face when she realized it was the hooker that survived. Most reactors don't ever catch that it was the hooker that survived and had a son who grew up to be a preacher. This was her legacy.
I really enjoyed they got it too. I go into reactions of this song dreading reactors don't get it and 90% don't. hats off to you guys for listening and not missing the story by interjecting.
I love how the preacher left the hooker with salvation which she passed on to her son who became a preacher and passed it on to his congregation its a great song of redemption. You don't know how you affect those around you.
When Randy Travis debuted we were in the height of the country rock phase and he gave us a taste of the classic country vocalists from decades past. Very refreshing.
That “It’s not what you take” line is my senior quote from high school, that’s how big of an impact he has on me and I tear up every time u see someone get to experience this for the first time
I am lucky enough to communicate with Mr. Travis. We message back n forth once every couple of months. Since his second stroke, he has been limited in public appearances. He is going out on tour with a group of Musicians playing his music. There is a video out entitled Precious Memories where Randy tells stories about the songs that made the Album Worship & Faith. He hadn't had a hit song in almost 6 yrs when Kim Williams brought him the song. It'd the first Gospel song ever to hit at #1 on the country charts. 1 thing I take away from the conversations I have with him is that he appreciates everyone who's a fan and is humbled by the admiration. His Storms of Life Album came along at a time when I needed to lean on something to just wake up for another day living. Music with a heart is how he put it, lol. Love your reaction
Took me a minute to comment as I'm currently wiping my tears. I cry every time I hear this song. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. "Forever and Ever, Amen" is a great song. Randy was ridiculously popular back in the day (I sure loved him) and "Forever and Ever, Amen" was probably played at every wedding in the 1980s.
The timbre of his rich baritone voice is unparalleled. My favorite Randy Travis songs are Reasons I Cheat; Promises; Take Another Swing At Me; This is Me; Look Heart, No Hands; Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man; That’s Where I Draw the Line; I Told You So; The Box; He Walked On Water; Three Wooden Crosses; Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart; It’s Just a Matter of Time; On the Other Hand; and Forever and Ever Amen.
I was in Nashville and went out with my mom and dad to a large country bar. My dad introduced me to Randy Travis. I had no clue how famous he was lol. He asked me to dance and of course I said yes. Later that night he took the stage and started singing. It floored me and I thought dang I just danced with someone famous and had no clue.
For those who are not religious yet, if you suddenly die without Faith and repenting, your soul is lost. Those three were ready, they went to heaven. The preacher found the lost soul and gave her the MAP to Salvation (The Bible: God's Word), which was put to good use: Saved her and her son. Perhaps God gave her a chance, as He does for all of us, to save ourselves by finding and having Faith! Great song!...., Amen!
This song left me sobbing the first time i heard it years ago. Every single time ive heard it including this time huge tears run down my face. Randy became popular when i was about 20 or so and i followed his whole career. He's also from NC where i live also.
Thank you for listening to the story well enough to understand it. So many reactors don't catch on to the "subtle" way he told the story. Randy is well known to throw a Gospel song on many of his albums. This song obviously has a hint Gospel behind it. Another story song that Randy did is He Walked On Water. Again, like this song, it's a Country song with a slice of Gospel, in the story.
Randy Travis brought back some old Country Music sounds in the 80s. Death is no stranger to Country Music since it is no stranger to people, although we pretend otherwise.
Randy Travis is historical. Not only in Country but in Gospel. His beautiful voice stolen from sever strokes. Huge rabbit hole. First visit, appreciate your respect & the research. Country never shy’s away from God. New Sub.
Randy got his start not far from where I live. I spent my early 20s hearing him play as the house band. Phenomenal voice! He has lots of big hits. He is more traditional country.
Thanks Guys! Now, I'm ugly crying. LOL I can never get past the 1st verse before the tears start. There is another song by Randy called "Raise Him Up." It's about a man who marries a woman with a child, and he vows to love him and to "raise him up." Great reactions guys. Love the channel!
Randy Travis is one of my favorites. Another of his best is On The Other Hand or really just anything he recorded. Really enjoy your reactions. Keep up the good work. 😉
@Bars & Barbells- Randy Travis is great and Three Wooden Crosses is one of my fav songs ever. Another great one of his you should react to is forever and ever Amen.
Yay first commenter! Hi Phil and sam.loving the content.I'm here for it.I'm happy to see you understood the message right away.many reactors have missed the point.its a story of redemption.
If you like redemptive songs, I have a suggestion for you. The song is Bed of Roses by the Statler Brothers. This is a song that speaks of the meaning of love for those who nobody sees as a proper love interest. The messaging is as powerful in its own way as this one is. I also would recommend that you do Chapel Hart singing their original song, "You Can Have Him, Jolene." Yes, it is an update of the Dolly Parton song,"Jolene."
Surprisingly didn't see any comments mentioning that Randy unfortunately had a stroke maybe 6-8 years ago that caused him to have some brain damage which effected his motor skills. And the breathing tubes messed up his vocal chords. Sadly he can't really sing anymore. Though they did bring him on stage with a bunch of country artists at one of the award shows years ago. All of the artists sang his hit song "Forever and Ever, Amen", and they had him sing a line from it. Which was bittersweet, knowing his condition but happy he was alive and finally back on stage again being appreciated.
Awesome reaction. I saw Randy many years ago when he was the opening act for Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn, and he was amazing then.... Some other great Randy Travis songs you may want to react to are: Digging Up Bones, He Walked On Water and Forever and Ever Amen.
Randy Travis is one of the most successful country music artists of all time, and a magnificent story teller! More than even that, he is a fine Christian gentleman whose songs center on God, country, family, moral values, and generally just down-home wholesomeness which is sadly lacking in today's music industry (and society) as a whole. Please react to his "Forever & Ever, Amen" and "Deeper Than the Holler." Very fine reaction from you both!
I can't love this enough. This is easily in my top 10 favorite songs. Yes, heart wrenching but very nice song. For sure touches on your heart stings. You both always have the most genuine reactions. Always looking forward to your next. May I request Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood "I told you so?"
try forever and ever amen by randy. He was a great storyteller. Enjoying him, you would also love George Straitt, who has sooo many songs that have been hits, number ones. try Amarillo By Morning or Cross My Heart. For a great country female try Bonnie Raitt. Can't Make You Love Me or my fave Let's give em something to talk about. Enjoy. Love your reactions. Getting into a really nice groove now. Congrats. BTW . Do more HOme Free. they are always great!
Glad you guys have discovered Randy Travis. He has so many great songs, you'll have to try really hard to find a clunker. Yeah, there probably aren't any. This one is one of my favorites, no doubt. I think his best was "HE WALKED ON WATER" th-cam.com/video/eCVw8Qjeg84/w-d-xo.html. So sweet, you'll want to experience it. Great-grandpas are special, just like great-grandmas.
Randy has an amazing Catalogue, he had a stroke and is no longer able to perform. “Forever and ever amen” “deeper than the holler” “I told you so” “on the other hand” all great songs by him.
My favorite Randy Travis song is I Thought He Walked on Water. My mamaw and papaw raised me and my brother, and if you listen to the song you will know why it is my favorite.

Love Randy’s voice. He is a great story teller. Check out Brooks and Dunn - I Believe. Another story song. And Jeannie C Riley - Harper Valley PTA. George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today. All great ones!
This was later in Randy's career when he started to do religious music. But to see why he is a Legend - - check out his earlier stuff. I'd start with On The Other Hand.
