Those charity shop records were an absolute steal at a quid. You can still find bargains but it’s definitely a case of right place and right time. That Yambu record sounds right up my street. Cheers John. 👍
Just shows you there is still some good stuff to be found in charity shops (if you’re lucky.) That Merrell Fankhauser is pretty amazing - I don’t think I’ve seen an original by him anywhere, never mind a charity shop! All the best for 2025 John 😊
@@baggyhi-fi8628 Hi John. I really enjoyed the Merrell Fankhausser record. As I mentioned, I really didn’t know what it was but had an idea what it sounded like from the cover. I’d love to know who owned it before it ended up at the charity shop. I’m sure there’s a story there. Cheers. John
What a find on the HMS Bounty. Not something you'd ever expect to find in a UK charity. Funnily enough I was at my pals house yesterday and he was playing it as he'd just bought one online last week. Annoyingly I've never seen Three The Hardway OST in the 30+ years of buying buying soul. Nice find on the Yambu as well. Great finds all round... cheers Nige
Cheers, Nige! It made a nice change to find some interesting stuff. The HMS Bounty was a nice surprise as I didn’t know anything about it. Not necessarily my kinda thing but I really enjoyed it 👍
Hey John, Great finds! I have that Barrabas album, so good. Merrell sounds great, need to look into that one. Yambu sounds good too. Also... thanks for the Soul & Funk Tag. It was one I loved doing in the midst of all the tags and threads. Cheers
Great stuff John. I pop into my local charity shop every time I'm passing and might find something half-decent 1 in a 100 visits. Only about a month until car boot season starts again...cheers Dale
I guess I’d buy that psych record if I found it thrifting. Your checklist of reasons, sounds like a proper vinyl collector convincing themselves to buy anything. 😅 That last one is interesting. Gonna look that one up. Cheers, John! ✌🏻
Man. That Three The Hard Way for one pound is insane. Makes me want to check out a Goodwill, but like you, I've become quite frustrated overall. One can only look at so many Polka, Andy WIlliams and Connie Francis LPs before the faith is lost. Nice pick on the Beautiful South. Had that one on CD back in the days, and was the last one I liked before I lost interest. Classic stuff, really, and their Debut is definitely worth a listen for the unfamiliar. Still loving the Soul & Funk tag, Brother! Has been the best Soul Education for quite some time! Cheers!🤘😁
Hey Craig! How’s it going? There have been some cracking tag responses. I’ve learnt loads too. There’re about 25 videos on the response playlist now and there haven’t been many records duplicated. I’ve just watched Chris Kibker’s response. He showed a couple of great soul 45’s that I’m now gonna have to try and find! Cheers. Remember, 2025 is the year of the Funk! Cheers. John
I know what you mean about James Last. I was at a market on Saturday morning going through some old records and there was a heap of his records. He's not my cup of tea. I like the Supremes record from 1971. I like the song Nathan Jones . They had another hit song titled Floy Joy too. Yambu sound cool , i haven't heard of them. Very disco sounding. Good finds.
I've got that Supremes album,a carboot find if memory serves right for a quid ??? Not sure if its got that original inner sleeve though 🤔🤔🤔 It was a great listen 👍👍👍 Good finds John and I've been pretty lucky myself on the last few occasions I've checked out local charity shops.....you gotta sift through a lot of crud though !!!
Decent records in charity shops are a rarity these days. You've got something really special with the Merrell Fankhauser & H.M.S. Bounty album. There's a CD box set of his stuff on (I think) one of the Cherry Red labels. I keep checking the price online to see if it comes down in price.
@@carltweed942 Hi Carl. I really enjoyed the Merrell Fankhauser album. I figured it might be of interest to people. As you’d probably guess, I don’t know too much about 60’s psyche so it’s nice to hear something a bit different. Cheers!
That Fankhauser track sounds a good one. The Impressions soundtrack is well worth a quid. Nice. I'm pretty much the same re charity shops. I always seem to be beaten to anything worthwhile by some smartphone-holding, middle-aged bloke in a dirty mac, who has nothing better to do with his day.

Those black ploitation albums are always fun to find. Jim Brown stared in so many of them. The nipple album sounded real cool
Some great finds there for a charity shop. You dropped on with that Impressions soundtrack , nice find.
Cheers, Mark!
W😮W ! Some awesome charity shop finds there John! 🙌👌👏
Cheers, King Kook!

I’m a fair weather carbooter, Dale. It’s normally the end of March before I venture out. Let’s hope 2025 throws up some gems!

I can always convince myself to buy a record, Jon. It doesn’t take much 😀

@@6inchpianist Year of the Funk indeed! Yeah, I'm gonna see about getting some kind of Summer Soul Tag 2025 happening. Stay tuned!
John, that Merrell Fankhauser album was a great find. I recently got one of his other projects, Mu, and a solo album. Thanks, Chris
Hi Chris. I hadn’t heard of Merrell Fankhauser before. Did he have some hits in the States?
No hits that I know of, unless they were regional (west coast of US).
Nice haul for a charity shop especially. That last album, Yambu is it? It sounds super funky.

The Yambu album sounds interesting. Will have to check it out. Btw, i assume a quid is £5 which is roughly $10 CAD.
@@Canadianbob60 Hi. A quid is £1. So, $2 CAD. Bargain! 👍
