  • I purchased a new 2020 Triumph Street Twin! This is Ninja's first impression of the Triumph Street Twin, its review and comparison with the 2020 Honda Rebel 500, including specifications for both motorcycles.
    Note: It is NOT a Vance & Hines exhaust, as I was told. Thank you @Jonathan Vogel for the research information! It is just a good sounding stock exhaust.

    Sal, thanks for the review! I'm scheduled to look at a local, used 2017 Street Twin 900 next week. Only a couple thousand miles on the clock. My only previous bike was a Honda V45 Magna I rode through the 1990s. It was good. Carbs, drum brake rear, no ABS, no traction control, no clutch assist. The Magna was powerful and raw. But it was 1980s modern, too. It had shaft drive. It was liquid cooled. Pretty high tech for the time. I commuted and took trips. The Magna was my only transportation for a while. Then I moved from California to place with harsh weather and quit riding. Now, we'll see if I like the Triumph for my return to riding. This time, will be summer riding only. Looking forward to trying something from this century. Should be different.

      Just be aware on the Triumph ST of the engine heat blowing past your leg. You feel it most in warm weather when at a standstill. Doesn’t bother me, but may bother some. Such a nimble and spunky bike!

    Sal, these videos are so very helpful. I love both bikes and was leaning towards the Rebel 1100, manual. Between the Street Twin and the Rebel 1100, which do you think you could ride longer at one time? Also, how do you like/dislike the windscreen on your Street Twin?

    • @mcSal
      @mcSal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I like the windscreen on the Street Twin (it's a Triumph accessory), but have to be careful when cleaning the bugs off of it. The black rubber around the windscreen edge just slides on and will push off when I'm cleaning it. I have both the Triumph ST and the Honda Rebel 1100 Manual (& the DCT). It would be very hard to choose between the two bikes you mention. I love them both (but not the DCT). It's all about how they make you feel. The ST has a much better sound, gets much better mileage, is far more nimble, looks and feels better made, has a great seat, is good for most tall and short riders with a seat height of 30" (760 mm) and foot pegs slightly to the rear, the headlight is awesome day or night, and the bike is iconic as a Bonneville. The ST also blows engine air back towards your legs, which doesn't bother me, but may bother some. The Rebel 1100 is a good solid bike that's fairly nimble, pegs just slightly forward of mid, gives a great ride, has cruise control, has a lower seat height of 27.5" (699 cm), looks more like a cruiser, has a smaller rider triangle so probably not great for taller riders, is expected to be super reliable and cheaper for maintenance, but you'll want to change out the seat for longer rides and the headlight sucks for night time riding. I changed my Rebel 1100 Manual seat out to a Corbin seat and it's Great! Both bikes have plenty of power and torque, and both have a slipper clutch & clutch assist. After riding both many, many times, I love them both for different reasons. I have bagged out both for longer trips and have windshields on both. I get compliments on both bikes when I'm out and about. It really comes down to personal preference. Hope that helps.

    That was fun. A bit of heat comes off--I noticed it compared to my scooter! But honestly, it isn't bad at all. Stand does take a little getting used to but that comes quick enough with muscle memory. I just love the Street Twin.

    Loved the video Sal! VERY detailed and in-depth of these two bikes. It is so funny, because I own the EXACT same two bikes (same years, and colors), so I took a very special interest in this video and agree 100% with everything you mentioned about both bikes. But you left out one nice feature on the Street Twin: Adjustable levers for both the clutch and the brake! 👍😂🏍

      @@mcSal I'd be interest to know your thoughts on the Rebel 1100 vs the Street Twin. I know the 1100 has more power, but (and you mentioned this in this video) I feel the Triumph is a much higher-quality bike. Also, these two bikes (1100 vs 900) run very close to the same price, so others might be torn into which one to buy. I considered both, to for me, I gave up 200cc's and some additional features (that I probably won't use) on the Rebel to go with the higher-quality (and plenty of enough power) Street Twin! And the sound that comes out of that thing! As soon as they fired up that Street Twin, I knew I was sold! I did a test ride at the dealership, and I almost just told the salesman to turn around about two blocks down the road because I was already sold on the ride, and the bike!

      @@jimsaddler942 I'm so glad you got your Street Twin! The ST truly is in a class of its own. It's just a great bike in so many respects. I need to ride the 1100 more to make a decision between the two, but it really comes down to preferences. I see a video on this in the future!

  • @Roberto-tm8fk
    @Roberto-tm8fk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am undecided which of the two bikes to buy, which are both good for my height .... I love the Triumph Street Twin but the only problem is that the engine seems to warm the legs too much, I live in an area where it is quite hot in the summer ...in your opinion it could be a big deal?

    • @mcSal
      @mcSal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both are great bikes. You can’t go wrong with either bike. When we take both out riding and hop on the freeway, the Triumph Street Twin leaves the Honda Rebel 500 in the dust without trying. The Rebel 500 does everything you ask, does a good, solid job and never complains. But after riding bikes with more horsepower, you realize the Rebel 500 has to work harder to do what comes natural to the bigger hp bikes. California has a lot of 100+ degrees Fahrenheit days throughout the summer. Yes, the ST blows hot air past your right leg in particular, but the only time we notice it is at a standstill. When moving, it just blends with the other hot air. I ask each rider that test rides all six of my bikes, if they could take just one bike home, which one would it be. Almost everyone chooses the Street Twin. It’s just that all around good.

  • @takfs78
    @takfs78 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How is the fuel consumption of the Street Twin vs the Rebel 500. I read on paper that the ST has better fuel economy than Rebel but find that unbelievable/amazing given that ST has double the cc of the Rebel. Or is that just on paper?

    • @mcSal
      @mcSal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Specs say the Rebel 500 (471 cc) gets 67 mpg / 28.5 kml, and the Street Twin (900 cc) gets 63.5 mpg / 27 kml. Per the display gauge, my Rebel 500 actually gets 52.0 mpg / 22.1 kml. My Triumph Street Twin actually gets 55.4 mpg / 23.5 kml. If I hadn't gone and looked for myself, I would have thought there was a mistake. But there is no mistake; my Street Twin gets better mileage than the Rebel 500!! Wow!

      Thank you. Yes, it absolutely rains in California! We usually get about 17” in this area per year, with most of it between November - April. I still get to ride throughout the winter. Just not on the really rainy or windy days. Some parts of California get less rain, and some parts double that rainfall. The rain helps keep California pretty. The yearly hay crop on the ranch only uses winter rain to grow. How much rain do you get?

Three main problems ,1 clutch cable rubs on harness {they did a recall for a modified bracket } did not help mine. 2 ,headlamp brackets have a ridge on the inside which rubs on the harness{ 2021 model has redesigned brackets funny that}. 3, the biggest issue wiring loom to short routed wrong at the factory ,causing strain on the harness at the headstock. Sounds like a ship straining at a mooring rope when you turn your steering. Clue for me was the left indicator stopped flashing if you turned the steering all the way to the right. The new wiring harness same part number as the old one just routed differently to give slight slack at the headstock. Triumphs biggest secret, would not buy another.

    ¡Qué casualidad! Compré la Rebel 500 en enero de 2018 y después la Street Twin en marzo de 2020. Me encantan ambas motos. Sin embargo, la Rebel 500 se me quedaba algo corta en autovía y carreteras de montaña. Creo que la Street Twin es una moto muy polivalente, cómoda y sencilla de conducir.
