    The only thing that this makes needs graphic-wise are better player animations. If you do that, this game would look better than Ori and the Blind Forest! Nice work, love the gameplay.

      Thanks for the feedback. Really glad you like it. :D Yes, the character does need plenty of improvements and effects. In it's current form it is mostly as a placeholder.

    The way the swaying animation shader is done probably uses world position in the calculation. This way bushes at different positions are offset in time, so they don't all play "at the same time". Parallax scripts update the position of your meshes. So the shaders might look like they're sped up, but they're not: when you change the mesh positions you change their "starting time", meaning they'll go to other "frames" in the animation (sine wave).
    The fix would be to not use the position, but upload (for example) your own "object index" (just a random number from C#) to the shader and use that to change the time offset instead of world position.

    Looks amazing! It would be a great idea to make moving parts (eg. Waterfall, windmill etc.) in the background and moving shadows like when you’re standung under a tree shade in the wind. This all would make it feel even more alive I would say. As with the real world there is always a ton of small independent movemements all around and full of detail. This is what the first animated 3D movies lacked and why they felt so empty even though everything was there.

    Perspective makes objects that are closer to the camera look as if they're moving faster than things that are far away. Parallax scripts fake this effect in orthographic view by actually moving those objects in world space. The wind shader likely uses world position for its effect, so moving objects around (which the parallax script does) changes the effect.

    artstyle looks really good, but can be time consuming to create.(create lots of assets in same session to get similar look) I would move the camera up so the character is positioned 1/3 from the bottom of the screen, but that is a choice of game design, whatever works for your game. squishy and stretch animation when jumping/in air looks odd, maybe tone down it little bit. Also is that making of videoclip from Ori and blind forest somewhere available?

    • @philip47478
      @philip47478  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your feedback. The camera indeed needs to be a bit higher. As for the player character, that's still a work in progress, the look, and animations. For the ORI video, unfortunately, the clip is rather short, but you can still check it out: "Ori and the Blind Forest scene construction"
      You'll find it on TH-cam

      @@philip47478 beautiful environment! i agree with Juke, the jump animation needs some work and i think the jump itself looks too floaty. it would probably be good to add more speed to the jump acceleration upwards and more gravity downward so that the character feels like it has more weight.

    The jumping feels well off (at least in the first clip). I don't understand why every game has to have a double jump, and since when bears cling to walls. Jumping looks like the character is gliding and is kinda too long like the gravity is very low in that, well, forest. The visual improvement is fantastic.

    • @philip47478
      @philip47478  ปีที่แล้ว

      The character does need plenty of improvements, in design as well in animation. Also the double jump is something that can greatly improve platforming sections and make them more fun by offering the player more control😁.

    this is a great video Philip! I'm curious - how do you make the enemy parts fly all over the place once you kill them? I would love to create a similar effect in my own game but I'm not sure how to?

    • @philip47478
      @philip47478  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not that difficult. Basically after the enemy dies, it spawns a particle system which contains some sprites and other particles like blood splatter. Hope this helps :D

  • @davidblais6829
    @davidblais6829 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking awesome! At 5:50 you have a certain light moving around, that gives a spackled effect. Is this a build in feature of Unity, or is it perhaps an alpha mask that provides the effect?

    • @philip47478
      @philip47478  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a sprite light, which is a simple PNG exported from Photoshop. Then I place it on the same layer with the sorting layer with the rocks. I don't know if it makes sense but i will make another tutorial video next week where I will go in more details on how i built the scene.

    The foliage animation speeding up issue happens because in the shader you use the position of a vertex as a factor in how fast the foliage moves, i have no idea why it wouldnt happen with 3d prespective tho
