You’re awesome! I’ve been practicing yoga for over a decade, so that may have helped, but I increased my breath hold by over a minute on the first try!
Thank you for this. 1.45 was my time. This is a big achievement for me. I was never able to hold my breath even for this long. I will keep on practicing to get to that 2 mins mark. 😀
You're such a good instructor. I just now, after watching this video, tried holding my breath following your insctructions, sitting in my chair in my office and I managed to do 2:15, which I never thought possible. There were some minor convulsions later on and my brain really wanted to trick me to breathe, but I just relaxed and it worked. Can't wait to try in the water together with equalization, which I up to this day didn't know existed, so I dove only about 4m max. Thank you.
Wow, this really works, made it to 2:08.. Felt panic several times, and i thought i was wimping out at just over a minute. Was surprised to see time was 2:08. Felt the contractions and it was awesome. Thank you

Just wanted to boost my confidence in holding my breath! So I didn’t panic! Think this will do me good! Thanks! Going to keep practicing!
Just last week when I started to look about freediving videos I tried to hold my breath and I did only 0:55s, after I've tried this method I managed to hold my breath for 2:05, I was really impressed. Great video, you just got a new subscriber + a thumbs to this video. I'm going to watch the 3 minutes video and see if I can make it
From 0:22 to 0:44, even if that's not a lot, still is double! Thanks a lot, I will start practising this more (I'll edit down here my best when some time passes)!!! ❤
I have been doing the Vim Hof method which makes your breath out and hold. I tried this method and was able to do 2 mins 15 seconds on the second try. So good. I would like to try freediving eventually.
Hi, I started doing breath hold recently, but with your technique I managed to increase my breath hold for the first time (more or less 30s), I could only hold it for about a minute. Now, with these tips, my goal is to hold for about 3m (for now); I've seen other videos, but I think yours is the most effective. :) Tks for share!
Wow! I when I saw this video pop up I was skeptical that it would help help me improve at all. I'm not a diver but I'm a long time trumpet player. Thanks to breathing exercises for that, I do pretty well holding my breath already. Before watching I did a test breath hold and got 2:23. Which is actually a bit better than my usual 2:15.. I watched the video, made a few adjustments to my technique based on your recommendations and tried again. 3:04! Holy crap! Geez. Never would have expected that. Great video!
Thank you for sharing✨ my attemp 3 days ago without any proper technique was 1:32 and also i struggled so much, but after watching your video today and apply your technique, i can hold my breath for 2:05 effortlessly. 💯
Omg! when I tried measuring for fun I was able to hold my breath for about 40 seconds, after trying to do what you said I was able to hold it for 1:36 minutes on the first try and I managed to stay really calm and only felt the urge to breathe in the last few seconds. Will do it a lot more! Thanks.
wow, thank you!! I was able to hold usually 1 minute. Now on first try the timer disrupted me at two minutes, and I was still ok, just after contractions. But i started breathing to reset, and not overdo it :D Definitely great instruction!
Super clear and effective tutorial and I love your friendly presentation style. As a yoga practitioner myself I'm also thrilled to find a video coming at it from that perspective.
Good job. Bit take it easy. Better practise 15min every day instead of a couple of hours. Breathholding is demanding for the central nervous system. Go steady ✌️
Hi, i just tried to hold my breath before and after watching your video. Before watching i was able to hold just for 30seconds and after your video, techniques about the last breath in through the mouth, keep calm while in urge to breath...I managed to hold for 1 minute without any exercises or anything. Just after your tips, thx a lot! I will keep practicing
I really cannot believe this, I started with my personal best at 1:30, and after 30min and literally 4 tries it went up to 2:41. After watching your "How to STATIC APNEA?", it went from 1:30 up to 2:10 in 3 tries (at the 3rd exercise in that video) and after this video and the breathing exercises it went all the way to 2:40. I really cannot believe that it's all in our heads. Great video! I'm gonna check your "hold your breath 3min video" now 😁🤞
Wow! Thanks a lot for the video! My record use to be 1 min 18 seconds and after the yogic breath I was able to hold my breath for 2 minutes and 1 sec on the first try. Amazing!
Most of the people in the comments actually hold their breath for good amounts of time and here i am with my personal best 1 minute and 33 seconds xD but i will keep trying! i want to make it happen maybe even to 3 minutes while being calm one day thank you for the video ♥
Wow this is pretty cool!! At the beginning of this video I timed myself with no technique(33 secs) I could hold my breath. As video progressed tried again and made it (42s) once I got to the relaxing technique I made it to 54 seconds without even thinking about it. When I looked at my watch then it got mental and only made it to 1:12. Getting better!!
Omg my personal record was 1 min and today it doubled thanku so much I can’t believe it 🤣 Watched hundreds of videos but still couldn’t cross the min. But in this video i did it thanku thanku thanku ur the best instructor
did it for the first time and managed 1:50 ! Wouldn't have expected that. Experienced exactly those spasms in the stomach area you mentioned at around 1:40.
Thank you for this breathing technique! I was surprised to discover that after my first practice I held my breath for 2min 40seconds and now only after two days of training I am at 3min 13 seconds. And it’s always been a dream of mine to freedive, am I born to do this or what? 😅
Hi I would like to say your method works great I was only able to hold my breath for 40 seconds but after 2 days of doing this usually in the morning I am able to go up to 1:04 I feel like if you give me 1 more week and I could get to 1:40 to 2:00 minutes if not longer!!!! Thank you so so so much. 😁🐟🌊
Thank you, sir! 🙏 Was able to do 1:57 on the first try after watching this. I wasn't looking at the stop watch if I had I'm sure I could have held for the last 3 seconds! On to the 3 minute vid!
I love fishing so much but one time we decided to snorkel in one of the beautiful reefs in Florida. What I saw underwater was beautiful and I wish I could free dive. I can only hold my breath for 15-20 seconds.😂 Thank you for this video. Will definitely practice this one.
This video is really great but you need to keep in mind that underwater things are diffrent and from 2 mins breathhold the time is going to turn into 1 min still. Keep up the great content🤙
Thank you, for the fun and engaging video Gert! Your instructions got me to relax and the mental part was my breakthrough to hold my breath for 2 minutes Yay! I enjoyed the natural High after the breath hold 😊
Thank you very much for teaching us this. It helps me very much to hold my breath more than a Minute and before your video it was 46sek . Thank you veryyy much 👍
In the past I don't know how long could I hold my breath for (was self-taught and did it for fun to swim underwater), but these days I find myself having electrical issues with my heart (also caused, I was told, by heartbreak), I was wondering if my, now, max 20-30 seconds before contractions happen is something I shouldn't push. Don't worry, I will not risk things or anything like it, I just like having more information on this topic, never had heart problems before, and while I personally am getting better, my heart feels like it's only getting worse, and am trying to do what I love these days, or learn to do it again, so that, in case, I can still have as much fun as I can. Thank you for sharing your knowledge by the way! I just recently found your channel, I would love to get into the sport if I will be able to! Never swam with all the gear (fins in particular) I see some people having, seems quite fun!
@@gertleroy I am doing everything I can on that, thank you for your reply! I asked as I was wondering if you had any "inside knowledge" of sorts on people with similar issues, as my doctors often don't have knowledge on many of my questions. Once more thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! Even if I might never get back to practicing myself, I love to see, particularly in this video's comments, that people are coming back to let you know how much they have improved, thank you once more for the work you do!
@@nanas1090 thank you and wishing you all the best. I think if you're having heart issues, you should assess the situation by doing light cardio and see how that goes. only when you feel confident you can start thinking about doing some. apnea, DRY that is, not in the water. I cannot answer your initial question with the info I have from you. it is YOU who has to understand the situation and make the right decisions. peace ✌️
@@gertleroy Thank you for all the information! I have not gone into water unsupervised since I started having issues, now I am keeping away just in case (particularly as my only "water option" is the sea, and the waves hitting me in the chest have been a problem in the past), so no issues with that, as for cardio, I have been working on finding something that works for me for a while now, these days light walks and light exercise, no running, jumping or overdoing it, is what I am allowed to do. Thank you once more for what you do and peace to you as well!
I usually last for one minute but after following the video I was able to hold my breath for 1:31s. It's insane. Edit: On the second try I was able to hold my breath for 2:03s. I feel so accomplished right now hahaha. I will watch the next video for the 3min now
Amazing advice!! Before I watched this video I timed a breath hold just sitting down and I got 50 seconds, but after doing everything you said I got 2 minutes on the first try.
You have to train the mind and train the body. I recommend competitive swimming because it trains the mind and the lungs. Even though I have been doing competitive swimming since I was 6 I still can only hold my breath for about 2:30 seconds
Update from the following day Gert. I got 2:31 yesterday trying your techniques and Today i smashed it out of the water with only two tries! First attempt was consistent with the first.. 2:29. Buuut the second was 3:10!! Yewwww hell happy with that 😁👌
@@gertleroy yes i learnt alot from your techniques! Definitely works 👈 So thank you for giving us all a little more courage 💪in a safe manner to achieve our goals bud 💙 I'll just keep slowly practising at my own pace, while trying to be patient & clear my mind. Which I've found to do quite easily 😁
I tried right before watching your video and I could hold my breathe for 1‘; after the video and following the techniques you explained I was at 2’40”. But since the beginning of the year I’m exercising with the Wim Hof Method, that probably helped also. Thank you for all the information you share on your channel!
3 min and 35 seconds at the first try after this video. In summer I usually do different apnea exercises at sea since when I was a child. One day I'd like to get also the freediving certification and practice all the year long if possible
Wow man, great thanks. I want to learn freediiving since a while, until now my longest brethhold was a little bit over 1 minute, but with your advices I got easliy up to 2 min 30 sec and I thik I can do better. Thanx
you must have watched the video very carefully to get to exactly 2 mins haha! well done. you might wanna watch my 3 minute video as well: th-cam.com/video/obBRZiRyIMY/w-d-xo.html
Fantastic info! I love free diving. It’s pretty relaxing to hold one’s breath and feel the pressure of the water, once you dive deeper and deeper. It’s a bit scary when you start a free fall. One thing I wouldn’t recommend beginners is not to hyperventilate before the dive.
Amazing 😮 I tried just before my normal way and managed 1m20s. Then I did exactly what you explained and was able to hold my breath for 3min straight on the first try.
thanks for the video it really helped a lot🙏🏿 my old record that i made months ago was 1.30 min and right after watching your video i managed to get 1.40 seconds by resting 1 minute between two attempts
I set the timmer to two minutes on my watch, it was dark so I couldn't see well. When I took my last breath I pressed the button to activate the timmer only thing is it was on the chronometer and I didn't realize. I held my breath waiting for the beep at two minutes. When I couldn't go any longer I took a breath and looked at my watch and that's when I realized I had started the chronometer insted of the timmer. 3'34 minutes had passed.
When I was a lot fitter, i could do about 50 meters under water swimming on one breath, statically it was around 2.5 minutes. Now ill be lucky over a minute, but will try this exercises and see what I get and do this for a few weeks each day and then see. But from what I see in the ocmments, this has helped alot as i love underwater, just so peaceful and relaxing, that I can clear my mind and listen to all the other sounds of the ocean.
great! you might wanna try the 5/5 breathe up (mild hyperventilation) th-cam.com/video/QA2GL_koNHM/w-d-xo.html

Great video, I managed 2:25 on my first attempt and I think I could do more, but I just wanted to try this technique. I have a really good VO2max, cause I do a lot of running, cycling and hiking so I think I could make 3 mins or more. But next time I will put a clip on my nose to be 100% sure that no air flows in or out of my nose. :D
Hi, after shorter but increasing duration warmups I managed 5min 1 second, tried 5 days later only managed 4minutes. My urge to breathe kicks in around 2 minutes 30 each time which always overrides my ability to relax lol
I did it I never thought clearing your mind was a big part I closed my eyes and made when I thought I was about to burst I opened them and saw I had 25 seconds left so I held and made it
Maybe im late but it was the same to me, I naturally closed my eyes and focused on holding it in, when I opened it was 1:45 and I was like "oh shit hold it a bit more" and got 2:06
Thank you so much for this video, really. I usually only lasted like 1:30 minutes and now all of a sudden i lasted 3:01, and i still can't believe it. This is such an accomplishment for me and I couldn't be more gratefull with your tips. Nonetheless, I finally managed to focus on my breathing, something that I usuallly struggle a lot with and is mainly the reason why I can't focus when breathing. Again, thank you so much, you are the best :´)
When i do the yogic breathing i clear my mind near instantly my hearing basically cuts out and i cam focus but i also get some weird feeling like someone is hitting my head with something really soft

Just last week when I started to look about freediving videos I tried to hold my breath and I did only 0:55s, after I've tried this method I managed to hold my breath for 2:05, I was really impressed.
Great video, you just got a new subscriber + a thumbs to this video.
I'm going to watch the 3 minutes video and see if I can make it
Great! Take it easy to with progress. Patienxe is the key 🗝️
From 0:22 to 0:44, even if that's not a lot, still is double! Thanks a lot, I will start practising this more (I'll edit down here my best when some time passes)!!! ❤
good 💥
I have been doing the Vim Hof method which makes your breath out and hold. I tried this method and was able to do 2 mins 15 seconds on the second try. So good. I would like to try freediving eventually.
Great. Wim hof hiwever is not used for Freediving. Only for dry practice.
Went from around 30 seconds all the way to a minute just in my first few tries. Thanks alot Gert!
Fantastic!
Hi, I started doing breath hold recently, but with your technique I managed to increase my breath hold for the first time (more or less 30s), I could only hold it for about a minute. Now, with these tips, my goal is to hold for about 3m (for now); I've seen other videos, but I think yours is the most effective. :) Tks for share!
please watch my video on the 3 minute breathhold as well. search for GERT LEROY 3MIN BREATHHOLD STEP BY STEP GUIDE
Wow, I couldn’t go beyond a minute before, after watching this video I got to 2:45! Thanks man, great instructions!
Glad it helped!🙏
Good job 💯💯
Thank you for sharing✨ my attemp 3 days ago without any proper technique was 1:32 and also i struggled so much, but after watching your video today and apply your technique, i can hold my breath for 2:05 effortlessly. 💯
Great job!
Muito obrigada pelas dicas!! Estrou treinando e já consegui prender a respiração por um minuto com ajuda das técnicas mostrandas no vídeo 😆.

It worked!!! 2:32 minutes! My best before your Video was around 1:20.
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Omg! when I tried measuring for fun I was able to hold my breath for about 40 seconds, after trying to do what you said I was able to hold it for 1:36 minutes on the first try and I managed to stay really calm and only felt the urge to breathe in the last few seconds. Will do it a lot more! Thanks.
great 🙏
Awesome. Im new to this and first attempt was 1min 55 seconds.....Thanks so much Gert. You are awesome
well done ✌️
@@gertleroy Day 2......2min 28 sec after watching your 3 minute breathe hold tutorial...pretty exciting stuff
@@antonymartin2522 haha. welcome to freediving ✌️✌️
wow, thank you!! I was able to hold usually 1 minute. Now on first try the timer disrupted me at two minutes, and I was still ok, just after contractions. But i started breathing to reset, and not overdo it :D
Definitely great instruction!
Glad it helped!
before this video my best was 1:52, and after these techniques it increased to 2:21! you are amazing :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Super clear and effective tutorial and I love your friendly presentation style. As a yoga practitioner myself I'm also thrilled to find a video coming at it from that perspective.
thanks. yoga and freediving are complimentory. we do a lot of stretches hat come from yoga 🙏
I started yesterday and got 50 seconds most times, I’ve been doing it for a couple of hours now and my best is 1:40, this video is great!
That's awesome! Yeah, keep on practising you will get better over time cheers
First time I got 1'33" and i tried one more time and I got 2'30". Thank you sooo much!
Great 👍👍
I got 1:13
And then 2:24

I really cannot believe this, I started with my personal best at 1:30, and after 30min and literally 4 tries it went up to 2:41. After watching your "How to STATIC APNEA?", it went from 1:30 up to 2:10 in 3 tries (at the 3rd exercise in that video) and after this video and the breathing exercises it went all the way to 2:40. I really cannot believe that it's all in our heads. Great video! I'm gonna check your "hold your breath 3min video" now 😁🤞
awesome! i love it !!
Wow! Thanks a lot for the video! My record use to be 1 min 18 seconds and after the yogic breath I was able to hold my breath for 2 minutes and 1 sec on the first try. Amazing!
Great 🙏🙏
Most of the people in the comments actually hold their breath for good amounts of time and here i am with my personal best 1 minute and 33 seconds xD
but i will keep trying! i want to make it happen maybe even to 3 minutes while being calm one day
thank you for the video ♥

@gertleroy by the way, thanks to your videos I managed to make a new personal record - 3 minutes and 7 seconds!
Thank you!

Very impressed, thx Gert. 1 minute was a struggle before, just followed your steps and made 2min28 on first try.
Nice work!
Getting better!!

did it for the first time and managed 1:50 ! Wouldn't have expected that. Experienced exactly those spasms in the stomach area you mentioned at around 1:40.
awesome! you've put the theory into practise !💪💪
Thank you for this breathing technique! I was surprised to discover that after my first practice I held my breath for 2min 40seconds and now only after two days of training I am at 3min 13 seconds. And it’s always been a dream of mine to freedive, am I born to do this or what? 😅
you are born to do this, but only after watching all my long format videos. you need to understand abiut tidal breathing
@@gertleroy totally, so much to learn and practice!
Keep it up!
Thank you, sir! 🙏 Was able to do 1:57 on the first try after watching this. I wasn't looking at the stop watch if I had I'm sure I could have held for the last 3 seconds! On to the 3 minute vid!
Excellent!👍👍
I love fishing so much but one time we decided to snorkel in one of the beautiful reefs in Florida. What I saw underwater was beautiful and I wish I could free dive. I can only hold my breath for 15-20 seconds.😂 Thank you for this video. Will definitely practice this one.
This video is really great but you need to keep in mind that underwater things are diffrent and from 2 mins breathhold the time is going to turn into 1 min still.
Keep up the great content🤙
and dint use rthe 3-6 method for breathup in the water. this is only for DRY breath holding!
Ok thx so before you go dive which method do you use pls?

Never swam with all the gear (fins in particular) I see some people having, seems quite fun!
sorry to hear about your condition. I'm not a doctor. you should consult with your doctor.

Amazing advice!! Before I watched this video I timed a breath hold just sitting down and I got 50 seconds, but after doing everything you said I got 2 minutes on the first try.
good!
You have to train the mind and train the body. I recommend competitive swimming because it trains the mind and the lungs. Even though I have been doing competitive swimming since I was 6 I still can only hold my breath for about 2:30 seconds

Fantastic info! I love free diving. It’s pretty relaxing to hold one’s breath and feel the pressure of the water, once you dive deeper and deeper. It’s a bit scary when you start a free fall. One thing I wouldn’t recommend beginners is not to hyperventilate before the dive.
absolutely. this video is not meant as a breathup for freediving. it's a way to get beginners going on a dry static breath hold
2:20 👌🏽 my O2 saturation went down to 89 % and pulse went up from 60 to 75 bpm without contractions

thanks for the video it really helped a lot🙏🏿 my old record that i made months ago was 1.30 min and right after watching your video i managed to get 1.40 seconds by resting 1 minute between two attempts

3'34 minutes had passed.
awesome ! that's what happens when you forget about time !
👍🏼
When I was a lot fitter, i could do about 50 meters under water swimming on one breath, statically it was around 2.5 minutes. Now ill be lucky over a minute, but will try this exercises and see what I get and do this for a few weeks each day and then see. But from what I see in the ocmments, this has helped alot as i love underwater, just so peaceful and relaxing, that I can clear my mind and listen to all the other sounds of the ocean.
I can hold my breath for 4:00 min.
I've just been practicing for like 1 1/2 months now and looking for more stuff to help me improve.
great! you might wanna try the 5/5 breathe up (mild hyperventilation) th-cam.com/video/QA2GL_koNHM/w-d-xo.html
please learn to hold the breath without nose clip. keep your throat closed. 🙏
