I still to this day don’t understand why people call Meg ugly when she's literally a mini version of Lois. Same hairstyle, same face shape. The only difference is that her hair is brown like her father's instead of orange like her mother's. Other than that, I don't see a problem with her looks or appearance. I feel like the Griffins pick on her because Meg stands out and has more potential than any of them.
I think some writers think calling a girl or woman who clearly isn't ugly, ugly. That it's "irony" or something. But it just comes off as mean and petty. Like, what, is Regina George the head of writing staff, or what?

That's the whole joke. When she takes off her glasses in the show she became attractive to everyone. The idea that she's a hideous monster is just a dumb joke cause the writers had a hard time writing female characters.
The fact that even Meg's voice actress, Mila Kunis, has said before, "Please, just give Meg something," which led to that one makeover episode with her, speaks volumes. Meg really deserves something in this show other than being the punching bag or being used to set up weird/creepy jokes or plots with her love interests or whatever the writers want to include in an episode. Heck, Lydia said it best: give her someone her own age. Or better yet, have Meg be the first character to move out of the Griffin household. She left high school and went to college over the course of the show, so it's not impossible.
That would be a good idea, however they're not doing that. Like in the episode where are Meg tells her family off she got stuck in a role as the punching bag, the scapegoat, the one always taking the blame. It was a terrible lesson to tell, but that's the shows excuse for keeping her around in that house.

My favorite love interest for meg was Jeff. I wish him and his family didn't dissappear. I liked how peter and Lois, while at first didn't accept that they were nudists, had Jeff over for game night while nude themselves as a way of making him feel more comfortable.

@JayAwkward I'd say Quagmire and Joe since they are people who are adults, are friends with Peter, and Peter doesn't treat his friends with respect. Quagmire only treats women like objects and always wanted to get with Meg since he can't get with Lois. Joe is a cop but also has a family, even if his wife is rather bored of him.
I recall in that episode that Louis didn’t do anything in order for Meg to not push her to continue the relationship to spite Louis. She said she didn’t want to do the same mistake her Dad did with her when it came to Peter.

I’d like to see an episode where Peter or Lois takes it too far and Meg calls CPS on them and we get to see how the kids and Brian deal with that situation. Maybe we can see them thrive for once since Meg is an adult and can technically get a job and be Stewie’s guardian while Chris is old enough to take care of himself! To bring things back to the status quo Brian would probably be the one who struggles the most and finds some way to get Peter and Lois back home…
The perfect episode for her to leave was when she stood up for herself episode. She could have left, never looked back and cut ties with her family. Why she is constantly the punching back is beyond me.

About Luke It might have been neat that after going to jail herself and coming out a thug, it's actually Luke who brings her back to normality. Her jail time coincidentally ended around the same time his did. And he knows what it's like on the inside and how it can change a person, but maybe having Meg visit him was what helped his rehabilitation.

After all, the show has kinda already established that Meg is a Russian sleeper agent during the tag ending of the Season 9 (or is it Season 10?) episode "Spies Closely Reminiscent To Us" (IDK if that's the correct title or not) when she overhears Brian and Stewie repeating her trigger phrase while discussing their adventure with Mayor West, Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd, causing her to get up and call her handler while speaking fluently in Russian, only for the handler to interrupt her mid-sentence to tell her to shut up. 😅
Two fun options: Another "Reset the timeline" Stewie and Brian episode would be fun. Maybe they spy on Meg for some reason and realize that that Prince was actually a cool guy and Meg would've been happy so they go back and stop themselves from saving her but maybe make it clear somehow they came to save her but stopped seeing her happy. And then seeing how the future pans out. Knowing the FG team though they'd probably end it with her losing the relationship some how - but if they didn't go back and "Fix it again" it'd be nice to use it as a "She lost him but now she's not a murderer" and then due to her not being with one or two of the failed/dead guys she could meet them as a better person and they become canon. OR Another great one, is first have her have a decent friendship - since they keep getting rid of her best friends and bringing them back and getting rid of them [and they seemed to have gotten rid of the blonde girl entirely, my guess is because she was the least 'funny looking' of all of them] - maybe have her befriend Roberta. Have Roberta see what a train wreck she is and try to help her - and when Meg fails Roberta can explain to her why she doesn't keep friends or boyfriends or whatever, but that it's also not HER [Roberta's] responsibility to fix Meg's problems for her just because they're friends. [This way we keep Roberta as a strong character and don't fully reduce her to fixing problems but bring her back]. And maybe if not the same episode, another one, Meg can come to realize that Roberta was the most decent friend she ever had and during their time together she was ACTUALLY happy - so she fixes herself and apologizes for using Roberta's friendship. Then they can have an actual, canon friendship like Meg's friendship with Bruce and this could lead to her still being quirky - but now better settled as a person and she can find love that way. Maybe even have an episode or two with some failed dating, but more of Meg strengthening her self worth. Like maybe Roberta's old boyfriend comes to Quahog and brings a friend and Meg tries to date the friend because "Well a guy like that makes Roberta happy ..." and maybe even because Roberta seems excited about double dates or something - but Meg can eventually break it off because he doesn't value her and she'd rather be alone and happy, than date someone who makes her wish she was alone. And then eventually lead into a partner that can be one of those "Totally canon, but doesn't exist when we want to tell a different story" kind of deals. Like Lois's brother, or any of Peter's siblings. Or heck like Jasper [?] - who we haven't seen visit Brian in ages. [His gay cousin - I think that's the right name lol]
i've always thought the friendship between meg and bruce was kinda sweet, it's nice that there's SOMEONE in her corner even if it didn't work out how she wanted. overall i think bruce is one of the most kindhearted and chill characters in the show so i'm always happy when a story focuses on him lol i also very vividly remember the episode where meg became a pop star and got taken advantage of by the SNL guy because it always made me so upset. :(

I remember when PhantomStrider suggested the idea of Meg moving out of the house to pursue progress with her own path in life with the characters she's been involved with on a personal level, as a kind of side-plot. I could see that working as a more serious spinoff that could bring back the genuine heart of early Family Guy that so many fans love and might want to see again, without the tonal whiplash of it happening in the main show. It would be more unique than the Cleveland Show or even the show's sister series American Dad! too, since it wouldn't center on a nuclear family household as a whole as its main cast, which was the main reason why so many people thought those two were too similar to Family Guy. It's been explicitly proven she's canonically able to do so, and they already don't use her in the show that much anymore, so why not?
Something that always bothered me about people calling Meg Ugly is that she just straight up looks like a younger Loise with different hair, and many people quite like her looks, so the "Ugly!" joke always just felt ick to me, clearly just bullying for the sake of bullying.
I always connected it to the fact that she is, beside Donna and Quagmire’s mom (I don’t recall anybody else), the only female characters who’s not drawn with a “hourglass-ish” body. Proof of what I’m saying is that, in the AU where Meg is hot, she’s just drawn with Lois’ silhouette and longer hair.

Male writers like hot women. So if there is a gender bias in American TV, it is having more hot women than there are in real life (more handsome men too, but not to the same degree). It's basically a trope that the average or fat guy gets a hot girlfriend.
I can't be the only person who finds it weird how a writing staff mostly comprised of middle-aged men have spent years gleefully making jokes about how sexually unappealing a teenage girl is. Like...cartoon or not, that's unsettling.

It’s so clear that because Meg never received actual love especially from the very people that are supposed to provide that for her, that she doesn’t know how to act those types of situations. So she can’t be in a proper relationship and if she does find that, it gets taken away from her as fast as she got it. It becomes unattainable.
Sadly, that is realistic. People who have been abused by their families don't always have a good frame of reference for what is and isn't a healthy relationship, so it can be hard to form and maintain them. Girl just needs a LOT of therapy.

To be honest I REALLY wish that Meg and Ivan had an actual, honest relationship, they could have had him fill a role similar to Jeff from American dad, and it could have created all sorts of wacky situations and dynamics between him and Peter, or him and Brian and Stewie (idk, I have a bit of a thing for Russian guys so maybe I'm a bit biased, lol!)

I actually relate so much to Meg. The bullied/not-fitting-in girl to boy crazy pipeline is real. The men give us the validation and acceptance we’ve been searching for our entire life, but never got from our peers or even our families.

Meg was/is my favorite character. Back in the day I used to just feel super bad for her and wanted to have -one- nice thing happen to her. which is why Seahorse Seashell Party hurt me so much because they finally let her give her family what for only to say "nah this is just how its gotta be". However, now she's begun having this "Agent of Chaos" kinda deal with her character in recent episodes. Specifically the one where she pretended to be dead, "robbing banks" with her "boyfriend" due to being high on mustard, and the bit where she offers Chris and Edible in the escape room. The fact she's getting to do more outside of being just the punching bag is so refreshing and I love it for her. #GG

As a person Meg is very related-able, feeling unwanted or unattractive but she’s very relatable with her parents multi-ethnic background (black but along time ago, mostly Irish, Jewish) and I look alot like Meg being english/Southern Italian.

I’d like to see an episode where Peter or Lois takes it too far and Meg calls CPS on them and we get to see how the kids and Brian deal with that situation. Maybe we can see them thrive for once since Meg is an adult and can technically get a job and be Stewie’s guardian while Chris is old enough to take care of himself! To bring things back to the status quo Brian would probably be the one who struggles the most and finds some way to get Peter and Lois back home…

It might have been neat that after going to jail herself and coming out a thug, it's actually Luke who brings her back to normality.
Her jail time coincidentally ended around the same time his did. And he knows what it's like on the inside and how it can change a person, but maybe having Meg visit him was what helped his rehabilitation.

Two fun options: Another "Reset the timeline" Stewie and Brian episode would be fun. Maybe they spy on Meg for some reason and realize that that Prince was actually a cool guy and Meg would've been happy so they go back and stop themselves from saving her but maybe make it clear somehow they came to save her but stopped seeing her happy. And then seeing how the future pans out. Knowing the FG team though they'd probably end it with her losing the relationship some how - but if they didn't go back and "Fix it again" it'd be nice to use it as a "She lost him but now she's not a murderer" and then due to her not being with one or two of the failed/dead guys she could meet them as a better person and they become canon.

Another great one, is first have her have a decent friendship - since they keep getting rid of her best friends and bringing them back and getting rid of them [and they seemed to have gotten rid of the blonde girl entirely, my guess is because she was the least 'funny looking' of all of them] - maybe have her befriend Roberta. Have Roberta see what a train wreck she is and try to help her - and when Meg fails Roberta can explain to her why she doesn't keep friends or boyfriends or whatever, but that it's also not HER [Roberta's] responsibility to fix Meg's problems for her just because they're friends. [This way we keep Roberta as a strong character and don't fully reduce her to fixing problems but bring her back]. And maybe if not the same episode, another one, Meg can come to realize that Roberta was the most decent friend she ever had and during their time together she was ACTUALLY happy - so she fixes herself and apologizes for using Roberta's friendship. Then they can have an actual, canon friendship like Meg's friendship with Bruce and this could lead to her still being quirky - but now better settled as a person and she can find love that way. Maybe even have an episode or two with some failed dating, but more of Meg strengthening her self worth. Like maybe Roberta's old boyfriend comes to Quahog and brings a friend and Meg tries to date the friend because "Well a guy like that makes Roberta happy ..." and maybe even because Roberta seems excited about double dates or something - but Meg can eventually break it off because he doesn't value her and she'd rather be alone and happy, than date someone who makes her wish she was alone. And then eventually lead into a partner that can be one of those "Totally canon, but doesn't exist when we want to tell a different story" kind of deals. Like Lois's brother, or any of Peter's siblings. Or heck like Jasper [?] - who we haven't seen visit Brian in ages. [His gay cousin - I think that's the right name lol]

i've always thought the friendship between meg and bruce was kinda sweet, it's nice that there's SOMEONE in her corner even if it didn't work out how she wanted. overall i think bruce is one of the most kindhearted and chill characters in the show so i'm always happy when a story focuses on him lol
i also very vividly remember the episode where meg became a pop star and got taken advantage of by the SNL guy because it always made me so upset. :(

I remember when PhantomStrider suggested the idea of Meg moving out of the house to pursue progress with her own path in life with the characters she's been involved with on a personal level, as a kind of side-plot. I could see that working as a more serious spinoff that could bring back the genuine heart of early Family Guy that so many fans love and might want to see again, without the tonal whiplash of it happening in the main show. It would be more unique than the Cleveland Show or even the show's sister series American Dad! too, since it wouldn't center on a nuclear family household as a whole as its main cast, which was the main reason why so many people thought those two were too similar to Family Guy.
It's been explicitly proven she's canonically able to do so, and they already don't use her in the show that much anymore, so why not?

Something that always bothered me about people calling Meg Ugly is that she just straight up looks like a younger Loise with different hair, and many people quite like her looks, so the "Ugly!" joke always just felt ick to me, clearly just bullying for the sake of bullying.
I always connected it to the fact that she is, beside Donna and Quagmire’s mom (I don’t recall anybody else), the only female characters who’s not drawn with a “hourglass-ish” body. Proof of what I’m saying is that, in the AU where Meg is hot, she’s just drawn with Lois’ silhouette and longer hair.

Meg is more attractive than any of the male Griffin family members. But that doesn't count in-universe because the show has male writers. Unreflective male writers.
Male writers like hot women. So if there is a gender bias in American TV, it is having more hot women than there are in real life (more handsome men too, but not to the same degree). It's basically a trope that the average or fat guy gets a hot girlfriend.
I can't be the only person who finds it weird how a writing staff mostly comprised of middle-aged men have spent years gleefully making jokes about how sexually unappealing a teenage girl is. Like...cartoon or not, that's unsettling.

My favourite is Joe Swanson out of the group he’s energetic, full of hobbies, and good at his job (for the most parts).

It’s so clear that because Meg never received actual love especially from the very people that are supposed to provide that for her, that she doesn’t know how to act those types of situations. So she can’t be in a proper relationship and if she does find that, it gets taken away from her as fast as she got it. It becomes unattainable.
Sadly, that is realistic. People who have been abused by their families don't always have a good frame of reference for what is and isn't a healthy relationship, so it can be hard to form and maintain them. Girl just needs a LOT of therapy.

I actually relate so much to Meg. The bullied/not-fitting-in girl to boy crazy pipeline is real. The men give us the validation and acceptance we’ve been searching for our entire life, but never got from our peers or even our families.

Meg was/is my favorite character. Back in the day I used to just feel super bad for her and wanted to have -one- nice thing happen to her. which is why Seahorse Seashell Party hurt me so much because they finally let her give her family what for only to say "nah this is just how its gotta be". However, now she's begun having this "Agent of Chaos" kinda deal with her character in recent episodes. Specifically the one where she pretended to be dead, "robbing banks" with her "boyfriend" due to being high on mustard, and the bit where she offers Chris and Edible in the escape room. The fact she's getting to do more outside of being just the punching bag is so refreshing and I love it for her. #GG

As a person Meg is very related-able, feeling unwanted or unattractive but she’s very relatable with her parents multi-ethnic background (black but along time ago, mostly Irish, Jewish) and I look alot like Meg being english/Southern Italian.
