    WATCH IN HD! Catch and Cook primitive Kiwi style. In this video I go exploring some remote coastline in New Zealand Freediving and spearfishing off my Kayak searching for food. I spear Snapper, Butterfish, and Blue Mao Mao and cook the Snapper up on the
    beach on an open fire! Living from the Ocean and cooking primitive style!
    I also search for Yellowtail Kingfish and Crayfish, but the weather turns nasty and I need to head back to shore.

    As fish tend to tear apart, I like to cook it on a rock partially on the fire, some people put some oil on the stone first, but you don't need it, I may lose the skin facing the rock, but that's ok. Awesome videos, as I like kayaking and a campfire, this is my favorite. Thanks brother.

    Another cool vid Ollie. An idea for another catch and cook - scale the fish, then wrap it in 6 layers of wet newspaper. Chuck it right into the red hot coals (put some on top of it too). Give it about 10mins and you'll have a really nice moist cooked fish. Only the outer couple of layers of paper actually burns away.

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit

    Nice bro - not easy diving from a kayak. They can be useful as a tow along in the calmer water but yeah when it gets bouncy near rocks they can pushed around pretty easy. I’ve had a few moments when the gear is sliding off the yak bro so you’re not alone there. It is also much more taxing than a normal boat based dive so energy is lost so much faster. It is hard work man so rewarding when it comes together but yeah very challenging especially when the wind and current start pumping 😅

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah man fully agree. Was quite na adventure! Pretty sure I've got it locked in for my next dive though! Sometimes need situations like these to learn and change the techniques /setup! Love the kayak though for a diving platform!

    Keep up the great vids, respect for the effort you put in and the results. The current on the outside of that last reef has caught me out before. Have you got a light & flag for your Kayak? RailBlaza do a visibility kit that snaps on/off. I've come close to hitting kayaks in low light and in rough seas before as they're really hard to see so low in the water and don't show up on radar.

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit

      Hey bro, cheers. I've got a flag, (should be using). Will look into getting a light, sounds a great idea. Have a few things on the shopping list to add to the yak before next mission. Yeah current was hectic. Couldn't even dive on it, full moon not helping..was intense current.

    Bro leash the paddle on always and keep the Yak away from the rocks at all times. You probably wouldn't have made it back without a paddle and you're only one poor decision from there to really be in a world of shit. I do a fair bit of reckless shit in the water but don't leave things up to luck.

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your concern, but it was swimable back..just a long way! And kind of hard to keep the kayak away from the rocks when diving next to them in a spot like that.. Would rather have the kayak connected to me vs anchored away from rocks with risk of it getting dragged off in current..
