Catch and Cook CRAYFISH - (Freediving and beach fire)

  • Catch and cook Crayfish on the beach. We go on a Kayak Adventure on a new stretch of coastline in New Zealand loaded up with spearguns and gear to catch a feed from the ocean. We encounter dirty water, find some Crayfish (Lobster) and cook one up on an open fire on a beach on a remote rugged coastline. We go beach combing and find all sorts of things! NZ gathering!

Currently TH-cam is decreasing video quality greatly due to their servers not being able to handle the huge overload on the system! ONE LAST THING- If you know the spot then no need to post the place name in the comments! I will delete your comment to respect the local divers in the area. Cheers

      @@olliecraig-primalpursuit Gosh looked so familiar i use to drive up there often late 70's mid 80's early wee hours on a sunday i would take off, only building was one concrete toliet and other end of beach was a commercial fisherman, hardly any houses..so built up now. I walked down beach and use to swim off first point...even back then it was never huge numbers of crays...but i could always grab 2 or 3 to bring back. Nice spot if going solo as i often did. I found ffter a good northerly following by a southwesterly which slowed down you could get some real nice Visabilty provided it hadnt rain for a bit.

      @@EthanYeo1 It's true, If you blackout there is no one there, that's why I never push myself even close to my limits, carry extra knives etc etc. Most divers are never actually there when diving with buddies to watch them go up and down EVERY time they dive down anyway. It's a risk, but I feel I minimise the risk as much as I can. If it doesn't feel right for you then don't do it. Get trained up doing a course by a reputable company and know how to read your body signals etc.

    How do you keep your kayak close by when diving? Doesn't seem like you use an anchor. Also, looking at getting a Viking 400 or 440 for fishing and diving, does the front storage really help? Trying to decide if that is worth the extra 40cm

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Cameron, I usually just keep connected to my gun, especially if diving quite far away form base for safety reasons, otherwise just anchor in an area I'm working/or tie off to some bull kelp. I would highly reccommend the 440 over 400 for diving off, the storage up front is very useful. The extra 40cm will help a lot over long distances for sea chop and speed.

    Brilliant Ollie, love you channel and dive footage. Does having a Samba ever bother you when you are alone?

      Hey Jeff thanks mate. No I never think about black out or samba at all when I'm diving alone. I'm done plenty of homework/course/years of diving experience. I never dive deep when solo, never come even close to pushing to my limit, pretty much rarely diving past 10m really( as in most places in NZ you don't really need to! If I'm feeling tired etc I juts call it a day. I may not seem to take it to seriously in my vids but I do think about my safety and make the right calls if I'm not feeling up to it etc.
