    I am so glad you went to Portugal, their cuisine is always over-shadowed by their larger neighbours, but it is so distinct and so incredibly flavoursome; it marries humble cooking with proud delivery and unique flavour combinations, it's wonderful. More so than Spain they have used the influences from their travels in the age of exploration to make their national dishes what could arguably be termed the worlds very first fusion cuisine. That's an accolade in itself. If you've never tried Portuguese cuisine folks, find out where you can do so, go treat yourself.

      Agree Portuguese food is far more vibrant than most found in Spain...the spicing etc just is so hard to find in Spain partly due to the rejection of anything vaguely spicey by most Spanish...it means a lot of dishes are bland...in Portugal the use of chillies/spice really elevates those delicious ingredients they use....

    I love Portuguese food a lot. I think the most interesting cuisine in Europe, since they mixed spices found during their discoveries (cinnamon, cilantro, et cetera) and the local ones. Portuguese people have sweet teeth.

    • @grandadan
      @grandadan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just some clarifications: The Portuguese found indeed many new things, but those you´re talking about were already in all Europe prior to the discovery of a maritime rute to India. So It was nothing new, we simply wanted to control that market and we did it good. Right?

    Hello @Mark Wiens!!
    That was not folk music. Those persons are stundents of university that apply to a music group called "Tuna" (yes like the fish). They sing original musics that they create and try to raise money to get new instruments and other things to. Their clothes are called "Traje Académico". Some people believe that J K Rowling got inspired by that to write "Harry Potter".
    Thank you so much to showcase some of the beauties of our country, I LOVE IT!!

    Lisboa and Coimbra are two of my favorite cities in Portugal. Add to that Évora and Cintra and you got four exciting cities. To eat real Portuguese food choose a place where there is a lot of working people eating. Can’t beat grilled sardines on a stick, over charcoal sprinkled with coarse sea salt, lemon juice and good Portuguese olive oil. The liquid crack they serve at the “Café A Brasileira” is tops and what a good expresso should taste like (reasonably priced too). The grilled octopus with olive oil and lemon juice, paired with a cold beer in the summer is superb. It has a great smoky flavor from the hardwood charcoal. When in Lisboa, wear comfortable shoes because you can mostly feel the pulse of the city by walking.
    By the way, the music you used on the background is not Portuguese music, but music from the northeast of Brazil.

    Yes, indeed all chilies come from America, and the Portuguese took them to Asia. Strangely enough the Spanish don't seem to like spicy food as much as the Portuguese. Hadn't it been for the earthquake of 1755, Lisbon would today be as rich in cultural landmarks as Paris or Rome. And even so I love it!

    After seeing all these ceviche from all around the world, that you showed us thank you for that, I have to declare Peru the uncontested master. The choice of ingredients and the way and care given to all of them during the preparation in Peru cannot be compared and for a fraction of the price making it extremely underrated and underrepresented. See, before all you've given us, you GastrOrgasmiCosmical man (I had an inner fight, comical, cosmic, had have an inner vote and it was a tie so), I thought ceviche was just fish cubes and some vinegar or citrus with a few herbs; Peru changed all that the way one could fish a fish and eat it feral style but a sushi chef will represent the ultimate art of "raw" fish feasting one can never unknow once experienced.

      The whole concept of the food chain Nando's is based on Portuguese roast chicken! The founder of Nando's fell in love with Portuguese cuisine, and especially the roast chicken! The reason why we don't have Nando's in Portugal is because, well, we dont need it! This is because roast chicken can be found basically anywhere in the country!

      Goan food is diverse. The food is mainly the Konkan type food which is similar to Coastal Maharashtra and then there's Portuguese type food. Portuguese also conquered Coastal areas of Maharashtra like Vasai, parts of Alibaug, Diu and Daman, Mangalore and some parts of Kerala too..

    I adore Lisbon. It was amazing. I'm so happy you liked it too. You can actually see the building where I stayed in when I was there at 13:49. I thought that was cool. I chose to do AirBnB instead of a hotel but am so craving going back now. Next time you go, try making it in June. You'll get to see the Fado Festival. Fado is kind of Portugese country music but it's a huge thing over there. And the Alfama area has people who open up their homes and turn them into mini restaurants just for the festival. It's awesome. I think you'd really enjoy it.

    Without the portuguese there would maybe be no chilies, tempura, cocunut milk and lots of other things in asia. There influnce on the whole world is quite amazing.

      Not sure about the Food but Culture wise yes there is a strong Portuguese influence in India in Goa, Diu Daman, Kerala etc. Most of the forts, ancient churches were built by the Portuguese and even most of the Indian Christians in these areas have Portuguese names
