Right On Bill. My First Car -- a 72 Olds 98 ! Metallic Green Coupe with Black interior, 455 laying down the one-Leggers ! GM Detroit Steel. Oh and Caps, Not Wires !
My dad was a total Oldsmobile guy. His fav Oldsmobile was a special order chocolate brown 88 with all power, wonder bar on stereo and a 455. That was the first car we had that had full power. It was a great one. I personally always loved the various 98 Regency Brougham body styles.
I'm a pontiac guy but you're trying to turn me into an Oldsmobile guy as I get older! love the detailed vids, especially since you end up with so many unmolested, unmodified cars
Olds/Pontiac I think are so close in what they were putting out. Except the Trans Am of course! Could you imagine if Olds have a version of the Trans Am/Camaro?? You could have simply called it, Rocket.
I've had to fix a GM power antennae's before. There is a internal flexible plastic "whip" inside the mast that breaks apart with age, the motor will run, but plastic whip is broken. It can be replaced and it isn't a bad job to do. There are replacement masts available. The motor never fails. I am sure you know all about it. Have to drop the inside wheel and the it is easy to get to the power antenna to remove the whole assembly. You should do a video on the repair - it would be neat to see and document - get some more eyes on your channel. Such a awesome 98!
@@dave1956 My experience the motors were robust but the plastic flex whip would degrade and or break due to constant flexing. Seems like it did improve in time - probably better plastic. My 1991 Olds 98 power antennae still works - never broke - car owned in family since new, however, a few of my cars from the 1970's broke after around 6 -7 years from brand new.
@@christianbugatticg Back when I was working in the used car business it was “standard equipment” for these things not to work. Later on, in the 80’s when I started in the body shop we specialized in Toyota’s. Rarely did I see a power antenna that didn’t work.
Those big blocks in full size Fords and GM cars could really do some serious burnouts. You really couldn't do it with the small block V-8s but those 460s and 455s had awesome torque.
Love those Oldsmobile’s! I had the 76’ Regency Coupe with same color interior as this one. Driving around Vegas in that baby in early 80’s. Gas was around $1 a gallon then.
Amazing thing about those 455 olds is where they were torque monsters. There's a reason why when GMC was designing their now famous motorhome. (Think Barbie camper and stripes mobile) that they chose the 455 olds and turbo 400 transmission simply for the torque.
I didn't know that were a Oldsmobile man. My grandfather my father and myself are Oldsmobile guys. I never had a bad one. When I got my license my father gave me his 84 98 coupe. Even with a 17 yr old driver an 150,000 mi she is still going strong. Recently I picked up a 1978 Delta Royale from the original owner with only 33,000 mi. Everything down to the clock works. It was never driven in any bad weather. Even the drivers seat looks new. I think you would love it. Mind you I have only my cheap O Oldsmobile hubcaps on her no spokes on this one. LOL
I consider myself a purest. I like to keep then like they can off the assembly line. However the one modification I made to the car was I put true duel exhaust I got rid of that huge catalytic converter. It still has factory mufflers and the factory resonators at the end of the exhaust. So it pretty quiet. But I would highly recommend doing it, must have given the car a go 25hp.
My shop teacher in HS had a brand new 73' 98, identical body as this one. I tried to get my father to trade his 69' 98 in for one of these but he was perfectly happy with what he had.
All the power you will ever need. As said below the antenna is fixable if you want everything in working order. A great car just waiting for a new owner.

They may!

It is only a piece of cheap plastic with groves that makes the antenna go up and down.
