I love that you really make this approachable instead of gatekeeping or making it too hard like it feels like a lot of people tend to do. Really awesome!
Hi, I've never had any confidence with rigging. I've modelled in Maya, sculpted in Zbrush and textured in substance painter with ease. Rigging just scared me, as I just found it complicated to approach it, instead, I have many times got the model auto rigged. I've tried other paid tutorials, but they were either over-explained or very badly explained, honestly, they didn't make sense and it never clicked. With your teaching process, it is fantastic and with every step of the way you're explaining, making it clearly understandable and making sense. High praise and with hats off to you and thank you. People need great teachers like you. -That is all. :)
I don't usually comment but you are a total lifesaver. I've been taking 3d modelling classes and it's been such a struggle. Everything was too confusing and complicated until I stumbled on your channel. I literally binge most of your videos! Thank you for this amazing tutorial.
i love the way you explain, an how you get into detail of good practices without making it boring, as game dev who already work in the industry just trying to learn other fields of the 3d production i love it as that kind of knowledge comes really in handy when doing more complex stuff later on.
I've been putting off learning rigging but now is the time. Your way of teaching is helpful and good to understand. I only wish there was more tutorials by you for rigging
Oh my god you’re the nicest tutor out there!! I’ve been able to revisit a lot of technicalities in maya because I couldn’t retain whatever I learnt in one of my classes. A big thanks to you!! Keep these coming!!
I am going to take 30 day challange of rigging but it seems like i will learn much more in a week thanks to your channel i wish you made tutorials on zbrush because we lack the tutor like you . Thank you so much for everything God bless you much more.we love you
This was absolutely fantastic. I am working in VFX for a year now but I never got such a nice and simple Rigging explanation. Hope you will make part 2.
You make things extremely easy. It's very easy to understand, digest, and absorb. I did it after my first watch. I wish you posted every feature of Maya on TH-cam. Thank you 😊 💓.
I love your toturial. every time I came here to learn a specific skill. but you also give us an additional tricks and hacks to improve our skills. All respect
I can't tell you how much I love your channel! You are so clear and easy to follow. My lazy teacher is always away and when he is in to teach us he is useless. I'm so glad that I can come to you to learn how to use Maya
Great tutorial Monica! I love the way you have made the small graphical touches with the "like, leave a comment, subscribe" messages that occur throughout the video. Very creative way of bringing it to attention and so much better than just saying "Remember to like, subscribe and comment" like everyone else ;)
Hi, Loved this tutorial. Can you happen to share how to create a flower rig, where the stamin of the flower reaches at specific point, before the flower petals open ?
Thank you for your kind comment Jack! I"m glad you liked it. Here is another one about rigging a leg if you are interested. :) th-cam.com/video/r0aFUjBb-Yo/w-d-xo.html
nice ! this helped me a lot today (but as an animator I have to say it... LET US SCALE ! WE LOVE TO SCALE !) jokes appart, scaling in animation is quite usefull xd. Good stuff anyway thank you !
Wow, Maya has a complex way of doing things that should be so quick and easy. Make joint, make controller, snap this snap that etc. Rigging a full human character would take three times longer than necessary. Good presentation though. I understood what you were explaining but couldn't help but think it's a little more process heavy than it should be
Great!! It was easy to understand and u were so clear..I would like to see more videos related to the same topic and also of the deformers.. Great going..subscribing Ur chnl💟
Thank you for the comment and support, Id! I'm currently launching a tutorial on basic character rigging, here: th-cam.com/play/PLbxLlP-Vyt-_c3iKFxEFAurJa9KBDHVJB.html Hope that helps! :)
12:43 I’ve done everything you said, parented all the joint using the constraints but the controllers are still acting as if they are separate from the joint and aren’t moving the model at all
was super intimidated to do a rig for a model I made because I have no former experience, but this one video taught me the theory of it and explained to me why we do certain things, and why not. super clear! thank you for a wonderful video...I feel like I'd be able to apply this a lot of places and set it up well. Also did not know about find and replace (will be using it a lot in the future hahaha)
Hi Monica, thank you so much for all your great tutorials! By the way how did you do the overlapping part of this animation? When I went to keyframe frame one a second time to bend the tube to the opposite side, I wasn't able to middle mouse drag the key from 1 to 50 like you did. Anyway, thank you for sharing so much with us! Just subscribed! ☺🙏
Hahaaa, thank you. In a final major project and got the technical job despite…. Knowing everything BUT rigging(yes I can Python/MEL tools) and was never taught it due to the trade of with learning Unreal got me) this at least got my feet under me
I highly recommend the "art of rigging' series of books. Its also handy to use a split hierarcly for your controls, this lets you stick secondary offsets into a layer between the control and null for cool stuff like overlapping auto motion, inputs from anothrer IK, expressions ,etc , lots of fun stuff. Also the downstream hierarchy doesnt light up and make things hard to see. eg. group ( offsets here, parented under null from another control ) -curve ctrl object ( this has curve.translate, rotate, scale piped into the null.translate, rotate, scale ) -null ( where you parent other stuff )
Thank you for sharing your feedback @edgibborim1948. Are you a 3D Rigger? Do you know how the instructor here keyframed the overlapping? I was able to animate this, but not to overlap it :( I just ordered the book series you recommended, they look awesome even though they may be older books! Thank you again! 🙏😊
jesus how did my lecturer make this so complicated, thank you so much, you're amazing
I'm trying to make it as simple as possible. Glad you liked it!

When you say they can't move them or touch it, it feels like parent control, very good tutorial
Such a brilliant trick with the overlapping animation!
Thank you so much! I was so tired of animating the joints itself. Adding controls makes it much easier and cleaner to see.
what a very helpful tutorial specially for all who just starts doing this, Thank you so much for this video GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS.
