My daughter has an iPad with 32 gigs. Storage was full. We deleted almost everything, yet the “other” was filled with over 20 gigs. Did extensive research on this issue. Had to restore it. Apple is absolutely pathetic for not addressing this issues. They constantly create superfluous nonsensical additions in iOS updates, yet cannot tackle a serious problem. 😶
Straight up FACTS they always make all these useless products and they can’t even fix one problem.
I think its on purpose that they dont allow to remove temp files, really greedy and stupid.
They just want you to buy another product from them. But I think the only way to truly erase the "Other Storage" is to erase your phone or tablet over and over again! I'm doing it and the storage is getting lessened little bits at a time like 100-200 MB, but I don't know if it'll work entirely, I'm still trying it out!
People are always saying ios is better than android but in reality android is much better at reducing gigabyte usage and much better with less lagg
Tho in my opinion neither is better just comes down to preference and what needs you have cus they also have their own separate uses
I just deleted 15gb worth of videos and photos, only to gain like 6gb storage space. I was suspecting this has been happening for ages since I wasnt able to have so many apps anymore, so I took screenshots before deleting and found out how the space is not increasing accirding to the 15gb I deleted. This is pathetic. But tbh my old samsung android tablet did the exact dame thing, I had to factory reset all the time to actually gain back the storage space.
I deleted lots of home videos, apps etc and still had that message pop up… then I found out apparently the iphone/ipad saves a backup to restore or somehting like that, but when you turn your phone off and back on again, you’ll see the available storage room go up, cause it has been deleted!
@AndrexZxms turn off and restart your phone after deleting!
After deleting, not just from my camera roll, but also from the trash bin in the photos app, I checked the storage indicator bar in settings - general - iphone storage, but nothing changed… only after my battery had died and It was charging and I checked the storage again, did I see a change in amount of gb left, so restarting always work on my phone to actually clear storage!
It worked! My ipad had used 28.9 GB. Now i restarted it and it has just 16.5 GB used! Thanks mate!

Another thing that might help is syncing it to iTunes just in case there is corrupted data that a sync can fix. The problem with restoring is that sometimes that other stuff gets backed up too, so once you restore from back up other might be the same. The nuclear option is to restore and set up as new which sucks I know.

Alright I had a let’s say…. About 2-3 year old iPad and it was pretty good! Until I reset it one time just because I would ALWAYS do that when I was done with it, I charged it, and then well….. it wouldn’t turn on again and I hadn’t backed up any of the stuff I had on there and now it’s all gone…😕

Another way of freeing up some storage is going into the “photos” app, (the actual app) and deleting some photos, but after doing that apple will keep those photos for another 30 days, go into recently deleted, select all of the photos, and delete them! It fully deletes all of the data of the photos and it has saved me a ton of space

Pretty sad that you need to reinstall an iPhone to remove cache. Why can't they make a cleaning app.
They make "cleaning" apps... but they've gotta nasty rep. Plus companies cant make something that remotely deletes on your phone. Has something to do with contractual agreements. (Take me with a salt shaker for the last part)

Which people do but it causes the "other" cache in the data to fill the drive and still causes the thing do the screen spin marry-go-round and crash due to lack of space. I never said that backing up and reseting the thing wouldn't fix it mainly due to say at the end the guy says the "nothing short of a factory reset" wipes the cache clean :D
But you are so right on the icloud storage cause go to an apple store and they try like hell to get you to buy it. I said things that made customers leave that store that day cause they caught on. I'm not allowed there no more. Wonder why -_-...
I’ve always been frustrated by this. I upgraded from 32gb to 64gb and my other almost doubled, very frustrating
From my experience, the deleted files and free up space didn’t added up, it may added up one day, but a week later suddenly there’s crazy amount of free space been discovered by the iPad itself!
So buying more storage didn’t even help?

I have 64gb and 4apps, this angers me so much.
And I have 8 non apple preinstalled apps.
I delete so many photos in my camera roll but it still says I have no storage. The same thing happened to my best friend, at this point she has 1 photo and like 2 apps. I just bought 200 GB worth of iPad storage, and it still says my storage is full. But the thing is my categories is only photos and apps. And I only have like 40 photos. My mom has more than 1000 photos and her storage is not full. Explain!!

Android is miles ahead in almost everything, not just storage management.
This was happening on my wifes macbook. No pop up but I couldnt update the dang thing. I ended up reloading everything fresh and brought back in the files via icloud. It was frustrating but it gets it done. Thanks for the video as always Andrew!

also, another tip. You can delete all your unwanted files, not that big of a change, but really helped!

My iPhone memory was full then I did a back up & restore via iTunes a few days ago & that literally freed up 20GB.
Actually that's the only way to clear up other files (I almost tried everything on the internet)

I seem to recall reading a while back that if there is a really big "other" category that doesn't go away, it could be from an iOS update that didn't install correctly (or at all).

@@Don-mf4kq it works sometimes. The first time when I had this problem it cleans the ‘other’ memory just with reseting the phone but when this problem pop ups again it doesnt work now. Try it and give me info :)

Holy calzone, you can’t describe how much this helped me, it cleared a whole whopping 4.3 GB. Since I’m a content creator it helped so much, thanks for the tips
That’s good for you, apple needs to fix this crap, cause I know most of us use phones on a daily basis, and this crappy storage is annoying.
I've done multiple resets on my 32GB iPad 8 running iPadOS 15.0.2, but the other STILL takes up huge chunk of my storage... It is mostly from a game called Genshin Impact, but the "Other" storage NEVER went above 4.5GB for me when I was on iPadOS 14.8. Now, the storage shows me that the game itself takes about 3.2GB (app size) and it seems that all of its cache data and files are dumped into "Other" category, making that part of size to be huge. Is this just a bug on iOS/iPadOS 15 in general? I just cannot seem to find a way to clear this :(

I had a similar issue and when visiting the Apple store near me. They advised me to sign out of my iCloud account, do a hard restart then sign back into my iCloud account.. those steps cleared out the issue I had which was 50GB+ of others/system iCloud storage

As much as we pay for these devices we need to demand that they change that! I don’t understand why they don’t offer a “clean your device” app for free. This crap is ridiculous and plagues all of my devices. I get that they are trying to force us to buy more storage, but it seems like getting more storage still isn’t solving the problem.

I recently got this message for the first time. I was surprised to learn that all the podcasts I have been listening to simply remain on my iPhone and were taking up so much space. The best way is to go into the individual settings for each subscription and choose to only keep the most recent episodes on the device. iOS recommends keeping the 3 most recent episodes which I selected for most of the subs and GBs of storage was reclaimed.
Yep, that was our problem. Auto-download on Podcasts. Nearly 10GB of them!! Stay subscribed but just turn off the auto-download feature within each podcast title. Made a huge difference for us.

Good info. Friend of mine asked me a question and I was surprised to not be able to figure out. How do you delete a photo off of your phone without it deleting from your iCloud storage? He asked someone at Apple and they couldn't figure it out either. Seems like this should be simple.
You can’t. If you want to keep photos you have to find an alternate cloud such as OneDrive or Box.
My iPad literally went from 15gb to full on like a minute, this is much needed

What I learned from being an Apple user for years is that you need an iCloud Storage subscription to avoid this inconvenience.
It makes everything easily accessible, specially when you’re in that ecosystem.
And you won’t need to buy the highest storage of iPhone/iPad/Mac ~ 128GB w/ iCloud Storage Sub is what I would recommend

look i live in mexico 10 bucks is 200 pesos *mxn currency. with 200 pesos i can eat for a week and when you learn (that i hope you don’t have to) what it’s like to live a day you’ll know you can’t afford to pay 1/4 of what you need to eat in some subscription that shouldn’t be needed in the first place. Little note:if you do delete all data in safari in the settings you lose everything until you log back in

Omg I literally hate it when I make a video and then when I try to upload it here comes “storage full” I I downloaded 3 games planning to redownload them after I uploaded the video. AND IT STILL TOLD ME MY STORAGE IS FUL!! I got so annoyed because I uninstalled like 3 games and I had to sacrifice more and I wasn’t doing that so thank you for this video.

literally uninstalled google drive and gained tons of storage back...
if you use google drive a lot, uninstall it from time to time but i usually wait like a day after uploading photos to just "marinate" the uploads lol
These companies should have one eMMC/UFS storage chip just for their respective Firmware OS, and another eMMC/UFS chip just for user data.
@Rob Odd That's what the two integrated flash storage chips are for. One strictly for the OS Firmware, and the other for the User Storage. For the OS Storage chip, 64 GB is enough room for the base OS, and all future updates and patches. The User Storage chip needs to be at least 8× more storage capacity than the OS Storage chip (i.e.: If the OS Storage chip has 64 GB, the User Storage chip must have 512 GB in it, and every single GB cannot be assigned anywhere else other than for User Storage.)
Don’t forget to delete your “Deleted” photos for good! They are saved in an album that allows you to recover or permanently delete photos and never get them back again.
Photos, slide down, recently deleted, delete any photos left.
When I delete. Ton in photos and voice messages I ended up with MORe used up storage, it first went down to 2.8 then up to 3.01

I got that message for the first time about a month ago. My 256G iPad went from about 90G used to 256G in one day! That’s when I discovered the “other” storage.

I think syncing in iTunes can free some space but it fills your computer.
My ipad is like: “your ipad storage is full” and im like: yeah cuz your making it full my taking up 6.31 gigs on the system and 7.84 gigs on the “other”

When did warns you about your storage there’s an option like Close or settings all you have to do is press settings and will take you to that where you can see how much data and storage it’s using 😊
One really great method is to software update your device to the latest, I did that and it freed a whooping 48 GB of memory. If you can’t upgrade to latest, just give up and buy a newer one.

Android has the same issue. With a 16gb phone most of the phone memory is used for other you may have 3 or 4 gb free.

I have offloaded ALL of the apps i have used, but still.. My other storage is still full..
I have a tip! While checking your storage, you’ll most likely see photos. If you go into the photos app, you can delete the recently deleted photos and/or videos permanently! This saved me a bunch 😅
Edit: Also the weird thing is that I don’t have the other category and only the others.

Thank you. I’ve got an iPad and OTHER was so annoying. What I did was deleted unnecessary data including apps and it still showed OTHER taking up a chunk of space. However, I switched off my iPad and turned it back on again, and Whoopie!! It worked, OTHER disappeared and space were freed up.
