- A look back at Dwight 'Dynamite' Davison, once rated as the number one middleweight contender in the early 1980s. NOTE: This is a re-upload. I added in a few more photos as well as the Charlie Boston fight which isn't on TH-cam.

Pound for pound the best Boxing 🥊 channel, your recognition of these fighters are always appreciated.
Thank you, Kevin.
Wow, I forgot about Dwight. Great story Rich !
Thank you, Fred.
I'm from the D and remember Mr. DAVIDSON, just never could get it together, may God bless him. 🙌 ijs 💯
Charlie Boston looked pretty good here.
I don't think I ever seen a fighter who appeared so weak looking but was tough, strong, smart, athletic and talented.
On what planet does he appear weak? The man looks physically stronger than most heavyweights.
Like the great Jimmy Wilde who struggled to get people to give him a chance cos he looked so frail. Never know by the look of a fighters build
First time hearing about him thanks for the knowledge 🥊
My pleasure, MPR.
I love seeing these great insights on fighters that might have gone forgotten to history if not for you, Rich. Great work as always.
Thanks so much, WolfmanJoe.
thank you rich, i appreciate what you do.
My pleasure, Robert.
I remember Dwight. He had the look of an arm puncher but had a good ko percentage. Thanks for the memories!
My pleasure, whitehurstcomic.
Thanks for the amazing video Rich ❤️
My pleasure, John.
Rich, thanks for adding another chapter in the boxing saga. Cheers mate!
My pleasure, John.
This was a great one Rich, thanks mate.
Sure thing, Getsmart.
It's a sad ending of a boxer. R.I.P Dwight Davison
One of the most unusual fighting styles Rich, I do remember Davison, remember the Sibson fight on TV as Sibson was a big prospect back in the eighties in the UK. Davison reminded me of the way George Foreman fought, sort of a straight up high guard and throwing big looping punches, he was just not aggressive enough, Emmanuel Steward must of had some confidence in him though, I think if Davison had been at the Kronk gym earlier in his career Steward would of improved him as he liked his boxers to be more aggressive. On a small note, the press note at the end was priceless Rich, top right hand piece, James Toney winning one of his very early fights, what a piece of boxing history. Nice one Rich, very enjoyable as always. 🥊👏
Thank you, Brett.
Thanks for this one Rich ! I had forgot about him..
Sure thing, Frenchgoldenboyfan.
Right on rich. Go figure dwight career takes a dive after hooking up with the king family
I've never considered him enough...thanks Rich
Sure thing, Paolo.
Great Video never heard about Davison, watching him fight he really seems like the text book definition of a awkward fighter.
Nice one Richie i got this on in the car 🙂 stuck in traffic
A very popular middleweight back in the day. Another great bio Rich!❤🙏🥊👏
Thank you, Baja.
I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out. 😂🤣😂🤣
Rich you need to post these full fights because I can’t come across any of those fight films, hell you have so much unseen footage you might as well of found foreman sparring Liston
Ah, I can only post highlights because of rights issues. I wish I had Foreman/Liston :)
Hello rich, I’m a big fan of your content, please make an episode about “James lights out toney” talking about his early life and career 💯👊🏻
He's on my to do list.
@@RichtheFightHistorian can’t wait 🙏🏼
Dynamite Rich cheers buddy .
are those bots strapped on you to stimy the channel somehow? theres more bots than people atm.
No, they pop up right whenever I first post the video.
This isn't the first fighter to fight lackadaisical under don king. I always thought he should of won his fights with epps and sibson. I think since bob arum promoted hagler he wasn't going to let don king near hagler hence davisons "losses ".just my opinion.
Always thought that Dwight was a good fighter, he was missing that extra something. Shame he didn't get by Sibson, him and Marvin Hagler could have been an interesting fight for a minute.
Dwight could have given Thomas Hearns and Milton McCrory good fights as well.
Rich do Billy Conn.
It'll be awhile, will probably get to Louis before him.
@@RichtheFightHistorian even better,thx
His life was saved not having to fite marvin imo lolol
Kind of reminds me of a super awkward foreman the way he fights .
He was a lot like Gerald McClellan body wise, but not as mean.
Sibbo beat him in a eliminator to fight king Marvin ….tony at the time had probably just peaked as he had over 50 pro fights but Davidson was a tough fighter nevertheless…
Davison had IBHOF physical tools and God given athletic ability but just didn’t have the mentality to be a great boxer…
I watched the Davison vs Sibson fight live on TV and Sibson won and got a shot at Hagler and was destroyed in 6 rounds - Maybe Davison could have done better against Hagler. 🥊
He probably could have lasted the distance, albeit in bad shape at the end.
I remember him from the 80's, but more from the Ring and KO. I never saw footage of him. I cant believe he wasnt knocked out earlier in his career. He throws punches with his hands at his waist, chin up in the air! Lucky he didnt meet Marvin or Hearns for that matter.
He was never knocked out in his entire career. Only dropped a couple times. Davison was tough..
@@triplejunction7073 I know I am saying I cant believe he wasnt! He hands are way low and totally open for counters.
@@brianseneca3546 extremely athletic boxers like Davison can get away with breaking the rules, up to a point…
@@triplejunction7073 I get you but he literally does almost EVERYTHING wrong that I have been trained on for years. If I hit a heavy bag with my hands down like that my coach walks by a hits me. "hands up and bring them home when your done punching."
@@brianseneca3546 Somehow he was able to amass a very good record, beat some really good boxers and become a highly ranked contender. He must have been doing something right.
King ruining another career , there are so many talented fighters king ruined . Some got lucky got away
I remember him! I also remember being highly disappointed at the Sibson fight. He showed nothing and acted like he had somewhere else he had to be. It’s pretty sad that someone so highly ranked is barely remembered except by aficionados. He had some thing working against him: he was a Detroit fighter NOT affiliated with Kronk when it mattered; not always the most crowd-pleasing style; and as I have been saying half-jokingly for years…he had NO NICKNAME! From the early 70s through the early 90s, you couldn’t be a credible middleweight without a nickname: Marvelous Marvin, Willie the worm, Bad Bennie, Bobby Boogaloo Watts, Frank the Animal Fletcher, John the Beast Mugabi, Juan Domingon Roldan, the Executioner, and the Dark Destroyer. Even guys who weren’t top contenders who had great nicknames are still remembered to day: Hard Rock Green andVampire Johnson. Dwight Davison? Nada. Sadly, he beat some top contenders and really tough fighters, but losing to guys like Robbie Epps and Sibson was unthinkable.
His nickname was "Dynamite" but they hardly used it in promos.
@@RichtheFightHistorian Michael Dokes kinda had a MONOPOLY on that back then, too.
His record of 44 - 8 with 33 ko's and never ko'ed is admirable. But he beat few top fighters, seemed to avoid the best
R u joking? Beat Murray Sutherland and Philly's Bennie Briscoe.
