I'm back with part 2 of episode 3 in my bookshelf tour series, where I show you the rest of my literary fiction & contemporary books!
Like in part 1, I talk about a bunch of my favorite reads, so I can't wait for you to hear about them! I also show a lot of books I haven't read yet, so I'd love to know which ones you think are worth prioritizing!

The Kite Runner & A Thousand splendid suns were the first books to make me cry and they went to the top of my list ever since. Im due a re-read. You will absolutely LOVE them
I ADORED A Gentleman in Moscow and read the other two novels by Amor Towles after finishing it. I think you will love it too. His writing is gorgeous and full of incredible details.
Carolyn please. I need more books like the painted girls and Vincent and Theo. I love paintings so I want read this two books. But I need more, maybe you can do a video with this topic. You can also recommend biographies and memoirs about famous painters. I would love to see this video too.
My family and other animals shall always be close to my heart. Its descriptions are deliciously written and the dialogue won't fail to make you chuckle. Larry, by far, is my favourite character for his wit and charisma, albeit pompous attitude and pretentiousness. Every character is so loveable though, a really charming read. 😄😊
I read "The Things They Carried" for uni when I was 21 and thought it was incredible, and it was something I never would have picked up on my own. I reread it when I was about 33 and while I was still very impressed by the writing my reaction to it as an older person was completely different. I plan to keep rereading it every 10-15 years just to see how age/experience keeps changing my perspective.
Both Khaled Housseini books are brilliant, but I would recommend The Kite Runner ❤️

I begin to fall in love with your book taste 😍. I love the shadow of the wind! I listened to the audio book last year and I thought it was the most beautiful book of last year *and I read like 105* And I also love Gilmore Girls, currently I‘m watching it again and I feel so cosy “being” in Stars Hollow :)
One of the greatest lines ever! Another Montoya line, if I remember it correctly "You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means." One of my favs.
I really enjoyed gentleman in Moscow! Also, there are so many Pushkin references in it..
Birdwatching is a major hobby of mine, and a couple years ago a fellow birdwatching friend gave me "The Peregrine" as a gift, saying it was one of his favorite books. I read it and thought it was terrific. I like how the book's form has this 'repetition and rigor' sensibility, and how that seems to echo the hunting ethos of its subject.

You are going to LOVE the Wolf Hall trilogy and A Gentleman In Moscow! For sure the most wonderful historical fiction novels of the 21st century, in my opinion. Both for different reasons, as they both have almost opposite vibes!
I hope you'll love The Anthropocene Reviewed! The audiobook is fantastic, John Green's voice is so soothing, I love love listening to it.

Hello from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦👍❤️👋🌲🍁... alchemist....read all as they became available in English ❤️ I think Kite Runner 1st, Nicholas Sparks, if you need to cry...I enjoy historical fiction, had to read Separate Peace in school (did not like) but loved to Kill a Mockingbird (also in school) and To Set a Watchman.

Carolyn, hi! I hope one day you elaborate on why you didn't like the catcher in the rye. I love most of the books that you do, especially Russian literature, and the catcher in the rye is probably my favourite book ever. That's why I find it so interesting that you didn't like it. I can also tell you that everything I've read by J. D. Salinger I've enjoyed a lot! It's different for everyone, but I hope you like Franny and Zooey. As always, love your video! :)
Kite Runner is my favorite book from all times, so I would recommend reading it.

I own and have read the first few books you mentioned! Like you I am not a big fan of science fiction but I truly enjoyed The Martian. It is hilarious. I suggest you read A thousand splendid suns. It is such a beautifully written story. Khaled Houssini is such a talented storyteller. Thank you for this video. I got to add some books to my TBR 😊
Absolutely loved this! We have VERY similar taste in books!! amazingly so! I loved Erling Kagge's book on Walking: One Step at a time and Silence in the Age of Noise. Overstory is on my TBR list. For nature writing, you might also enjoy Kathleen Dean Moore and Robin Wall Kimmerer, along with The Forest Unseen. On a more spiritual note, also nature writing-The Great Conversation by Belden Lane. So happy to have found your channel!
I am also now reading The Shadow of the Wind on audiobook too! It's amazing so far!
Shadow of the Wind is a series. There are three more after that.

Oh I love A September Peace! There is also another companion novel called Peace Breaks Out by John Knowles which I highly recommend as well! Please excuse the autocorrect … a Separate Peace I meant !!!

Schindler's List (originally published outside the U.S. as Schindler's Ark) isn't actually historical fiction-it's historical non-fiction, as it's based on the story of a real man and the events of his life. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it if you eventually read it!
@@GypsyRoSesx I feel like we need another description for novels like this-where the dialogue and specifics may be invented/dramatised, but the actual events are real. Historical dramatised non-fiction? Real historical fiction?

regarding brazilian literature, i recommend posthumous memoirs of brás cubas more than the alchemist
I simply adored A Gentleman in Moscow it is just like a Russian novel such a brilliant read but I was so disappointed with his follow up though.
I love these shelves tours! Have you read The Awakening by Kate Chopin? Swimming is a very important part in the book. Also, I was wondering if you have seen the movie adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird, from 1962 (I think). It's amazing!

I feel a bit silly posting this comment, but I've never quite understood what does "literary fiction" means.... I think we don't have the equivalent word in French, so that may be why. I've tried to search on google, but everything I could find sounded very vague to me. If someone would be kind to explain it, I would be very grateful😅
To my understanding literary fiction has more artistic/creative writing style, the format is more tailored, it has stronger messages and usually deeper emotional impact, more strongly focused on characters/relationships or profound lessons, stronger real life substance. Although everyone seems to describe it differently I've even heard it described as "books that don't fit the other genres and is mostly focused on characters" 😅
@@wandering0wonderland Oh ok I see. After reading books I sometimes told myself : "That's weird... I really love this book, but if someone had told me what it was about beforehand, I would probably have thought 'nah sounds boring'; but it's actually very quotable, and I got thoroughly compelled by the story for an unknown reason"
They were probably literary fiction ones 😅😂
@@dori-anne8330 Aw isn't it amazing when that happens? I find that myself often too especially with Classics. Also discovered that I adore Hard Sci-fi last year and never would have expected it haha I guess as readers it inspires us to try different genres and topics even if we are unsure! It's so great to keep an open mind like that and then bring that into our every day life as well ✨

Paulo Coelho The Alchemist is a very primitive book. I read all his popular books (Veronica Decides to Die, etc.). I wouldn’t re-read it and would give the books away for free. Instead of the Alchemist, it is better to choose Siddhartha Hermann Hesse. I saw this book (drawings of koi carps) on your shelf.
