Here’s a statement on the difference between genre fiction and literary fiction I found online: “Generally, genre fiction tends to place value on entertainment and, as a result, it tends to be more popular with mass audiences. Literary fiction, on the other hand, is a bit trickier to define. In general, it emphasizes meaning over entertainment. Literary fiction also aspires toward art.”

LegendBorn is amazing. It's not dark magic the synopsis kind of seems that way. And it gives so much beauty to black women and their struggles and power.
For me literary fiction is more character driven and reflective while contemporary is more plot driven and mirrors more realistic experiences.
Evelyn Hugo is considered to be a Historical Fiction. Contemporary Fiction is a modern-day fictional story, and Literary Fiction generally focuses on social issues. Any of these fiction genres may or may not have a romantic interest but it’s not the focus of the story.

I loved Legendborn 😅. Please think about giving it a try. It is sooooooo good!!!! The story itself is fun, but also seeing this through the eyes of a black girl was so relatable and super refreshing in a genre where you don't see that often. Also total side note but where do you get your outfits? They're always so pretty 😄

You’re correct…contemporary fiction is set in the present or recent. Literary fiction is more complex, heavily character driven. The writing style is more prose.

Legendborn is a great book, based on Camelot magic, but I think it could be triggering for you right now. I don't support Sarah Dessen because of her questionable online behavior. An excellent romantasy is Radiance by Grace Draven. It's very accessible, unlike Dune which is for those who are really into very complex magic systems.

I really enjoyed your thoughts about these books. I loved Black Cake as well as Opal & Nev. I think I liked them because it wasn’t heartbreaking. It was like quieter disappointments that stuck to you. I also thought the characters had good support. I can’t read books where the characters are alone or books that are heart wrenching. I loved a book that made me cry when I was younger, but I am not ready for that now.
This space is a space of joy! You show us real life and the emotions that come with it. You make us smile and heal all at the same time. I hope that when you post just as you are, you know that we are so grateful for your bravery and transparency.
Side note: Geez my TBR is so long because of you 🤣😂 my mama sick of me going to the bookstore. But I love it lol.
I had my dark Vanessa out of the library but took it back for time being unread. Last summer when I was at the bookstore at shore I asked about literary fiction the old owner picked The Lincoln library as one so I ended up buying it to read but still haven’t gotten to it. Hopefully will read it before summer.

I watched the one of us lying show and I really liked it but I watched a retelling of the book so ,I wasn’t completely new to the plot before watching the show. Read love redesign it was good I loved the best way is to listen to it.

It’s a manga. Thats original story of sailor moon . Definitely different story from the anime they use to show. It’s worth a read too.

“ Black Cake”and “The Other Black Girl”. The book, “The Other Black Girl”, wasn’t great and I haven’t read “Black Cake” because I was afraid I wasn’t going to enjoy the book either. However I ended up watching the show-and also “Black Cake” it was amazing to watch. Some people said the book “Black Cake” is great to read too. But, I 100% agree that the show is better in my opinion. But thank you for always being a channel that gives that comfort and laughter also a place of happiness. I love your Afro and lately I have been really enjoying my Afro so much more especially at my new job and just period lol. Your Afro is amazing and you always rock it beautifully.
