I had years of people denying there'd ever been such a thing as "Behind the Fridge". Amazing that it's been all but consigned to oblivion. Not as pioneering as the 60s material, obviously, but fascinating. And yes folks, that was its title, an early 1970s spoof of Beyond the Fringe.
When I watch these I can’t help imagining David Bowie and Brian Eno’s Pete and Dud routine. Brian said that when working together they would stay in character for days
I assume that everyone else noticed that the funniest part of this whole sketch was the was it was all held together by the underlying theme, which was that Pete was treating Dud as a slave, a housewife. But, as perhaps most women do, he just accepted it. Really brilliant! One of the funniest sketches I have ever seen.
I was gonna post "That was Dud sans moustache not peter", then i thought i'll watch the rest of it incase peter takes off his moustache, i did and saved myself the embarrasment of a inapt comment....but anyway pete with or without 'stache is a genius.
a lady is peppered from head to foot with erogenous zones! I'm writing that line down for my benefit, so I can remember it and quote it at inappropriate moments. Ooh, that were proper comedy, not like what you get on the telly nowadays. Blooming marvellous
I love it when when Pete has ad-libbed a line and Dud really wants to crack up. He must have felt really emasculated working with the comic powerhouse that was Peter Cook.
Dudley emasculated? Hardly. Although his comedy was somewhat more physical, I find him every bit as funny as Peter and, at times, as on an appearance on the Dick Cavett show, Dudley carried ALL of the verbal humor. I admit Peter is a great intellectual comic, but Dudley is no slouch, and I've watched everything these two have done at least twice. Plus, Dudley's talent as a jazz pianist blows me away. Although these two were ahead of my time, I do adore them both and cannot stop watching their sketches again and again, as well as Dudley's piano performances. What a shame we can't clone these two because there will never be another pair like them.
Dudley seems to be a bit fed up with Pete in this sketch. Their relationship was very complex and at times strained. Dud is giving up on the accent and seems bored.
JUST BRILLIANT !!! Loved the AD-LIB when their props were failing !!
they are amazing. I love Dudley's baggy pants.
😉 most actors today would find this script extremely long but these 2 make it look effortless which shows u just how brilliant they were. 😍❤️😍❤️😎
love the way they incorporated the mustache falling off, just keep the line moving as they say.
Fascinating. My brother took me to see this in the theatre one afternoon in about 1974.
“Like the Ganges in here”: referring to the taste of the tea! 😱😂😂😂😂👍 Ganges us polluted! 😂

I have found myself confronted with much the same dilemma in regard to the 1962 documentary on the history of the guillotine, "Behead The French"!
My 1992 fern-cultivation documentary Behold the Frond fell victim to similar confusion.
Brilliant!!!
These guys were the precursors to Montey Python and SNL.

It's a terrible state of affairs that this brilliant sketch and not be made today... Shane
I has no idea that any of their shows were in colour. Thanks for putting this on here. I never missed their shows as a kid. I miss 'em now.
Notwithstanding the sheer brilliance of the lines, the thing that makes me laugh the most is when Dudley right on the edge of losing it completely.

Dud was right up with Pete in this sketch. Possibly even a little ahead?
I lived in Crouch End until I was 14...I am honoured...Wooo Hooo!
"get some more glue on my moustache, would you?"
The "You be mum" line went unnoticed.
Busty substances! LOL!
Oh, okay--that ties in with the "World Cup Football Players" one's supposed to save up to send in to get a free teabag! Thanks!

I got Martin Peters up the spout 🤣

😂🤣😅 THE VERY BEST ‼️
"Eroneous zones"....perfect!
It's a shame that Dudley Moore died such a terribly painful death. These two together were truly brilliant.
Martin Peters is a famous English footballer who played for West Ham in the late '60s.
And Dud got him up the spout.
That whole mustache thing was ad-libbed, I suppose? If so, they did a good job playing it off.
What is the "Oh, look, I've got Martin Peters up the spout" reference, after he looks into the stinking teapot?
i thought the best bits was the words they said!😮
peter's soooo cute sans mustache
I saw the play at the Cambridge Theater in London in 1973 and it was hysterical. Who siad that the British aren't funny?
No-one
Bill Morgenstein nobody has ever said that
fab!

In 2022 there are 'bugger all' satirical and hysterical comedy commentary based on real issues. [Melbourne]
i agree, awwwww :-)
genius
there is an older version of this sketch which is much funnier and better executed but for some reasons it was removed from youtube
Where can we find it?
I'm a stranger and I've been bugging you!
great
How did he die ?
I thought it was Beyond the Fringe
Reynaldo J. Nunez this is later years caaaant
has anyone got a link to pete and dud on religion? no longer on youtube

This sketch is a little slack compared to Cook and Moores finest.
Always love Pete & dud. Shame they replaced there original character voices with these rather camp, pompous ones. Hmm.
