Great song! For some reason, I always think this song is older than it is. It always has the feel of like a Linda Ronstadt or Pat Benatar type song to me. Both of whom were huge female artists from the 70s and 80s that you should definitely check out! In fact, check out Linda Ronstadt's "Blue Bayou". There's a definite similar vibe to this song. Also, a lot of 90s country female artists where country had also been influenced by that era and sounded more pop and rock. Since Alannah Myles was Canadian, Shania Twain obviously comes to mind. She was huge, and if you want to talk about sexy, they didn't get much hotter than Shania! Martina McBride and Mary Chapin Carpenter also come to mind, but there were a lot of great 90s country female artists. I know that Alannah Myles had a bigger career than this song, but I'm not really familiar with it, and I think this was definitely a stand out song for her. Reminds me of Sophie B. Hawkins. She had a killer song in the 90s called "Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover", that you should definitely do, and I know she probably had more going on than that, but I don't really know it. Remember hearing this for the first time when it came out. Sultry and sexy sound with great instrumentation backing her up. Unfortunately, her career never really took off after this. Not sure is she is still perforrming. There is a Ukrainian duo named Sershen & Zaritskaya (now known as No Apology) who did a pretty good cover of this song a few years ago.. Did not think that anyone could match Alannah Myles sultry style in this video, but Daria Zaritskaya is pretty close.

If you like this one but feel guilty because you've heard part of it try reacting to Lover of Mine or our Still Got This Thing. Both received success internationally. She has a wonderful voice and covers several different genres. IMO she is very underrated.
She had another hit with the song Love Is. It was not as big as Black Velvet. The song Black Velvet was both a blessing and a curse for her.. It was a huge hit and and got her name out there but it sounded nothing like anything else she did. People expecting the sultry southern blues instead found a more modern sounding Canadian pop rock singer. Great voice and very lovely but she faded away.
Her voice is something else. If she sang the Arby's menu all the young men would get uncomfortably hot. The problem is this song was released before the internet so its popularity depended on radio air play which depended on record industry promotion which was decided by greedy old men who read charts instead of listening to the music. I'm not sure why we haven't heard a lot more from her after this song, but the structure of the industry back then denied exposure to many fantastic artists. Women might have Barry White to help get in the mood, but Alannah Myles does it for me.
I respect channels more that admit they've seen something before. Sometimes I see a react from someone my age pretending they haven't seen something like the Matrix. Think these channels are so popular because people want to see something genuine. Also finding a song you vaguely remember and hearing it in full for the first time - realizing where it came from. That's something in itself.
Alannah should have been bigger, since she is Canadian she got a lot of radio play here. It was mandated from the federal government that radio stations play a certain amount of Canadian artists, which helped many Canadian artists to make their mark, I don't get why it didn't help her more since she is a real talent. Many of her songs are like this, blues rock, one of my favourites, on the softer side, but still her distinct voice, is "Lover of mine".

I think you would have enjoyed this song 501 % more if you had done a tiny bit of reading first , and realized that she was honoring The King - Elvis Presley.. it is really mind blowing that you never noticed all of the references to Elvis in this song. I really do wish that you read the meaning of the songs before you react to them. It is not just about the amazing groove this song is drenched with , it is also about the amazing words , and the amazing history.

Remember hearing this for the first time when it came out. Sultry and sexy sound with great instrumentation backing her up. Unfortunately, her career never really took off after this. Not sure is she is still perforrming. There is a Ukrainian duo named Sershen & Zaritskaya (now known as No Apology) who did a pretty good cover of this song a few years ago.. Did not think that anyone could match Alannah Myles sultry style in this video, but Daria Zaritskaya is pretty close.

If you like this one but feel guilty because you've heard part of it try reacting to Lover of Mine or our Still Got This Thing. Both received success internationally. She has a wonderful voice and covers several different genres. IMO she is very underrated.
She had another hit with the song Love Is. It was not as big as Black Velvet. The song Black Velvet was both a blessing and a curse for her.. It was a huge hit and and got her name out there but it sounded nothing like anything else she did. People expecting the sultry southern blues instead found a more modern sounding Canadian pop rock singer. Great voice and very lovely but she faded away.

Her voice is something else. If she sang the Arby's menu all the young men would get uncomfortably hot. The problem is this song was released before the internet so its popularity depended on radio air play which depended on record industry promotion which was decided by greedy old men who read charts instead of listening to the music. I'm not sure why we haven't heard a lot more from her after this song, but the structure of the industry back then denied exposure to many fantastic artists. Women might have Barry White to help get in the mood, but Alannah Myles does it for me.

Alannah should have been bigger, since she is Canadian she got a lot of radio play here. It was mandated from the federal government that radio stations play a certain amount of Canadian artists, which helped many Canadian artists to make their mark, I don't get why it didn't help her more since she is a real talent. Many of her songs are like this, blues rock, one of my favourites, on the softer side, but still her distinct voice, is "Lover of mine".
