In Muay Thai rules Superlek won. The cut inflicted was high scoring but Superlek scoring the knock down was pretty much a guarantee win and the knees and kicks to Rodtangs body were also effective high scoring for Superlek.

I don’t even hardly know where to watch fights other than buying them because I’d like to avoid streaming for as long as I can.
It's crazy how the 5lbs weight miss by Superlek is ignored a lot. That's massive and takes away a lot from the "win", and he didn't even win that imo. At best it was a draw, and he was lucky to get that knockdown too, Rodtang wasn't hurt one bit because from different camera angles you can see it was a slip/off balance in reality.

I thought Rodtang won the majority of the fight and caused the most damage, so personally didn't think the knock down was enough for Superlek to win the fight.
To be fair you have to give it to Superlek for defeating someone like that.
According to One rules he was the winner. Because of the knock-down it was 28-28 and since knock-down is ranked higher than damage Superlek won. Though I have to say the knock-down was highly questionable in my book. Without it I had Rodtang was a clear winner in my book.

As someone who lived and fought in Thailand for several years, I'm really not surprised by the results. The drop makes it almost impossible for to win on points without a drop on your own.
That is why Superlek went mostly defensively to shut Rodtang down the last round and Rodtang had to chase. These are both very experienced Thai fighters and in the end Rodtang knew he lost and Superlek knew he won.

Yeah when you are ahead in traditional judging in Muay Thai you're supposed to just protect your lead. I thought it was a close fight but I'm not surprised Superlek won.

I’m glad I found you saying the same thing… I watched the fight live this morning and was mind blown Superlek came out with the win. It was a close fight but Rodtang laid out a serious beating, opened up Superlek’s forehead almost immediately in the beginning of the first round

I was always told sweeps were big points in thai boxing so when I saw Rodtang sweep Superlek three times in the THIRD ROUND I was fully confident that he won. I guess the knockdown was that big to the judges.

It's scored round-by-round. Superlek scored a knockdown in R2, which in kickboxing and muay thai is a 10-8 round. If you think Rodtang won R1 and R3, those are two 10-9 rounds for him, making the scores 28-28. ONE do not have draws or extra rounds in their kickboxing or muay thai rulesets, the judges must pick a winner. The top criteria in the instance the scores are tied is knockdowns, meaning Superlek wins. Those are the rules. The conversation around Superlek's weight miss should be the only controversial part of this fight, the decision was what it should have been.
A sweep is classed as a knockdown in Muay Thai, you can’t give someone a win for a single sweep if all is square, that’s just ridiculous. I won’t be watching ONEFC again and I’ve been a Muay Thai fan since the 90’s, I won’t be sad to see the end of the never ending stream of posts from them in my feed that’s for sure.
@@InimitaPaul ONE do not score sweeps as knockdowns. The knockdown given for Superlek in the 2nd round was Rodtang going down following an elbow to the face and knee to the body against the ropes.
Honestly after watching it again Rodtang picked it up in the second you can probably give that a 9-9 if you saw the "knockdown" it was a clean punch followed by a push down in my opinion.

You are right, but this just goes to show how dumb these rules are. Take what actually happened and then exaggerate it. In theory, one fighter can leave the other a complete bloody mess and dominate them the entire fight, but the other fighter could get one punch in that knocks them down, and even if they get up straight away and aren't even hurt, whilst the fighter who has just scored the knockdown leaves the ring completely bloodied and battered, he will have still lost the fight.
No, it's simply not right. We don't need judges if these are the rules. If there is no judges' discretion, and they can't score damage more heavily, regardless of how much damage there is, then it's just non-sensical.

Elbow was in the 1st round. Rodtang wins the first 10-9, Superlek got a knockdown in the 2nd round so 10-9 Superlek. It was 1-1 going into the 3rd, very close which could have been scored either way.

I personally had a draw under the scored as a whole MT rule set with cut/knockdown cancelling each other out, Rodtangs posture at the end equalling Superleks superior technique and undefended kicks
@@Suplex479dj has a bias for rodtang, which is understandable bc most ppl do. This was a clear loss for rodtang and that cut in round 1 is making ppl completely ignore the rest. Round 3 was the only winning round for him. If we were being generous to rt, at most he could've earned a draw. He lost that fight and superlek deserved that win
This a rtarded take. The knockdown already put Superlek ahead and Rodtang needed a knockdown or KO to win. Even then, Rodtang still round 3 bc he couldn't land a significant strike. Superlek nullified him with clinching and kneeing, earning him a unanimous decision. Scoring is legit. The judges are honest and good. The only thing that bothers me is Superlek's weight, which clearly helped in the clinch. But then again, Rodtang has also missed weight before

Great Breakdown DJ. Love the videos. Superlek missing weight by five pounds in a Championship bout, showed more visible damage, and appeared to gas out going into the third just trying to hold on to Rodtang to survive. Rodtang pressured nicely, landed the bigger/cleaner shots throughout the fight, and fought the clinch of Superlek very well. The knockdown in the second is controversial for me due to the ropes, would love to see more angles on that. Even with the “knockdown”, Rodtang always appears the more fresh fighter with better pressure. All in all, I scored it for Rodtang as the victor. Shout out to both fighter for putting on such an epic performance. I’d love to see it again with Superlek on weight, and knowing what they know now about being in there with each other. Thanks again DJ.

What fight did you watch? Superlek nullified Rodtang in 3rd round with clinch+knees. Rodtang did not adjust to it as you so claim. Rodtang landed little to no significant strikes in the 3rd round. It was a clear win for Superlek. Casuals

Rodtang was the better fighter hands down, but the win was 100% according to One's MT rules. They have a 10 point must system and because of the very questionable knock down it was 28-28. After that they criteria is 1. knock-downs, 2. damage, 3 aggression (?) I feel like there is a fourth criteria. So because of the knock-down they had to give it to Superlek.
The knockdown was clean. There are multiple angles of it online and in all of them, the elbow connects.

It was 2:1 but the knockdown tipped the scale in Superleks favor. Someone that knows explained that to me.

commentators asked Nong-0 who was sitting near by who he
thinks won. Before the decision was even made Nong-O said
"I'm supporting Rodtang, but Superlek is gonna take it because
of the knockdown"
In Muay Thai rules, kicks, knees and elbows score higher than punches. Superlek capitalized on that and the knockdown. Rodtang is mainly a ferocious puncher and in a rematch, which he deserves due to Superlek missing weight, he has to throw more kicks and knees to improve his chance of winning. If he does that in a 5-rounder I think Rodtang wins. Respect where respect is due though, Superlek despite the weight advantage looked great. Haggerty has to watch out.

It's really a pity that friends fought with each other. At the start of the second round, Rodtang hesitated. They were good friends. This battle was very heart wrenching
I did think Superlek barely edge the match, by ONE rules. and also his strategy to get in and hug it out was a smart adjustment to Rodtang pouring on the pressure. What I dont like is that there was literally no penalty for missing weight.. He looked huge in there compared to Rodtang. I wanna see it ran back 5 rounds, as it seem Superlek was starting to tire a bit and Rodtang was starting to pour it on.

Muay thai scoring is weird in Thailand..I have been to many stadiums in Thailand and I was baffled at some of the decisions...punches are the lowest scores in muay thai knees and elbows score the best

I scored the first and third for Rodtang clear. The knockdown (couldn't see if it was really a knockdown) in the second probably made it a 10-8, so it should have been a DRAW imo
Muay thai isn't scored round for round like mma and boxing. It's scored by overall performance. It's a odd system
you should lose 1 point automatically on the total scorecard if you miss weight. Losing the money is not really punishing them much

I lived in Thailand. In the stadiums they essentially don't even score punches unless it rocks the opponent. Trips/kicks> knee/elbow>punch. Is general consensus from Thais I trained with. But One from my knowledge doesn't use that scoring system, so not sure how Superlek won.

It was because of the knock-down. The score was 28-28 in my book. After that they count knock-downs and since Superlek had that very questionable knock-down he won. If there were no knock-downs and still split, the next criteria is damage and Rodtang would have won.

Superlek countered Rodtang closeness with clinching by out kneeing him and Rodtang could do nothing about it. Either way it could've been a draw and they might have a rematch when Superlek can cut back on his weight but my money will always be on SuperLek. I seen many fighters lose after giving their opponent a cut on their face with a Elbow and I could tell Rodtang was trying to hide the pain he was in and they should let Thai fighters clinch more since it's a part of Muay Thai. 💯

This fight proof Rodtank so damn hard and tough skin (durable) eat a lot weapons but barely no scratch.
But I think that’s elbow knock down not make him pain just scrape and and his angle sprains while try to dodging but new get count rule : count all situation that strike touch and down.

I think Superlek won by points and by overall output in all 3 rounds. However I do think Rodtang was the cleaner fighter and also had more clean hits. Yes, i saw Superlek clinging a lot, but thats allowed so it probably was his game plan. But since the fight went the distance and since the ref said it was a knockdown I see how they gave it to Superlek. Anyways great fight and awesome breakdown as always DJ

I think it's a classic volume vs damage debate. And Rodtangs damage didn't outweigh Superlek's (damage as a result of) volume after the first round imo

What I haven't seen anyone mention, although I've not particularly been looking, is that Rodtang also dominated the clinch, throwing Superlek down a couple of times. If Rodtang going down in a admittedly winning-to-the-layman's-eye second round for Superlek lost him the fight, why did Rodtang's clinch superiority not factor in in the same way? I thought balance was a big part of Muay Thai's valuation system.
What? Rodtang didn’t dominated the clinch, he got outscored badly in the clinch and its what made him loose the fight. Superlek scored a lot of knees in the clinch and except for three times that Rodtang sweep him controlled the clinch, check out how he controlled Rodtang hands so he wasn’t able to punch or elbow properly and allowed him to enter the clinch more easily. Even without the knockdown Superlek would have won round 2 and he won round 3, check the scorecards.
Also learn how to score a Muay Thai fight, I’m not saying it in a bad way but it would help you understand a Muy Thai fight better, a lot of new people are new to Muay Thai and doesn’t understand the scoring system and think that punches and elbows score way higher than kicks or knees, where elbows knees and kicks score better than punches and lowkicks, for a punch or a lowkick to score on equal terms than the other three has to do significant damage or generate a reaction (flinch or similar) to the opponent.
Also being aggressive is something that only matters if the scoring is on equal terms, same goes for damage received so in this fight even if Superlek was cut badly, because he scored way more than Rodtang it isn’t a factor at the time of making the decision.
Hope this can help you understand Muay Thai better.
And yeah Dj is wrong in this one, hope he can educate himself better into the sport.

I realise now I type it that that's almost exactly what I said already but I guess contextual cues are easy to miss.
In general though, I think the idea that the scoring *should* favour kicks and knees is stupid. If you're trying to mimic a true fight through rules, the actual balance or perhaps flow of a fight should matter, with regards to figuring out who was actually winning it. You can say Superlek won the Muay Thai scoring sure, but if you showed anyone the fight, they're going to tell you that Rodtang won handily and that should be represented in the scoring.
Basically, if you want the sport to grow, making the scoring make sense makes more sense than expecting people to learn a scoring system that doesn't.
Going in, getting whopped for most of a fight a winning by unanimous decision is not a good look for the fighter or the sport.
I don't know for sure but believe that a sweep/throw down from a clinch doesn't score because the imbalance wasn't created by a strike. It does show dominance which could sway the judges in a close fight. One rules may be different.

If Rodtang would had responded the knees with his own knees he would had win the fight, but it's easier to say it than do it.
@@somebody7889 Which I still think is dumb, because the implied part of getting thrown/swept to ground is getting the shit kicked out of you, and if we're stopping people from doing that for the safety of their opponent and entertainment factor of the sport, the fact that you would have got the shit kicked out of you should factor in far more that some scoring but not effective-enough knees.

Hes scoring while moving back, its a big part of superleks fighting style and you can watch a video on it by muay thai gram. In this fight against rodtang he scored kicks by rodtang not checking them, then evading with evasive footwork when rodtang tried closing the distance to land punches. In my opinion this was a pretty clear win for superlek since he won the majority of exchanges.
Also when rodtang did manage to close the distance superlek neutralized him in the clinch.
I 100% agree with this statement. I was pretty sure superlek won. The elbow was big for rodtang, but superlek was busy with those kicks. It looked like he was able to shut down rodtangs typical style of throwing heavy punches. I’m surprised DJ thought rodtang deserved that win!

rodtang got robbed on the scales. if this was a 5 round fight and superlek came in on weight. it would have been a way different outcome. superlek bullied him all fight but gassed late and those 5lbs made a huge difference.

Rodtang was knocked out for a split second and felt to the floor during the fight. This was the decisive event. The fight was scored 28-28 with Superlek scoring a lot of points with knees and clinch. I agree that Rodtang was the best fighter but Superlek was the most strategic (won by points).
He was never knocked out wtf are you on about. It was barely a knockdown either. He got him off balance and then used his body weight to push him through the ropes with a knee. Rodtang poped up completely fine and ready to fight.

Super close great fight. I thought Superlek landed cleaner throughout the fight imo. The cut was big but Superlek still was able to strike effectively. The biggest moment was definitely the knockdown in the 2nd. Rodtang definitely pressed forward more which made it super close. Great Fight.

@@Mighty15xBecause of One MT rules they had to give it to Superlek. I think the score was 28-28 because of the KD. Because of their list of criteria after score values Knock-Down higher than damage it was correct according to One-rules. Without the KD Rodtang would have won it.

Should have been a draw. Rodtang round 1 and 3 and Superlek round 2 with a knockdown so a 10-8 round. Don't know if there are draws in ONE muay thai though.
