I never celebrated kawaniza but I have grew up going to church on sunday since late 80s up til 2000s then went to catholic . I been to family reunions too once in awhile. I grew up on cosby show a different world and family ties . I grew up micheal jackson and hearing hip hop and my mom love prince and I liked prince too. I also grew up watching soul train in the late 80s through late 90s
Not every black family attended church. Most were forced to convert to Christianity when enslaved and forbidden to nurture their own spiritual life. They were also prohibited to read the Bible, and taught to comfort themselves with songs and romanticized ideals to cope with and endure abominable dehumanizing treatment from the same people who forced Christianity. With all due respect, No Thanks.
Christianity preceded slavery. There is mention of an Ethiopian's conversion in the Bible. Some folks twisted scripture for their own purposes but, don't throw the baby out with the bath water. No one can be forced into christianity because It is a decision of the heart.
I do wish my little siblings were able to grow up with the things that my family use to do. As much as i hated church i feel; like it gave us something to do everyday we were more active but yk as we grow our interest change while others dont.
I miss the 80s.
