    Nominate students, CCQs, and camaraderie were absolutely not an issue in the course I just took. This is because we spent so much time on zoom together that it's only slightly different than real life. The biggest difference was the variety of countries that the learners were from. Which was a plus of an online course. But yeah the entire course is on zoom so you spend literally 8 hours a day on video chat with your group and you are expected to collaborate with them the whole time. Also breakout rooms on zoom do a good job of simulating many environments like group work as it would be in a classroom setting. Also you are sharing your computer screen so even though you aren't using a whiteboard you are using Power point instead and making it into a whiteboard with then pen feature. The CCQ's and nominating all happen on zoom similarly to a class room. The biggest difference is that you aren't standing up and can't physically walk around. Since the workload is so large that you don't have time to exercise, I definitely felt like the lack of natural walking around that would happen in a normal classroom environment affected my health negatively. Also you probably are not projecting your voice as much on zoom, so that part would be different. But other than that the experience felt as valuable as face to face, and in some ways more so because the students that we taught were so diverse. Also you are sharing your computer screen so even though you aren't using a whiteboard you are using Power point instead and making it into a whiteboard with the pen feature. The biggest negative was that accessing course books online was a bit convoluted and since you had to sight things in a bibliography in every assignment it was a bit annoying to use online books.

    Martin, thank you for the video. I have applied for the online CELTA course. I agree with all the cons and pros listed. Yes, after completing the online course a novice teacher might experience some difficulties teaching in the face-to-face class.
    But for those with a long teaching experience , like me, all this situation with quarantine and opportunity of taking online CELTA is very beneficial 👍

    Thanks Martin! It was really useful video for me. I am going to get CELTA course and I was thinking change my 4 weeks intense course to online course. There are really good advantages but also disadvantages, I hope I can find the most useful one for me. 🙏🏾 Thanks again from Turkey 🇹🇷🙏🏾

    Am well excited CELTAs offered fully online at this time. No need to TRAVEL which was a big prohibitive issue/expense in past. To do it now while a lot of us are 'unemployed' or jobs frozen at present is a no brainer. Also I am seeing more than 4 or 5 weeks long but less than 12 weeks classes and I am like YEA! Think saving on travel and accommodation costs is a massive plus, outweighing the teaching 'online only' downfall by far.

      I am so pleased that you agree. Obviously, learning to teach face-to-face in a physical classroom will return after these difficult times but at least practitioners and teacher trainers are better prepared for remote teaching/learning.

      I completely agree with you R Lifestye! This would be taking the best possible advantage of this scenario. I'm in the same ship as you, waiting for the Covid-19 to ease out, and just finished my master studies. Which has made me think that doing Celta would be really making most of my time right now, as in the future it'd be really difficult to get 1 month off from work when you're working full-time. So, to me, it feels like either it's now or never, for the opportunity wise to avail it.
      The cost of online Celta is nearly half of what you might be paying for face to face. I've just gotten enrolled at IH Budapest for their online course starting in July. Even for someone who doesn't have any teaching experience, I think by just going to a physical class for a few days shall offset the balance. Also, I think the most important part of the class is the lesson playing and methods of teaching, which you get to learn on the CELTA course, irrespective of doing it online or in class.

    I'm getting the CELTA online this summer in my city and I'm very worried about the disadvantages you've mentioned. The Covid19 crisis started when I'd already applied and paid half of it. The centre decided to carry on but only online. I really don't know how to achieve the face-to-face knowledge when things get better.
    Thanks a lot for your videos, they are very helpful!!

    Thank you for this. I've spent all evening deliberating which option to go for, but as I'm in New Zealand and things are mostly back to normal here, I'm going to stick with what I know and take the physical course. I have never taught English online before, but feel like CELTA will be intense enough without having to juggle learning to work online too. It will definitely be an area of mine to work on though, post-qualification!

      Thank you for sharing your plans and I hope you find the face-to-face CELTA course rewarding. It makes sense to learn how to teach in a physical classroom as things will return to normality in the future. Online teaching and learning is quite innovative but requires a whole new skill set.

    Hello! I am considering CELTA. I am a certified teacher in secondary level social studies in the US, and I have taken several courses toward my MA TESOL. I am interested in working in Iraqi Kurdistan, with some specific universities in mind. I have read that generally programs conducted fully online are not recognized for qualification purposes in the Middle East, and that employers may follow up on this even for a legitimate CELTA. It does seem that video chat would make the course fully intensive and immersive, but should I wait to either take an in person CELTA or resume my MA?

    • @ELTExperiences
      @ELTExperiences  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend that you complete your MA TESOL first and then consider undertaking the CELTA afterwards. Perhaps by the time you finish your MA, the CELTA will be more face-to-face. However, there is a combination between online and face-to-face, called 'Blended', and I believe that this would also be a possibility. Good luck with your course and I am sure you will make the right choice.

    would you recommend the online celta through teaching house USA and is it worth the $2,475 price ? is job guaranteed from home to teach online?

    Are there any disadvantages of doing a CELTA course online, when it comes to opportunities? Basically, in the ELT sector, is an online CELTA course valued less than an offline CELTA course when it comes to employability.

    • @ELTExperiences
      @ELTExperiences  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have approached training centres regarding this and there is no disadvantage. It is not considered less in value compared to a face-to-face CELTA. In fact, with the vast majority of course being conducted remotely, I think that an online CELTA is more suitable at this time.
      Finally, when classes are conducted within a physical environment in the future, perhaps it is best for trainees to have some minor support and training.

    What online TEFL course do you recommend that is not a CELTA? There are so many out there and it is hard to know which has the best material. Thank you and keep the videos coming. :)

    • @kak4749
      @kak4749 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trinity Cert Tesol! This is the best alternative course if you're not interested in Celta. They both are competing with each other and are considered the two best courses out there. All the rest, I think are just there for students looking at shortcuts, and cheaper courses for working visa reasons in many countries.

    Is it possible to get a English teacher job abroad after completing the online TEFL course not celta? I have a Bachelor degree.

    • @kak4749
      @kak4749 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is definitely possible. However, as non-native, you'd have to get used to a lot of rejections. Also, it depends on how fluent you're when speaking the language. Celta is still not that much recognised in South East Asia, as it is in Middle East, Europe, and South America. Still, if you're serious about teaching English, and want it as a career, there is nothing better than starting with a Celta as it is the so-called Gold Standard in English teaching.
