They do not want properly educated people because the Republican party would not exist if we had an educational system that was on par with other developed countries. 2: Nikki Haley knows she can't say anything bad about slavery or the Confederacy etc, because those are HER exact voters. Conservatives loved slavery 200 years ago, and if it were not for the Civil War and then the 13/14/15th amendments that were added afterwards, most of the South would STILL have slavery to this day. I remember 7 or 8 years ago when I found out who Nikki Haley was she said something along the lines of “South Carolina has had a tough history. We all know that.” It rubbed me the wrong way because to me it felt like she was being dismissive of slavery and Jim Crow. I have never been a fan of Nikki Haley since. On the one hand, the US Civil War had to do with states’ rights and taxation. On the other, the rights some states were tying to maintain was the right to enslave black people as well as count them as less than a full person so slave owners would see less tax on them, so yeah, slavery was the easy answer Haley missed. On the one hand, the US Civil War had to do with states’ rights and taxation. On the other, the rights some states were tying to maintain was the right to enslave black people as well as count them as less than a full person so slave owners would see less tax on them, so yeah, slavery was the easy answer Haley missed. I agree with Alyssa that Haley is not a threat to democracy, but she’s also an indictment on American education and doesn’t disprove the dumb American stereotype internationally.
