The last time there was a domestic political crisis of this magnitude was the lead up to the civil war( 1850s). So obviously no one alive now had that experience.
The assumed peaceful transfer of power has created so many people who took all things for granted. It's part of why so many people don't vote. They didn't need to.

I am listening to her book right now. She and I are polar opposites politically but I have more respect for her than just about anyone on this planet. The 2-party system is the best system out there, except for 3+ party systems. 1 and 2 party systems both suck. 1-party system just sucks worse. Ranked choice voting is a start to a better outcome. Term limits for House/Senate/SCOTUS/etc. It's easy to tell these would be helpful to end gridlock counting the number of elected officials who are against these concepts. I would also consider HALVING the paychecks of elected officials, and after their term is over/losing an election, the constituents vote again to determine if the person gets the other half of the income, 50% of the remaining income, or nothing else. Undeserved income goes into the next election's matching funds coffer. Would make representatives a bit more representative, I think. Couldn't hurt to try, anyway.
Since the Iraq war of which I am a veteran, I have been leary of the Cheney name. I was a lifetime republican until 2016. I don't think I could ever vote for a republican again but what Liz Cheney did was truly amazing. She and Adam Kinzinger stood up to the most corrupt republican apparatus the US has ever seen and said NO. They put their careers on the line and held their ground on country over party and right versus wrong. Think about what that took to do as far as politicians go... noone else in the republican house or the senate would publicly support them and then went a far as to ostracize them, to bannish them from public service as republicans for speaking the truth. Of all the crimes and misdeeds that could ganrner such hatred, it was truth that infuriated the republican machine. Well, I can say that I am a die hard Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger fan from here on out.

We can all have differences and it's what supposedly made our two parties once work, now it's mainly extremists and "all or nothing". Okay, buying her book. I love listening to her speak. She's so intelligent, direct, no-nonsense. It gives me hope in our system that she, as a republican, exists and that she, in her position as an American icon, is still sounding the alarm and calling us to take action rather than bury our heads in the sand and hope it all works out somehow.

I just attended Liz’s lecture in Sarasota, Florida! She speaks with heart to make everyone aware how fragile our Democracy is. I took away from this brave woman an important message that 2024 is our only year to fight for a two party system, not a dictatorship.
The theatre at The Van Wezel was sold out for both time frames and she received several long standing ovations from most all Americans in attendance. Thank you Liz! 🙏

I could tell in the first few minutes of the interview what a humble person Liz Chaney is and her love of country is so obvious. Mad respect for Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. Her book was a good read. One of the passages that gave me the chills was that her father was watching that horrific violence unfold on television that day (J6) knowing his daughter was inside the Capitol. I can't even imagine what that must have felt like for him and everyone else who had a loved one in the building.
It enrages me to no end that those bastards STILL objected to the electoral votes after the Capitol was cleared and they reconvened. I will never forgive them, nor understand the insanity that has gripped the Republicans, especially in congress, because of this self-serving con man.

As Adam Kinzinger said, we can argue over our differences on policies only if Trump is defeated. Until then, we have to agree to stop him so democracy prevails.

Today, we let Trump to get reelected, for the sake of democracy, tomorrow majority will vote in another George Floyd, thanks to the precedent. Constitution was amended to avoid exactly the election of an insurrectionist, was it a mistake if the majority of electors, not even majority of voters, would vote for him?

I like Liz. I'm not sure I'd ever vote for her if she was to run...it would depend on what policies she advocated for. But I DEFINITELY like the fact that she can speak in full sentences and she can string several of them together to make a thought...a logical thought even!

I’ve never seen Liz so nervous than she was sitting on that panel stage even though she was greeted with a very warm welcome. As a life long liberal democrat - like Whoopi we recognize the importance of what she is doing and considers Liz a very important ally. I agree about what she said about the needed for reconstruction of the republic party. If only we could do away with the rich donors who have molded those in office to stop working for them, and instead govern for the country and the constituents who put them there.
