I saw the suit at the place it was made at in Ware UK, can’t remember the name but he made Spartacus armour and lots more. At the time they were supplying armour and weapons for Gladiator, I was buying the knitted mesh mail for under my plate armour. Those were the days, he even had a stunt horse who was so clever and lovely to fuss.
a masterpiece in character introduction. The POV, monitor glimpses, the reactions of the other actors and then the full reveal on an elevated platform. Brilliant.
Bro the way all of the cops are running to see wtf Robocop is, is wild. Like a bunch of overexcited children trying to get their hands on a brand new toy or video game consoles. I love this. Rest in peace to Miguel Ferrer.
This is an example of how movies are shown through the hard work and determination of special effects, like Alien, Terminator, Predator, Star Wars, and The Abyss, but now these days with CGI and AI, it makes movies more like low cost bootleg movies
I’ll say this for Bob Morton. Yes he used a dead Police Officer and yes he engineered a situation where he’d get a donor sooner rather than later but he did try to wipe their memory. He did seem to genuinely think of Robocop as an individual but also as his child in a warped kind of way. He didn’t think that Murphy would be alive in there. He thought it would avenge Police officers and help rather than torture a still living one trapped in that shell.
UMMM WRONG!. Dick Jones teamed with up with Clearance to create the out of control crime situation in Detroit so that OCP could essentially run the city.
80s and 90s were hell of a times for movies. So much original content was there. The lovable characters and stories were told. Less cgi and more practical effects were used. That used to be so real.
Brilliant Film, a true Classic and Masterpiece. Shame Robocop 2 wasn't great, and 3 well let's forget it. Peter Weller really shone in this role, and spare a thought for him, you should hear the backstory of how much body weight he lost every day in the blistering heat of Dallas during filming, 20 hour days, with a tiny budget. Verhoeven is a master Director, one of the best in the business.
I agree. I'm a sucker for stories of revenge and Murphy solving his own murder was just awesome for the story. The sequels lacked that drama. They didn't have Verhoeven again at the helm and the violence just wasn't as impact full as in the original. This film is also paced beautifully as there is not one wasted scene. Last but not least, Peter Weller is the best Robocop ever.
I met the late Miguel Ferrer once. He was playing with his band at some dive club on Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica. I think is was called Lizard Lounge.

Something that is usually never mentioned about the casting in this movie is Nancy Allen. I think that here she showed how good an actress she is. Her previous roles as sexy girl or femme fatale (Carrie, Dressed to kill...) didn't suggest that she could play an strong and charismatic woman; hence, Verhoeven broke her typecasting. Of course, all effects, full casting and story, are a masterpiece. But Lewis is also at the core of the movie
I like how they sold that scene with the cops running up to them to see ROBOCOP like they had never seen anything like it in their lives. Director Paul Verhoeven was meticulous about small details like that in his movies.
This movie was ahead of its time, pointing out the MIC grift. As Vice President Dick pointing out to Bob, ED-209 didn't even need to work. He had guaranteed foreign military sales, including spare parts and maintenance contracts. Bob's mistake was 3 fold: 1) he broke up a money train, 2) he made a product that worked, and 3) he pissed off the wrong guy (see #1)
The crazy thing is how accurate this department looks compared to the real life detroit police department. The stations looked like this, the DPD looked and acted like this, etc.
Still R.I.P. to Miguel Ferrer, son of José Ferrer, who certainly portrayed the BEST Cyrano (alongside the amazing Mala Powers) ever to grace the silver screen.
I wish Sage Parker's character Dr Tyler came back for the sequels instead of being replaced with 2 other actresses as Robocop's maintenance doctor, even though I did like Jill Hennessy's Dr. Lazarus.
35 years later and that gun holster leg is still cool as hell!
