This reminds me of the time last summer when I set up my grandmother’s dinner tray, walker, daily medications and respirator. My grandma has been dead since ‘96. Hopefully she’s playing that big ol’ randnet in the sky...
@@DmitriyK12Yes you can, this is a site that shows you who's online and how to connect www.dreamcastlive.net/games. There are also dedicated websites dedicated to Phantasy Star Online (PSO). You can either use Raspberry Pi to emulate a phone signal to connect over CAT5E to your home router, or get a more rare Dreamcast Ethernet input card. I have several friends at work and we all play PSO together on the original Dreamcast hardware in this manner.
wow guys great review and finaly I can say I've seen all the 64dd stuff and it was through the reviews also I subbed but for real how long did this all take
tyler ledbetter Thanks for the sub! Well the first reviews were quite some time ago. The years should be listed on the video. To answer your question, a good 5 years or so!
I remember when I first saw you guys, it was the first Zelda beta quest video you and rich did, for whatever reason, I just liked the way it was filmed at night and all that, no idea why, just made it more interesting. You guys know how to be funny, and make great videos, hell, there more entertaining then, what's his name, that sweden guy that yells constantly or some crap, I don't know, all I know is, you guys are AWSOME, and remember, StayHard4Games P.S. Do you have the Concorde Keys?
H4G Game Reviews oh, I also forgot to mention, on the beta quest, gold cart version, if you have a cheat that keeps you in the "beta instance" (when the hud is gone and you cant pause) and you go to kakariko village, and then to death mountain, you will be in the cut scene of thee gods, and if you climb up the mountain, you can find the blue god, and when you and Richey went to kokiri forest, and it froze with the music, if you use the cheat, "Appear in strange places" (witch is when you hold R going into a area that will freeze like how it did in the forest, you will appear in there, but be off the map and have to levitate over) and when you walk to the great deku tree, the green god will be there also. now if you try this at greudo vally, you WILL end up in the part of the cut scene when you see the red god, but you will be stuck, again, so use the hold R cheat, BUT, since in the cut scene it had a lot of fog, you can barley see yourself, so I got no idea what that one has, either way, it would be awesome if you guys went and made a vid of thoughs 2, hears the cods for the cheats Appear in Strange Places (Hold R when entering Kokiri forest, then levitate to the map) D01C84B5 0010 8111B936 0001 Beta Interface always on (Keeps you in "beta mode" where and when the hud would appear again, like in Kakariko village, so use this there and go to death mountain, and maybe other places....) 8011B4B9 00FF 8011B92F 00?? these should be used on the V1.0, Gold cart, if they don't work, let me knowAnyways, Stay Hard4Games
I actually prefer those small keyboards over such with the standard size that's also used for Dreamcast keyboard that we know over here. In Japan, there's also a small variant, similar in size to the Randnet keyboard... but that's a collector's item today. Anyway, nice piece of gaming history there.
Great video! If this had been released in the West I bet a lotta boys would have bought it ;) The keyboard does have that gamer look to it though with the different coloured keycaps.
Now I know that keyboard and mouse peripherals do exist for the Nintendo 64, but do you think Microsoft would've made the Windows 95, NT 4.0, 98, 2000 and/or ME operating systems available for use on the N64?
This is pretty interesting! On a semi-related note, I've read about this new product by StoneAgeGamer which is going to perform very similarly to this. It's basically a cart for the N64 with a built in modem that allows you to browse the real internet. I wonder if the mouse and keyboard will be compatible with that?
TheRoboio Well fuck me sideways, I just went to go pull up the link for its product page, and it says it was an April fools joke. Oops! (sorry for getting your hopes up guys)
I wonder if you could have the rand net dial into a computer's ip then you could run your own server. I know on the game cube using phantasy star online your able to dial into your own server which can allow you to emulate any game on that console.
DubiousGamingOnline I would imagine SOME sort of access is possible if the person doing it knew what they were doing. Unfortunately I have no idea....I also think the fan base for this thing is soo small that nobody has really bothered. :(
Cool video guys! There seems to be a movement to revive old internet servers for games. Do you know if there may be something like this for the N64 or any other defunct system?
dschult3 Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. Unfortunately, I really doubt randnet will ever be functional again. Not enough people really care to fund to re-create the servers. I know it exists for the Dreamcast though.
The cartridge is a modem cart. The mouse was only included on Mario Artist Paint Studio. Several games are compatible with the mouse. The N64 Keyboard is only compatible with the Randnet disk. There is another unique cart called the capture cart, which was included with the Mario Artist Talent Studio.
+Hard4Games So if you had dial-up could you use the modem to get the N64 online? Does it have a browser? I'm assuming it can't connect to your WiFi, but what if you connected it to your phone jack directly?
Hard4Games I know Jack and Shit about the devil's magiks, but you should reach out to other gamers or tech guys. Could make a cool video, browsing the internet using N64 and whatever browser it has on it...
hmmm... tasty.... so many possibilities cant that development unit you recently got potentially help people make new games? would be crazy if this all got reverse engineered and new games came out on 64dd, host them on an online store on your own replacement network :} nintendo would probably think its a bit cheeky though hahaha
Torrie Starfrost Randnet was pretty short lived, unfortunately. I wish you could browse the disk a bit offline, but it's impossible to my understanding. -Tony
noah bonvissuto It is probably possible, but it would require someone dedicated to re-create the server. This will probably never happen considering there isn't even an N64DD emulator available. Point being, not enough people care to try.
H4G Game Reviews Though someone might do something with Randnet... as the Randnet domain has been bought by someone who may be doing something right now... (not me)

My grandma has been dead since ‘96. Hopefully she’s playing that big ol’ randnet in the sky...
What happened to the Randnet?
I'm surprised we haven't figured out how to make private servers for Randnet yet
I will say that you would probably need to push Alt+Cont+Backspace to "soft reset" your N64DD.
love hearing how you guys just hang out
and you can still play the dreamcast online on private servers! =) Nice handful of games too.
Hmmm, really; it is currently 2018, can you or I still play old consoles online on private servers !?

Woot! Got the keyboard!
Five seconds in and there's already a joke from the Simpsons... *Boy! This is gonna be a good one!*
Love the intro and such an amazing episode. Keep it up guys!
TheJRCade Rock on! Thank you.
Looks cool, shame it does not with with any games. It would have been very interesting if it had been compatible with even some games
Rockythefishman Sure would have, I bet people would have appreciated keyboard and mouse support for Starcraft 64
In Japan they got a very different style of keyboard for DC.
Now go review the Japanese Dreamcast keyboard and typing of the dead bundle.
Great video boys!
man all this vintage n64dd stuff is insane! just need ura Zelda...
I had no idea n64 had Internet access

love the new intro!
PalmdaleBombs Thank you, we're gonna keep improving it!
H4G Game Reviews I honestly love your guy's humor... That's what makes you guys very enjoyable to watch...
I want a 64DD so bad. But they are so damn expensive.
Such a damn shame. The N64 had such potential. I wish we could know exactly why it didn't work out.
Mainly because it was released so late in the console's lifespan, and it was also available through mail order.
I guess you finally got the last key piece to your collection
Thomas Ramasama This was a borrowed item, but we are very happy to review it.

The Dreamcast one looks like an Amiga keyboard
the sharpie writing on the keyboard is a smack in the face to collectors

The "separate recorded section" sounds very 'adult only'
3:35 CANT CONNECT "YET" oh and where can I buy that 64dd randnet keyboard?
you could make this work again if you updated the ip in the rom and someone made a server software that randnet could to connect to
***** Unfortunately, that is far far beyond my capabilities. Maybe someone will do it someday.
Hard4Games I'd be happy to try it... just would need some time to look into it.

"The last piece of 64dd"
*yeah right*
Can that keyboard and mousse used for first person shooters like Golden eye, doom 64, duke nukem 64 ect.
Without Ctrl+Alt+Delete, how are you supposed to open the N64's task manager? It's like Nintendo didn't even think ahead
***** Nintendo is just tripping over themselves with soft-reset failure.
TAB is the elixir rained down from valhalla.
Orion Ake John and I used to TAB it pretty hardcore as a joke. To be fair I actually prefer it to diet coke.
This intrigues me, what were all of those devices for the N64?

Unfortunately the system looks for the specific Randnet server. Since the server no longer exists, it is unable to connect to anything.

Anyway to fake the code it would receive? Make it think it connected, but really just connecting to your ISP?
I'm not technically savvy enough to answer that unfortunately! :(

Didn't the 64DD originally come with a transparent black N64?
Good detail! The non-subscription service/retail version had a transparent black N64. You're absolutely correct.

***** People love random keyboards, what can we say?
***** Actually, Skyler744 and MoreSkyler774 are the same person. ;)
Interesting. Also interesting is that Japan seems to always be ahead of us technology -wise. Look at what they did with the Sateliview.
no they're not more advanced, they just actually implement new idea's rather than keeping them locked away in the private domain
