Awesome video, I work in the oldest running coal mine in Australia, 131 yrs old this year, and is awesome walking around in there and seeing dozens of the old original wooden mine carts that were pushed on the rails and all the old equipment used, amazing bit of history
Onya Ronny and Gang :) this was a fantastic series :) It's was nice to catch up with you yesterday at the Caravan and Camper Megastore/Patriot Campers Open Day Ronny :) Cheers, Don (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)
Gorgeous scenery as usual. Thanks for not being formulaic and hyping up the serious nature of the damage with elevated music and hyperbole. Handle it like a normal man, this is the situation, this is how I solve it. Thanks for sharing.
Ronny - thoroughly impressed with theis series and it was really inspiring to see SA get put on display in this way. Many tourism programs will only show a snippet or a 15-minute feature, but I feel these 6-part series really allowed myself as a viewer, to get lost in the adventure with your crew. As a South Aussie, I've still not been to the Flinders Ranges, but only 3-weeks ago bought our first 4x4 and so no doubt this will be on the list (though we may opt for some of the more moderate tracks until we find out feet). I've been educating myself as much as possible and loading up on a lot of your older vids, along with some of the more popular guys doing their shows out there, and I'm really grateful that there is so much honest information out there that you guys are willing to share with the public. I missed out catching you and the crew at the recent 4x4/Camping show in rads, but will be sure to put the next one in the calendar. Keep the videos coming, love it!
P.S. I should add my first mods were all recovery and based on safety: snatch straps, bridle, soft-shackles, dampener, pressure gauge and compressor, tred pros, and the rear tow-bar winch point (your tow-ball warning vids were heard loud and clear). My wife is in control of the first-aid kit and after all that I still had a little left over for some nice goodies for extra storage and light. But I want to stress how much your videos on safety and recovery have resonated with an inexperienced 4x4er like myself. While it may sound naive, I at least feel I have much more of a clue on what to do when I get off-road, compared to those who just drive a new fourbie out the showroom with having given a thought to researching the process.
Great series Ronnie. Thanks Amalia for all your great work. Well there WERE heaps of bats sleeping. I think you woke them up. I can’t wait until you get rid of the trailer.........
What a top series! Lucky you made it home on one wheel drive. Good end result but i can imagine how it put a damper on the trip for everyone. Loved this series especially as i'm heading to the Flinders Ranges at Easter for the first time and i'm pumped. Keep'em coming Ronny!!
Awesome vid series again! Thanks for showing us around aussie land! Get Torbin a new sticker for inside his drivers door... still has the old Western Australia sticker!
Thanks Ronny for a great series and yes SA is great with tough people and wildlife doing it tough in this drought. Its now February and still no real rain in sight.
You all prolly dont care but does anyone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Fabian Winston thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hey Ronny, I just came across your channel. I'm adventure bike rider researching the Flinders and this series was GOLD. Loved the cinematography.... Really great stuff. Loved your drone work. PS. Have you seen the Skydio drones? I've got one in Aus and they rock!
Hi Ronny it's a bugger limping home I went from Queensland down to Victoria on a front diff and I was crapping my self all the way home, towing a trailer would have been a major stress event, but hay that's part of the fun when 4x4ing in Australia, it's not just the place you go it's the hole trip the good and bad bits make each trip a fun
Do you take any safety precautions when entering a deserted mine like that? For example, I'd say to always leave someone outside in case of emergency, he/she can seek assistance. Maybe also take water/food packet with when entering for survival in case.
Ronny - after this series and the other video talking about how you drove home with it broken and then fixing the axle.... if you were to do it the same again, would you? after gaining "special permission" to tow the trailer on the track, next time would you leave it behind for the drive? interesting to hear your thoughts
Ronny. Great show honest show great crew. The hole to much speed an yes I'm blaming the HOLE an weight all coming down on one spot up a hill. Always a good show.. U could fit a pootrol diff under the rear they realy are unbrakeble
After finding a couple of dismembered kangaroo in an abandon mine, I was expecting Mick Taylor to be waiting to greet the happy travelers as they exited the shaft...
You need to get rabies shots everytime you're struck by a bat, especially if it's in the eye or if it breaks the skin. But seeing that this happened more than a year ago, you are safe, as that is the maximum incubation period for rabies. Just a safety tip from a longtime follower.
Thought that too but I'm pretty sure seeing as the shaft is inside the axle, I'm pretty sure it was just a bit of rock(s) that shot out from the bottom of the tire as it landed.
So Project Black can now be turfed for a "day snacks and water" cabinet such that the trailer can stay behind in future. What is in that trailer that required it to be dragged to the mine? Wondering if understanding of the "no trailers" rules has occurred. You were fortunate Torbs didn't damage his rig dragging your brick trailer. I'd suggest the property owner was not amused.
Great series as always. The 79 is the strongest there is but towing extra 2 tonne over rough 4wd too much extra load on any vehicle. Eventually something gotta give.
Hey ronny you should have parked her up and jumped in one of the other guys vehicle and saved your vehicle to see the mine. Harsh country in summer guys hope you had plenty of water anyway great vid guys
The worse part of any noise or breakage is the not knowing and wanting to rip it down and find out why ! , good to see you at the Patriot launch to mate .
The mine was well and truly worth the effort . In hindsight maybe you should have left the trailer behind before going to the mine , all that extra strain on the diff but i suppose it would have let go sometime :-)
Dunk O remove the broken cv and drive with the locker on . Don’t seek mechanical advice from this Chanel. Trust me , many things they say are way off the mark . ( diesel mechanic 35 years experience)
Ive wondered the same, I reckon Torben is a like a feral pest exterminator (modifed ep 1, lots of lights and high powered rifle with lots of precision sights)
Yes, but i don’t think fruit flies are the problem. It’s probably because of more serious pests that may be on fruits and food. If the quarantine has any use is a different subject though. Airplanes come and go by the thousands every hour all around the world, so if lack of quarantine would be an issue, it would have been proven long time ago.
I vote against ditching the trailer. Ronny’s channel is more about the Australian outback experience rather than hardcore 4WD. The trailer adds to the experience by having good camps and testing products. For hardcore 4WD (get bogged, unbog, repeat) we have the 4WD Action channel.
It's a cool trailer, I like it and I tow an off road trailer myself, but, I reckon steep tracks with wombat holes are always a concern where extra weight is involved. The weight of the trailer is so much more up hill than along the flat. You only have to push a car to know that. It's easy to push a car on a flat road, but try pushing it up even a slight incline. Those Flinders tracks are steep. Keep the trailer.......in camp.
Dead kangaroos everywhere in Australia.. The road trains run hundreds of them to death every night. One more or less dead kangaroo, what does it matter. :-)

How heavy is Toyota and trailer (kg)?
Combined I’d say 4-4.5t
Why take the trailer in the first place? Camping area open and safe.
That trailer needs to be dipped in oil! It's creaking like an old door hinge!
Worst case scenario you could of got it fixed at Port Augusta. Shame you didn’t have more time because there’s heaps to see up there.
Why didn’t Wayne or Torbin tow the trailer , it would of saved some stress on your vehicle
What do Wayne and Torben do for a crust? Do they just work normal jobs and take leave for these trips?
Ive wondered the same, I reckon Torben is a like a feral pest exterminator (modifed ep 1, lots of lights and high powered rifle with lots of precision sights)
I think Torben's a sparky. Hence money's no object! Hah ha.
Better question is having all this fee time
You need to go through an inspection when you go from state to state?
Generally only for fruit and vegetables. fruit fly can be a problem
Did you end up getting your front shaft out after you left the boys in Arkaroola?
It was the rear half shaft. There is a video just on it
