We stayed at Arkaroola about 25yrs ago and it, and The Flinders in general, is still one of the most majestic places we’ve ever seen (and that includes internationally)! We even drove all day trips out from Arkaroola in my “VN Holden Commodore”! It was the only sedan going up & over all those ridges, everything else was 4WD’s...
I love the Flinders Ranges Ronny and this series is great. I have spent lots of time camping there and it is one of my favourite locations. Lucky I'm a South Australian so it's relatively near. You've commented on the drought but even with more rain, it rarely gets much greener. The plants are well adapted to the arid climate and tend to be a grey-green in colour. Most waterholes are almost always dry or stagnant. Also a minor point, if you're in Arcaroola you've left the Flinders Ranges and you're now in the Gammon Ranges.
Stunning scenery. There are parts of it that look just like the Kimberly. We visited a gorge really close to Adelaide (the name escapes me right now) but if I didn't know better, I would have put money on it being somewhere in the Kimberley.
We have blacktop roads around my area here in Indiana USA that are as rough or rougher as the tracks you travel on. Makes me feel like I'm riding along with you.

@@tinatpasselepoivre Be nice if you could buy a 79 without having to spend 50k on it after it leaves the factory just to make it a decent car... and then it still breaks.
Snook true. Howerver this 79 is getting beat to shit (it is his work tool). I think it doesn't need "50k in upgrade" if you don't use it so intensivly. Plus it is a very niche vehicule for a niche market (compared to Toyota global sale). Hence the high price point for a very basic vehicule in terms of luxury. Personaly I'm using à Citroën C15 "Dangel" (ie 4*4) to great sucess :) cost me 1500€
tinatpasselepoivre 50k was exaggerated but you do need to drop 20-30 to get an acceptable car, suddenly you hit 100k. They don’t even come with aircon and basic essentials they are add ons that all add up!
Another great episode. I am assuming viewers know people dont usually go to the Flinders Ranges from November thru to March - too hot as shown by Ronny. But then from April to October there are a lot a tourists and vehicles. Better without the crowds!
Brilliant video again Ronny . Really good series this Flinders Ranges one . But it has to be said . Harsh words were uttered in this household for leaving us on such a "cliff hanger" . LOL . Along with " I can't believe he's going to make us wait another week ! " . The other half is not best pleased LOL Fattrucker P.S. Tongue in cheek of course Ronny . Avid followers from some of the earlier days .
Hey Ronny! I just want to thank you for all your knowledge! I learned a lot from you and I hope to be one day in Australia with my own car! All the best from Luxembourg! P
Great trip , those Flinders Ranges are awesome , pity you broke your half shaft , towing the trailer , all that strain on one wheel was too much . Can't wait to see the fix next episode :-)
You should do a mud bog recovery vid, I’m always getting bogged in mud and don’t know how to get out other than pulling myself out with another 4x4 If you have already done a vid on mud bogs can ya send me the link please, thanks
Because the locker was engaged, all torque (100%) was taken by the driver side axle when the weight of the vehicle lurched over on to that side. Not helped of course by the anchor dragged behind (trailer). Because the cruisers have such poor flex and lack of suspension articulation, it is almost mandatory to engage the diff lock to get anywhere, therefor there will be instances where drive torque will be experienced by one axle only, as the weight transfers from side to side and front to rear.
Awesome series, really enjoying it. Heading to the Bash in July and will be heading home through the Flinders and will be certainly checking out these stations. Are you still in Willow Springs Station in this episode?
The engine idle RPM is increased to compensate for the A/C compressor load. Without the higher RPM, the engine would stall at idle with the compressor ON. The higher RPM allows the vehicle to move faster which causes less control descending. Just another way of saying what BiGfiEdLeRBitcHes said.
Filming and such doubles the time it takes to get anywhere. One of the trade-offs for making these videos is they often arrive to campsites well after dark.
Err when the air con is on the compressor is on. More load on engine. Notice at idle your revs will drop. Turn your air con on to slow your engine racing away. Beneficial to autos especially smaller engines on long decents etc.
On most diesels, the idle is set to kick up a couple of hundred RPM to compensate for the extra drag. Whether is goes up or down, the last thing you need when crawling on a hill is the idle doing it's own thing.
Lol im only used to old diesels pure mechanical. As soon as i posted i thought there must be a function that raises the ifle.. lol must be a modern thing
Nope old diesels have it as well A little vacume solenoid or electric soliniod on on the fuel pump Alot of them fail though so yours has prob got it just not working
26:00 Ronnie, that's a seriously abused tire in the trailer. I don't think I've ever seen that kind of asymmetrical wear on a tire where there weren't bad suspension / steering components. Is there a story behind it?
I know you are on your next trp now could get the boy's to try out the cyclone air head too see if they filter out more dust? Congratulations on 200 000 💥
Why is it that Land Rover are the only manufacturer that states your towing capacity is lower when towing off-road? Do the they know something about off roading that the others don’t? Defender towing - braked trailer, on road 3500kg, off road 1000kg.
Rear end setup has a major problem or those rear axles are just pain garbage.....it's just a matter of time until it happens again. Also Flinders looks amazing
purplecat Nothing wrong with any Landcruiser axles mate. The problem is those trucks are loaded to the extreme and that trailer is just a bad idea all around. I would be interested to know the weight of his truck loaded on day 1 of a big trip etc. Must be ridiculously heavy
Just a 105 with 1hd Just using by centres Don't want any Nissan diff housings, chassis, axles or body/interior Has only broken 2 axles in his life Not really that bad considering what he does with his car
I like your trailer but hauling it up steep slopes with wheels off the ground really has to strain the axle that is driving. Bigger wheels puts more torque pressure on the drive train as well. Anyway, this is your best series yet, really loving it. The video is top class, but for those who've never been there, the scenery is far better in real life.
Best start to a Sunday. This series has been great.
or here to finish a saturday! ;)

Ive enjoyed this series a ton Ronny and Team. It feels like im there actually...thats super cool. You do real work and it shows big time .
Thanks for the feedback mate much appreciated
you deserve each and every one of your subscribers, greetings from Germany, formerly NewZealand. A big thank you for all your work mate!!!
This part of the video 14:00 looks just like the Karoo Swartberg Mountain Range South Africa. WOW!! Amazing video Guys
brilliant series, bugger with the breakage ( I guess this is why the landowner doesn't let trailers on most tracks )
Always great stuff ! Thank you from Arizona, USA!!!
I liked Torbin’s tip about turning the air conditioning off when going down a steep decline..👍👍👍
i couldn't quite understand what happens when it's turned on on a hill descent?
Michael Tolhurst
The engine revs will pick up.
That's such a cool idea!
I do the opposite. A/c kicking in adds engine braking and it most definitely slows my cruiser down significantly compared to not running a/c at all
Sunday morning...at work , lunch break entertainment ! , thanks Ronny ;)
Amazing series. Your a legend Ronny
Gotta love waking up to land cruisers in the bush.
Again awsome and cheers to the whole crew. Cant wait to get to the flinders.......

Ah man I shouldn't have read the comments, I missed that video and I was like :0 at that cliffhanger ending until this comment haha
Been wondering what trail the axle shaft broke on
Great video Ronny and the team sorry to hear the crunch noise.
Time to get that 105 Series like I have.... 20 years old and you would love to do a review on it. See you at 2019 Camp Cobark as a Patreon.
8:30 why air conditioning off? Because it starts the air con compressor, but what does that do??
ashystyle air con on picks up the idle speed. Turning it off helps to control speed, you don't wanna race down steep grades!
ashystyle ... So long story short ...!!! You start rolling down the hill quicker ...!! Which is what you don't want ...!!!!
The engine idle RPM is increased to compensate for the A/C compressor load. Without the higher RPM, the engine would stall at idle with the compressor ON. The higher RPM allows the vehicle to move faster which causes less control descending. Just another way of saying what

Got it. Obviously :)
No spares?! and it's unacceptable that you only have 200k subscribers....should be upwards of 800k with this kind of content!
is there much reception around flinders ?
What boots are those Ronny?
What is the thing with always arriving late at night at the camp site ?? is it Ronny's idea of having fun ???
Filming and such doubles the time it takes to get anywhere. One of the trade-offs for making these videos is they often arrive to campsites well after dark.
Hi Guys that's the sound you don't want, and they never happen in the local shopping center where you can get the bits easy.
Are those March Flies?

100% yer. The Flinders is a gr8 place BUT the Vic high country is totally epic in every way
