I could actually see a Sonic Rivals 3 have a plot like this. There’s a racing tournament and it focuses on how most prepare for the tournament. Sonic’s story would have him train his friends to prepare for the tournament. Either way it’d involve the cast thwarting Eggman’s attempts to sabotage the tournament.
@@eMorphized I didn’t play that game. But either way I could see them having Sonic’s story involve him helping his friends prepare for said tournament.
Current Nega explanation is that he is Eggman's descendant and he TRAVELED to the Sol Dimension. Nega's grand plan is to defeat his ancestor, Eggman, and then create a successful "take over the world" scheme to one up him in the past so he'll be taken seriously in the future. The island was transported back in time presumably because he needed Death Yard Zone (future launch Base) to launch his giant ship. The Rivals games were some of my first games in the series, so I have a soft spot for them

My favorite Sonic racing game is Sonic Riders. Yeah, there's a big learning curve when you first play it but holy hell is it fun when you know what you're doing. Great video btw!
I love this game and I still to this day play it on original hardware. It's really fun figuring out the best route through a track and duking it out wirelessly with a friend.
I've bought Sonic Rivals for my PSVita last week and i'm so disapointed by the lack of a "Last story". It was such a lost oportunity. But since i'm a big sonic fan wil check Sonic Rivals 2 now, hope they improved upon the first game.
One notable thing about Rush Adventure is that Eggman Nega states in reference to the Sol Dimension as "This dimension," rather than "My Dimension" or something similar. Not to mention Sega has stated since that Eggman Nega is Eggman's descendent from the future since then... so yeah, he's a Descent of Eggman.
Sonic Rivals was certainly fun nonetheless. So was Sonic Rivals 2 though the cards in 2 didn’t really have any significance to the story whatsoever. I guess the fun with it is you could get cards and trade them with people you hung out with when the game was out.
I still think this game and its sequel are underappreciated gems, and the rubberbanding is one of the reasons for that. This is a playstyle that excels with how you interact with the opponent, meaning they're a lot more fun when you have someone else to worry about. Being way ahead would give you less things to do, and when they do catch up you have to think of the best way to counter them. There's a lot of really interesting design in here, like being able to jump out of speedboosters to maintain all of its momentum in midair (jumps barely slow you down) and having items do different things whether you're in front or behind
My headcanon for the Neggman is that the Sol dimension is not only an alternate reality from the chaos dimension, but also in the future of that alternate world, hence why both Blaze and Robotnegg were shown separately as coming from both Silver's future and the Sol Dimension, and therefore making this Nega a different character than in Rush.
I made it to the end of the video and it was a good video. I heard that Sonic Rivals features a plot point where chao are being sacrificed to some fire demon. I didn't hear any mention of that plot point, so either it just wasn't mentioned or the plot point was actually in Sonic Rivals 2. Also, I honestly think that Sonic Rivals's concept of racing to the end has potential. I think a Sonic Rivals 3 or a spiritual successor to Sonic Rivals with all of the issues of Sonic Rivals ironed out could be a good game.
I have an idea for a rewrite of Sonic Rivals: The story will be divided into five different stories: Sonic Story Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Cream are at a festival. Suddenly, the ground starts to shake and it is followed by a flash of blinding light. When the light faded, Sonic spots a mysterious island that appeared seemingly out of nowhere. He and Tails decide to check it out. Upon arriving, Sonic and Tails stumble upon a shiny, orange diamond chunk. They then encounter a cute robot with sinister eyes that attacks Sonic. This leads to the first level which has Sonic racing the robot. (For each level in the Sonic Story, you will race against your opponent for a certain amount of time. If you are ahead of your opponent when the clock runs out, you win. You can play each level in story mode in easy, normal, or hard mode. How easy it would be to beat the rival depends on the difficulty level. You will need to beat every level in story mode in normal mode to unlock the final story. Yes, there is a final story in this rewrite.) After you beat the level, the robot shuts down and collapses. Tails then finds that the robot was powered by a card that has a picture of a sol emerald on it. Sonic notices that the light of the diamond chunk he and Tails obtained is pulsating. And the next thing Sonic and Tails realized, the card in Tails’s hand disintegrates and the sol emerald is now resting in Tails’s palm. The diamond chunk’s light pulsates some more and the robot regains consciousness. The robot’s eyes are no longer red and sinister. They are now green and friendly. The robot tells Sonic and Tails his name is Astro and he is from the alien robot race Diamondites. The island that Sonic and Tails are on is the Diamondites’ home Onyx Island. The Island is Angel Island’s Sol Dimension counterpart and the island, along with the Diamondites, was powered by the Master Emerald’s Sol Dimension counterpart the Sol Diamond. The diamond chunk that Sonic and Tails had was a piece of the Sol Diamond. Astro explained that a round man with a big mustache came to Onyx Island to take a picture of the Sol Diamond. But when the man flashed his camera, the Sol Diamond shattered to pieces knocking all of the Diamondites unconscious and warping Onyx Island into Sonic’s dimension. Sonic and Tails agree to help Astro restore the Sol Diamond and find the other Diamondites. Suddenly, Sonic gets a call from Amy urging him to come back to the festival and fast. Sonic, Tails, and Astro rush back to the festival where they are greeted by Eggman with a large pile of cards and a camera. Eggman flashes his camera and Tails is turned into a card. However, it does not affect Sonic because he was protected by the Sol Diamond chunk he was holding and it does not affect Astro because he is a robot. Eggman tells Sonic that he has turned everyone at the festival, including Amy and Cream, into cards to power the Diamondites placing them under his control. Astro tells Sonic that they need to free the Diamondites from Eggman’s control and soon or else the Diamondites will go insane and destroy the world. So Sonic and Astro set off to stop Eggman and save the day. For each of the next six levels you win, you obtain a card with a sol emerald from the Diamondite you defeated. You use the Sol Diamond chunk to free the sol emerald from its card prison and the Diamondite wakes up freed from Eggman’s control. After you have cleared seven levels, Sonic and Astro confront Eggman who is in a giant mech powered by multiple Diamondites. For the boss battle that follows, you need to land more hits on the boss than Astro. (The boss battles in the game will be more like the ones in Sonic Rush.) After the boss fight, Eggman escapes and Sonic and Astro free the Diamondites and save a third of the people from the festival along with Blaze. Blaze reveals to Sonic that the Eggman that they have been after was actually Eggman Nega in disguise. Eggman Nega was planning on stripping the Diamondites of the Sol Diamond and placing them under his control using people that were turned to cards so he can take over the Sol Dimension. Blaze discovered this and tried to stop Eggman Nega, but he captured her and turned her and the Sol Emeralds into cards. Knuckles Story Eggman has stolen the Master Emerald and turned it into a card. Knuckles sets off to get the Master Emerald back. The levels in Knuckles’s Story will be like that of the levels in Sonic’s story. Knuckles is accompanied by Gemrl on his adventure. For each of the seven levels you complete, Knuckles and Gemrl find a chunk of the Sol Diamond. They use the Sol Diamond chunks to free the animal critters from their card prisons and the defeated Diamondites wake up freed from Eggman’s control. After you have cleared seven levels, Knuckles and Gemrl confront Eggman who is in a giant mech powered by multiple Diamondites. Eggman tries to turn Knuckles into a card, but he couldn’t thanks to the pieces of the Sol Diamond in Knuckles’s possession. For the boss battle that follows, you need to land more hits on the boss than Gemrl. After the boss fight, Eggman escapes and Knuckles and Gemrl free the Diamondites and save a third of the people from the festival along with Tails, Amy, and Cream. Shadow Story Eggman has kidnapped Rouge and turned her into a card. He tells Shadow that he has to help him in exchange for Rouge’s safe return. So Shadow agrees to help the doctor. Along the way, Shadow crosses paths with Silver whose future world has been ravaged by Diamondites that had gone insane. The levels in the Shadow Story has you racing against Silver to the goal. After you have cleared seven levels, Shadow and Silver talk it out and confront Eggman who is in a giant mech powered by multiple Diamondites. Eggman tries to turn Shadow and Silver into cards, but he couldn’t because they have pieces of the Sol Diamond in their possession. For the boss battle that follows, you need to land more hits on the boss than Silver. After the boss fight, Eggman escapes and Shadow and Silver free the Diamondites and save a third of the people from the festival along with Rouge. Silver Story It is the Shadow Story except you play as Silver and it is from Silver’s perspective. Final Story For the final level, you play as Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, and Silver as they race against the clock to the end of the goal. They then find Nova, the leader of the Diamondite, unconscious. But then, Eggman Nega inserts the card containing the Master Emerald into Nova turning him into a Metal Overlord-esque beast. Sonic and Blaze use the Sol Emeralds to go super and attack. For the final boss, you need to land more hits on the boss than Blaze. After the boss battle, the Sol Diamond is restored, the Master Emerald is returned to normal, Nova is freed from Eggman Nega’s control, Onyx Island is brought back to the Sol Dimension, Blaze and the Diamondites return home, and the festivities of the festival resumed. Also, as a reward for finishing the story mode, you unlock not only Metal Sonic but also Astro, Blaze, and Gemrl.

I actually really like this game. Especially the boss theme. And MeTeOR BaSe Zone because a whole lot of SCIENTIFICALLY IMPOSSIBLE S____T is going on in and around that level.
5:12 - 5:35 SAJ-Man the Sonic Fan did a really in-depth analysis of Eggman Nega, which includes his explanation of this contradiction. The videos are a bit of a watch but they're great. You should check them out.
3:28 its easy he is born in the future but lives in the sol dimension! We can see that in Mario vs Sonic Olypic 2020 on one of the Info Cards. (The game was made by sega!)
Welp, time to ask this question again, what is rubberbanding? I hear it all the time when talking about racing and/or racing games and I'm so confused.
So... the point I wanna hammer home here is... *you ARE right, but this is my first non-licensed videogame ever and I'll defend it to death.* I wanna start this by clarifying: I mean no ill will towards Garrulous or Wiidude, I like their content and I want to see them thrive as content creators. So, here we go. 1.Izuka later clarified Eggman Nega and Silver are from the future while Blaze is from the Sol Dimension, and to bring that point home just look at Silv and Blaze interacting in Team Sonic Racing's story mode. Yeah, it sucks that they have to do these clarifications but then again we know how fucked up is the Sonic canon. 2. To answer the question of Knuckles breaking the Emerald fucking up the timeline in some form or another, yeah, probably, but as soon as he got the shards back it probably fixed the timeline again. 3. Yeah, Shadow helping Eggman IS really weird. He could have explained from the get go it was Nega who was the mastermind this time. 4. To answer the fact that Nega has multiple plans: either A. he thinks that by turning the world into a camera he'd restore his family's dignity which is batshit insane and a standard for the Robotnik lineage if you ask me or B. it's 2 alternate timelines/what-if scenarios. 5. Speaking of the soundtrack, a part of me is saying that you're wrong but it's my 4 year old self. Although after getting used to these tracks it's hard to find some alternatives. 6. For its time, Rivals was surely a gem gameplay and resolution wise. Hell I always find myself getting back to the low poly models because of their aestethic. I'm replaying it in this period and I still find it fun to play. Too bad I never found someone who also played it in my zone. 7. Look I never noticed this problem with the AI getting near you, but imo it sure as hell reassures that even in first place a player keeps going on their feet and doesn't slow down because there is always the risk of getting passed over. 8. Being first is a disadvantage only when you have to move those blocks to progress forwards, I'll admit creating alternative paths would have also been nice but progressing after moving these ain't hard especially if the rival is further away from you. In any case if you get passed by the rival you have easy ground to recover just after the block has been moved away with a homing attack or with an alternative shortcut that immediately covers the lost ground (the rail grounds in Forest Falls Act 2, the spring in the jack-in-the-box in Sky Park's levels, etc). 9. The fact that there were multiple paths that you'd take based on the obstacle interactions doesn't give the feeling of bad level design, there's so many pathways and the only bad times are when you're forced to actually not run. Also, you guys clearly hate the automatic running in Sonic games yet you also hate when you have to actually not run because the rival catches up to you? I'm not mad but this feels a bit weird to understand. 10. Eggman's horrible sprite in Rivals is barely noticeable on console and was fixed in Rivals 2 with a 3D model of the Eggmobile flying away after every boss fight. To be fair, Rivals is a bit overlooked and treated as something that just happened and that's it. This game holds a special place in my heart for getting me into videogames as a whole (alongside Bomberman Portable, Cars games on PSP and Spongebob: The Yellow Avenger), and its sequel imo fixed most of these issues (notably boss fights and a very varied battle mode with multiple rulesets) except for the AI, hell it even got a theme song with actual lyrics which is a short but damn catchy tune. My ideal Sonic game should always be a mix of Rivals and Rush (and maybe Speed Battle as well) not only because they are my first Sonic games but also because they had a (in my humble, horrible opinion because I know I'll get trashed for this wall of text) nice balance between speed and platforming, and Rush kinda did characters better than Rivals because there playing as Blaze gave a different vibe and there were special stages. All in all I just...feel really sad watching the game that introduced me to Sonic as a whole get beaten up considering it's not even really that talked about online. As of today considering I'm the only PSP user in my zone who does play Rivals (and probably not just in my zone but my country as well) I have a 93% completion of the game, I only need the cards from the multiplayer tournaments, almost same thing for Rivals 2 which has much harder requests for cards. I played both games to death and I never got tired of it because of the speed factor. I hope one day you get back to it, the both of you, and try to watch it from the viewpoint of 2006 rather than 2020 because this game was surely better than 06 when it dropped. That's all. Now excuse me but I'm going to go and watch the perfect Sonic racing game video.
The only reason for Eggman's descendant being Eggman Nega is if one of Eggman's children had a black partner. Meaning at least Nega has an N word pass.
Juuuuust a thought, but have you ever thought of fixing Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric? Y'know, making Knuckles competent, giving Shadow a better place in the story instead of him just...showing up, and making Lyric a better villain?
To answer the question of the day: All-Stars Transformed. If you mean pure Sonic & not a SEGA celebration, Riders. Transformed because the way the tracks incorporate the different forms gets really creative & the gameplay is very, very solid. Riders because the hard to master system is really fun when you get it down & the Babylon Rogues just make for a fun foil to Team Sonic.
6:23 - No mention of Scrap Yard Zone. Best music in the game! Anyway, never knew until you elaborated how bad the story is. However, I enjoyed this game in my teenage years when this came out. Felt surreal to have another Sonic Racing game on foot. And some of the camera angles for the PSP were phenomenal. Also, 6:28 - Boo! Emulator use! Your excuses are weak. And you knew I'd complain here 😛
@@Garrulous64 - What the heck is a PSP capture card? lol. The PSP already does video out (unless you have the very first edition of the PSP; then fair enough) =P
Made it to the end of the video, and what I think is, now I finally understand why people don't talk about this game or, if they do, why they don't care for it. I thought it was maybe just the same crowd who dislikes Sonic racing titles in general, or perhaps because no one played the PSP. And while those may yet be contributing factors, it is clear to me now that the game is just half-hearted and half-baked, an utter walk of shame.
4:35 Garrulous it might not matter to you, but if you play the final boss in shadow the hedgehog long enough eggman gives a special peice of dialogue where he actually reveals that shadow isnt a shadow abdroid and is actually the real shadow. It doesnt suprise ms that you missed that important plot point though as for some reason sega hid a peice of important lore way too deep into the boss fight.😅
My favourite is without a doubt Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. It's one of the best racing games I have played. Sonic Riders comes in a close second. I enjoy it for how it is and looks, I just prefer Transformed a little more.
If you think about it, SEGA’s reasoning that Sonic would destroy everyone in a race is technically justified here because Sonic canonically wins every race in this game.
Hey Sonic The Hedgehog fans out there, you guys should make a Sonic The Hedgehog fan game call: Sonic After The Second Sequel that takes place between the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic Mania and be on par, if not, better than before/after the sequel themselves!
Thanks for having me on man, this was a lot of fun!
And don't worry, I'll cash in that favor soon enough.
Hell yeah dude
I am scared for you Garrulous

Also me: It the concept isn't it °- °
"There is so much emphesis on ro-"
Good.
I know that the game has it's flaws but honestly both Rivals games are my favorite Sonic games.
when that discord sound effect wen off, i thought I left a vc so secret even I didn't know I was in it.
I actually really like this game.
Especially the boss theme.
And MeTeOR BaSe Zone because a whole lot of SCIENTIFICALLY IMPOSSIBLE S____T is going on in and around that level.
Yes you did sonic rivals thank you!! Oh and btw the rubber band is not that bad for me since I've played sonic rivals and rivals 2 over 500 times.
sonic rivals is the first sonic game i ever played my first sonic character is sliver i thought he was so cool when i was a kid
5:12 - 5:35 SAJ-Man the Sonic Fan did a really in-depth analysis of Eggman Nega, which includes his explanation of this contradiction. The videos are a bit of a watch but they're great. You should check them out.
Great job as always! Also I was just wondering what you used to emulate the game because I would like to try it out for myself.
3:34 LOL 😂🤣
1:58-2:09
Soooo Sonic can't hold back for his friends but he will with Mario? Man, Sonic really IS a dingus!
I’m happy at the mere mention of classic collection
Amazing thumbnail Dylan
Noice vid there
Edit:I Did Not Se My Name On The Five Dollar Support ):
When did you sign up
3:28 its easy he is born in the future but lives in the sol dimension! We can see that in Mario vs Sonic Olypic 2020 on one of the Info Cards. (The game was made by sega!)
i love sonic rivals, it was my first sonic game :D
I would love to see a Classic Collection video.
When I got a good look at eggman in the boss machines I thought he looked like AOSTH robotnik.
Welp, time to ask this question again, what is rubberbanding? I hear it all the time when talking about racing and/or racing games and I'm so confused.
It's when the computer controlled characters are brought closer to the player if they're too far behind if they can't catch up on their own.
@@Garrulous64 ohhhhh!!! Thank you!!! (Also holy crud, a reply from the legend himself. I feel honored!)
So... the point I wanna hammer home here is...
I mean, he is called Eggman Nega after all ;)
These are the most entertaining Sonic Game reviews I've seen in a while, what the [h e c c]
My favorite Sonic character is Eggman N-
*YOU NEED AN N-WORD PASS TO COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE.*
As bad as this game is looking at it now, funnily enough it's the only sonic game I have any real nostalgia for.
Sonic RIvals 2 Review when?
No we realllly need that video on your take of a boost raceing game
Soon
I grew up with sonic Rivals 2 and actually still have it. I really liked it and it’s WAY better than the first one.
Juuuuust a thought, but have you ever thought of fixing Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric? Y'know, making Knuckles competent, giving Shadow a better place in the story instead of him just...showing up, and making Lyric a better villain?
God i can't wait for the sonic rivals 2 review.
Eggman Nega just really likes uno
Made it to the end of the video, it was really good!
4:31 you got that backwards, though? Eggman was the one who got manipulated by Shadow.
And you knew I'd complain here 😛
I'm not buying a PSP capture card just for this and Rivals 2, that's a waste of money :P
@@Garrulous64 - What the heck is a PSP capture card? lol. The PSP already does video out (unless you have the very first edition of the PSP; then fair enough) =P
I'll have to figure out which one i've got. That's really weird i wouldn't have expected it to be able to do that
They really need to make another Riders game
He got fired from sega for trying to make a good sonic game?
Well... That's true
If you try to make a good game then you get fired
Sonic rivals was my childhood
My Instincts:HE IS SATAN HE HAS INSULTED MY CHILDHOOD HE MUST PERISH!!!!!!
My Brain:bro chill he has a point...
Me: ;_;
Basically me with the 1990s kids. Why you may ask?
I am a 2010s kid -_-
Imagine if Wiidude83 actually didn't appear for the rest of the video after Rivals was unveiled.
That'd be a great gag
12:02 Wow! I can play this online! Completely legally too I hope.
Wait a second.... Onic island?
**M80 Marc intensifies**
This crossover was unexpected, but not unwelcome.
So when are we going to get a video on Sonic Rivals 2?
I really hope that Sonic Rivals 2 is to Sonic Rivals what Sonic Drift 2 is to Sonic Drift.
Garroulous64: Maybe I should have let him play Sonic Mania
WiiDude83: Wait until July 2021 and I will
Ahhh, Silver's CANON debut.
4:35
Garrulous it might not matter to you, but if you play the final boss in shadow the hedgehog long enough eggman gives a special peice of dialogue where he actually reveals that shadow isnt a shadow abdroid and is actually the real shadow. It doesnt suprise ms that you missed that important plot point though as for some reason sega hid a peice of important lore way too deep into the boss fight.😅
It's weird how this game doesn't have voice acting but sonic rivals 2 does.
My favourite is without a doubt Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. It's one of the best racing games I have played.
Sonic Riders comes in a close second. I enjoy it for how it is and looks, I just prefer Transformed a little more.
i dreamed for more good sonic games in the future once i played sonic colors wii again this year
Moral of the story: git gud
Don’t you mean... THE CEO OF RACISM?!
HEY GARRULOUS.
how do i get mods working for robo blast 2? i cant figure it out.
will there be more sonic gen rewriten?? i want to hear more of it please dont let it die
Can you please review sonic classic collection? Its my favorite sonic collection game😁
Ooohh yessss
Really love that collection
i liked rivals; it was fun
QOTD: Gonna have to go with Sonic Riders
Wait but where can I get the Rivals games for PC though and do they have controller support 👀
You can use ppsspp
Very good psp emulator and does have controller support
@@AlexisLMAO Omg thank you! I'll look into that. I'm sure there are tutorials somewhere that can show me where to obtain the games?
Aw yeah Race to Win
2006 sure was...a year, alright.
QOTD: I have only played one, that being Team Sonic Racing (Because I only own a Switch.)
Finally
Another review
Finished both Rivals games only recently and oh my Lord the rubber banding was just too much.
Awful games and I don't intend to play them ever again.
You still have to do Sonic Rivals 2, good luck
for the question, SA2
I'm at the end. Still got to play my copy on the Vita.
holy curd its wiidude
I have been looking for you
for years
I just gotta ask
where did your sonic bosses video go?
If you think about it, SEGA’s reasoning that Sonic would destroy everyone in a race is technically justified here because Sonic canonically wins every race in this game.
We should not be excusing it, they're not making the most out of their IP.
Real gamers were here before the video was called “Sonic Rivals Doesn’t Make Sense”
TH-cam's algorithm also doesn't make sense
@@Garrulous64
Amen to that
Hey Sonic The Hedgehog fans out there, you guys should make a Sonic The Hedgehog fan game call: Sonic After The Second Sequel that takes place between the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic Mania and be on par, if not, better than before/after the sequel themselves!
