Yep, I was in 'Nam. Served under Col. James "Tough-as-Nails" Braddock and Col. Samuel "No-Nonsense" Trautman. My platoon commander? None other than John "Don’t-Mess-With-Me" Rambo himself. My OC was Col. Kirby, and his second-in-command was John "Muscle-Mountain" Matrix. We even did some secret missions in South America back in '87.
A cabinet minister and his aide vanished, so naturally, we got the call. Our rescue team was led by Ssgt. Dillon, with Dutch as the head honcho. Dutch and I were the only ones who made it out. That's all I can say - gotta keep some mystery alive, right?

I was proud to serve the county from Day one and 18 years in I’m still proud to serve the county and be British. No matter how society is and reacts, it’s important to stick to your morals.

Yes roger that, it’s probably one of the major things that gos unseen “family life/relationships”.
Im on it, just put it in my notes to the top of the list. I’ll created next.
In short, it is such a different set up to what your civilian counterparts will have “family life”. When you step forward to serve they “your family” technically serve with you in a way.
We are married 11 years this year and together about 13/14. So pretty much the just shy of the length of my career so far. It can be tough at times but still going strong. So very possible when both parties are committed.
I’ll get something more detailed knocked up into a video. Like I said it’s in the top of my list now. I do have some pre-recorded fitness ones that just need editing but the family one will be the next for shooting 🎥

I can give you a video on joining up later in life in general. I can touch slightly on the reserves as I used to deliver their phase 2 Infantry training at Catterick. When it comes to life in the reserves, that’s something I’m unfortunately not fully clued up on and can just give my opinion on.
Family life, I’m working on a regular service route video on this topic. I’ll either slide the “reserve side” into it or leave it for the reserve video.

@LukedJohnston thanks a lot mate👍🏼 I joined the regs back in 2009 but left and I've regretted it ever since. As I've got older I've always wondered what would have been and due to family commitments, work and age I can't go back into the regs so I'm just looking for advice on how hard it'll be to juggle family life with the reserves.

@jlf4698 It all just depends how much you want to show up for. Reserves work pretty much 1 weekend a month, 1800 - 2130 tuesday nights and a 2 week camp once a year, now there are also various courses you can do aswell. As far as commitments go most units don't care just show up to what you can, from the csm to the oc to the newest pte everyone has there own civilian life which should go first.
Hardest thing about reserve training is getting time of for basic training. Your mod 1 and 2 takes 2 weeks mod 3 is 2 weeks and cic is 2 weeks.

    over fed for 8 years,
abused by some people (not relatives) for a few months.
Now, I'm 20, but I got no idea how tf I'm supposed to get my life together at this point. I got no idea how to face the music of socialising with people, losing weight, etc.

Like I said at the start of the video, service is not for everyone.
People will have varied experiences, as there are different units and roles throughout the Army with all different chains of command.
Leadership is a funny thing, there is no specific set way.
Some get it wrong and some get it right. Unfortunately it’s the ones at the bottom of the pyramid who are the ones mostly affected.
Yes it can go wrong at times but in my opinion and experience it has gone right more than it’s gone wrong. So yes, listen to other people’s experiences but don’t set up your own goals around 1 persons negative experience.
Regards to your performance currently, weight etc. Happy days, you’ve moved through the first step by acknowledging you have an issue and you need to sort it. It may seem like a simple step but that mental acknowledgment will now be your driving factor through your training regime.
If you don’t already run, start a couch to 5km. Don’t go running stupid miles on a heavier frame, we will just open the door to injuries which will lead to set backs.
A balance between gym work (resistance) and cardio is key to shedding weight. Highly recommend getting into functional training as it will set you up well for work in the Army, no matter what role you go for.
If you have some money, invest it into your self. With a membership, I recommend a cross fit box. (Gym). There is a sense of community and instructors there to help you and most importantly scale exercises back, to suit your experience. The advance it as you get better.
Your standard gym membership is also good but most of the machines arnt functional and your in there going it alone. So no one holding you to account and if you’re not sure how to train, it can be a nightmare.
20 is still young, so young. You don’t have to have life worked out by now! I turned 35 last year and I’m still working shit out lol

      @@Rangermedia Thanks for the advise.
I've taken some basic steps already like reducing the amount I eat by a lot. As a kid, my parents would feed me all the time as a way to just get rid of me and keep me distracted, so I was eating around 4,000 to 5,000 calories a day. Plus, the 12 years of bullying from school never helped. But I've reduced the amount I eat to around 1,000 - 1,500 calories per day, and I am even trying to go a few days by only eating dinners (I know to not starve myself, as that doesn't help).
For exercise, it's going to be difficult for me as I've been inactive my entire life, and weighing in a 140kg I can't really move. I plan to begin going out on runs but I am incredibly self conscious about how I look in public. I know I wont have the feeling once I've lost the weight, it's just something that's there for now.
And ye, what you said about gym machines not being functional is so true in my area.
I already went to my local gym earlier, and almost every machine is broken, so people obviously swarm the weights. So I ended up just leaving.
I thank you for taking the time to reply to me, as it does mentally help knowing someone can give advise on how to fix this mess of a life I've been given. I've already had it out with my parents for the over feeding, but they couldn't care less.
So again, I thank you for your reply.
