    I'm trying to make a large popcorn bowl blanket so ai need a lot of bobbles! I think my greatest challenge is getting them close together.
    My buddy take seats from your video were doing one of two additional passes to make the bobble larger! So many tutorials only do one purl row. Your deceases also look much neater. Thank you so much so showing the decreases across 3 4 AND 5 stitch bobbles. I have do many options now to practice and I feel more confident.

    Thank you for this video. Your method of finishing off the bobble by slipping two together , knit one and then pass over the slip stitches together is much simpler than the method in my pattern. My pattern says to slip two, knitwise, then slip one purlwise, then pass the first two slipped stitches over the purlwise slip stitch , then wrap the yarn around these stitches and tighten. this leaves a gap. I am almost finished my shawl project and now have to go back and tighten, somehow, those bobbles that are not tight enough. Live and Learn!

    G'day Norman! Thank you for this very enlightening tutorial video! The articles on your blog are always of very high didactic quality, but sometimes a video is worth a thousand words or pictures.
    Since you have shown here how to make bobbles that are 3, 4, and 5 stitches wide, I was wondering if it is possible to make smaller bobbles instead, with two stitches, or even a single one. If so, how? And do they look good? If there are satisfactory ways to knit smaller bobbles, would you consider creating an article about how to knit them on your blog? Or extending the original article on bobbles with this information?
    Thank you for your efforts with the blog and the channel, I wish you the best.

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, you could possibly go smaller but it probably wouldn't really look like a feature. Right now, I don't think I'll edit the article.

    Dear Norman, your youtube channel is the absolute best!
    I need to ask you:
    If I’m knitting a 5 st bobble (k1, p1, k1, p1, k1)
    what does “lift 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th st on right needle over first st and off right needle mean?
    Thank you!

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles  ปีที่แล้ว

      that#s the decrease for the last row. So, you kind of lift them over like a bind-off. You can also k5tog but that probably a bit cumbersome :P

  • @nathalieslachmuylders
    @nathalieslachmuylders 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm currently dreaming of a reducing-stash-project (plotulopi unspun held with shiny mohair) that will hopefully be a sweater quantity, with bobbles that run down the sleeves and body in the style of Yayoi Kusama's dotted pumpkins. Don't know how I'll place the colours for the bobbles yet, but after seeing this video, I've decided to experiment with the Estonian version! Greetings from Dublin

    • @nathalieslachmuylders
      @nathalieslachmuylders ปีที่แล้ว

      Update: the lofty Plotulopi (unspun yarn) does not lend itself to the Estonian variation at all because the fragile yarn does not smoothly pull out into the many loops without catching on itself and breaking. But the smallest, 3 stitch bobble gives an amazingly well-defined and 'protruding' result with the 'sculptural' plotulopi. For the 3 stitch centered decrease at the end a thinner cable needle helps to complete the bobble.

  • @larrybolognese3858
    @larrybolognese3858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the wonderful videos. I am a guy who has been knitting since a child like you. How would I make a 5 stitch bobble, just do one more back loop stitch, and then bind them off.

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you mean one that is 5 stitches wide? The basic technique stays the same...you simply cast on more stitches and then you decrease them in the last row. However, you will notice that there are limits and depending on the yarn it might not look good.
      There are other ways to achieve bigger bobbles but that's a bit more complicated to explain.

    • @NimbleNeedles

      @@NimbleNeedles I tried!! and yeah because the fabric with double stockinette is "hollow", they didn't have much anchorage so to speak and ended up making holes/getting loose. I found out that nups work much better!

    Dear Norman! Thank you so much for this tutorial, I almost gave up on the slipover I'm working on right now.
    But do you have an advise concerning knitting bobbles in the round? Everytime I knit the first row right after working the bobbles, the stitch before the one right on top of the bobble becomes reeeeaaally wide. I tried knitting the stitch through the back loop and knitting the stitches very tightly, but it is still quite obvious, especially when working with thicker needles (no 7). It does not occut when working in rows. Do you have an idea ehat I'm doing wrong?
    All the best and happy Easter 😊

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles  ปีที่แล้ว

      well, probably involves your tension a bit then. I mean, its bound to end a up a bit looser. Other than that, not sure I can help you right away. WOuld have to toy around myself and don't have the time right now for that.

      hm...I couldn't tell you because I don't end up with a hole in the next row. So, very difficult to say what exactly you are doing wrong.
      Possibly you are knitting the last decrease or the stitch before and after the bobble with not a big enough tension?
