    Good job fellow overlander...
    I like the part when you said.."I made it, because I couldn't afford it" that's the gold. All these rich hipsters out throwing everything in the cart and showboating around town with brand new untarnished gear. Us tinkering troops are keeping fresh and practical.

      Thank you!! Hahaha that’s the truth! Also there’s so much stuff out there that’s “for looks” and the quality is just trash!! Looks cool in the parking lot but the minute your out actually using it, it fails!

    You know what I love about all your stuff on your jeep?..is that everything you have on it is because you use it and need it.. I've seen enough jeeps where people put stuff on there for looks..and you know it's for looks cause they're super clean and gay.. I love how you use pipes clamps with no shame lol.. definitely very awesome.. a perfect example of what a real jeepers look like..puts all those clean jeeps to shame this is what a jeep supposed to look like,..rugged, dirty and rough...thanks for sharing.

    • @itsDeza
      @itsDeza  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!! I can’t afford all the fancy bolt on stuff, but I do have a welder! There’s a huge difference from people who build their jeep for looks vs letting the jeep build itself for a more practical reason. This jeep becomes my lifeline while on long adventures. If something is needed, it’s needed you just have to make it work. And that leads to a very unique jeep haha

    • @ujayet
      @ujayet 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@itsDeza yep that's what these jeeps are build for exactly how you're doing it,, I use to tell people jeeps are like A Marine.. you can put stuff on them as needed and work...the problem is too many of these jeep owners isnt using them the way they are made to be use.. if they could put lipstick on them they would..they worry about air conditioning and armor all on their dash than anything smh...scared to use zip ties if needed..scared to use duct tape if needed scared to use pipe clamps if needed, scared to use ropes and ties wherever is needed..
      But you're not afraid any of those things that's what makes yours real when I analyze your jeep.

    I had one of those EAG bumper/tire carriers with the push button like yours and I actually liked it. If I remember correctly I had to modify/adjust the catch pin on the bumper for it to latch correctly but after that it worked great. I didn’t have as much weight on mine as you do so maybe that is a factor. I swapped it out for an Or-Fab carrier which I like better.

Love hitting trails in different states and explore around. So the Jeep still has to be Offroad capable but also comfortably livable. It’s a fine line sometimes haha

    Wow, what changes you have made since couple years ago for your Moab trip.
    Questions:
    - Still running the D35 in the rear with that D30R up front? Whose alloy shafts you have in the D35? Did you know, the early years ZJs had D35s with rear discs that can be adapted to the drum D35?
    - You're missing the front ds in the vid and the vacuum lines for the quick disconnect. You go to the XJ/TJ 1pc inner shaft for the 2pc inner shaft? Upgrade to the 297/760 ujoints from the 260 ujoints in the YJ to go with those shafts? Do you know the ZJ shafts also fit the YJ's D30R and come in cv style? If you removed the quick disconnect, did you change the front ds to the TJ style where its balanced as it rotates constantly and has the double-cardon joint at the tcase output?
    - Do you keep any hardware/spares in the Jeep for the Jeep? Axle shafts, ds, dual batts, etc. You have tools but do you have the bigger spares? What about spare fuse, relays, and things?
    - Have you thought to place in a dash switch to control the winch, in addition to the hard line hand held?
    - What does it weight outfitted? There are plenty of truck weigh stations to check that out, and if you park evenly across the split of the scale, you can get a front & rear weight.
    - Now you have a hardtop, but didn't see any AC. You have the soft half doors to help remove and add air flow, think about having the sides windows tilt, ie minivan? Rear window removed or capable to be split into a slider, ie like those slider uppers for the 1/2 doors?
    - Engine swap included what other mechanicals? Wire harness, trans, tcase to mate to trans (difference of 21-spline to 23-spline), fuel pump, ecu, motor mounts, etc? Who did the swap?
    - SYE on the tcase? Or atleast swap in a TJ version as its slip yoke is exterior of the rear output seal, not like that of the YJ?
    - Nice TSC front lights, need to put more on the roof rack for the sides and rear facing...don't you think? Maybe underneath as well for rock lights and camping ground lights?
    - How would you change a flat tire? Hi-lift, stock scissor jack, bottle jack?
    - Still use the foot actuated parking brake?
    - Thought of running the shower through a water to water heater from the coolant?
    - What about the 12v refrigs instead of the large Yetti?
    Rather than to pack all your gear into/onto your YJ, what about something along the lines of a military M416 trailer for the gear carrying? They are pretty small (4x6, almost), set high, have strong overlanding following for setups, etc.
    Do you let your GF drive? LOL.

    • @itsDeza
      @itsDeza  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Moran yep d35 rear and d30 up front. They axles are the crown automotive chromoly shafts. I actually did not know that! Good to know! I’m actually going to be swapping a Toyota rear axle with an elocker in it soon. I have a lot of weight and I’m not gentle on my Jeep. That d35 is a ticking time bomb. The front drive shaft exploded on me on the way to Florida. (Currently getting a custom “bullet proof” one made from Point Springs. I removed the center axle disconnect and I’m using the early xj shaft. So it’s the baby one haha. My year yj (95) came with the upgraded stronger axle/unjoints in them. So I have one strong and one weak one haha. The driveshaft that’s being built is indeed balanced, but even before that I ran normal yj shafts with no vibration problems. As for spares, the green box on the roof infont of the tent is filled with parts! Ujoints, coil, spark plug wires, fuses, wire, butt connectors, relays, every piece for the distributor, map sensor, nuts bolts, a full spare wiring harness Incase a connector breaks and even parts to rebuild the diffs. Also there is all my diagnostic tools, test light multimeter and stuff like that. It may sound like overkill but Iv been places 80 miles from anyone and no cell service for days. And to be honest Iv used a lot of this stuff. I even changed out the rear diffs carrier pin in Kansas last year. I haven’t thought of that for the winch actually. I’m about due for a new one here soon. Funny you say that about the weight! We wanted to durning the last trip but never got a chance to. There is a supply yard with a scale close to me that I’m ganna hit when the weather gets better. Our guess is that it weights 5800. (Basically adding up each parts shipping weight on amazon) The hard top is only for winter. As soon as spring hits, I switch to a safari top/rear net combo and tube doors or canvas lowers. As for the swap, yea motor, trans, tcase wire harness, ecu, driveshafts front and rear, motor mounts, motor mount perches need to be cut off the frame and re welded forward, fuel pump doesn’t need to be changed although the fuel lines need to be changed from under firewall to fuel rail. Me and my friend Matt stripped the motor down and rebuilt it, then me Zak Henry and Carl did the swap in my garage. I have a couple videos covering the whole process on my TH-cam channel if you’re interested in watching that! No SYE yet. I’m still on the stock rear shaft. I shimmed the rear axle to get the pinion angle better and dropped the tcase skid plate down alittle. I’m only running a 2.5 lift so I don’t have any vibrations, even at 80mph. I love them freaking TSC lights! Bright as hell and great quality! For camp lights I have magnetic lights that attach to the roof rack arms and my gf put those led Xmas lights all around the roof rack. The prob with lights on the rack is running the wires with running hardtop then safari top. Couldn’t find a clean way to do it. I’m sure I’d destroy rock lights very quickly haha. I have a a hi lift jack on the roof under the rooftop tent! Iv so far only had one flat tire! I don’t actually use the parking brake I ran all new cables and everything for it, it works but I just put it in gear and if I’m parking on a steep hill I’ll put it in 4low. I’m still working out the shower part, before I met my gf I would find a stream or pond and shower that way. With the metal sprayer the water actually warms up fast in the sun! Also I could lay it close to a fire or dump boiling water in it. Yes! Many times Iv thought about a 12v fridge!!!! The prob is I can’t afford it haha. Buying ice and dumping out the water every couple days is so annoying! Iv thought about a trailer a couple times. Would be nice to set up base camp then go explore for the day. But then I have to worry about people stealing or going through my stuff. Nothing would be worse then someone stealing your home and now your stuck with nothing. What about the times when camp is far off the beaten trail? There’s so many pros and cons. Yea my yj likes to try flipping backwards on vertical hills but I’m use to it. It also really hasn’t stopped me from getting down gnarly trails yet either. Do I miss a light weight jeep? Absolutely! But is it that big of a deal? Not as much as you think. Hahaha my gf hasn’t driven it yet she will one day haha! You had some great questions! You should join in on out live stream Q&As! I’m sure other people would love to hear these questions!

      Instead of loose ice in your cooler, fill milk jugs or 2 liter coke bottles with water and freeze them. They'll take longer to melt, and double as a potable water source once they do.

    Question I always have for Roof Racking Jeep owners, how do you remove your top when you have a roof rack installed? I noticed in one of your clips you were topless and still had the roof rack. That is my biggest restraint from going roof rack is losing the ability to remove the top

    • @itsDeza
      @itsDeza  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey great question! To remove my top it’s as simple as hooking the rack to an I beam or tree branch with a ratchet strap in the back, then unbolting the 2 rear support arms ratchet it up an inch then slide the hard top right off the back! Bolt the rear supports back on and way I go! I don’t even unload the rack haha takes only a few minutes to do. It’s very very easy to do to! So I say go for it!

    Hey dude, I noticed that you have filters on your PCV valves (blowby valves) and I was wondering where you got them and if they are safe to install. The factory system was to route the PCV valve to the airbox for emissions so I wasnt sure if that had affected your engine at all or not?

    • @corbinlauvray1535
      @corbinlauvray1535 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering because if they work well then I might do the same because I have a lot of blowby and it leaks through the hose to the airbox and onto my air filter

    • @itsDeza
      @itsDeza  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea it is safe! So I’ll try to explain how it works. Do you have the 2.5 or 4.0? So basically the elbows on top of the valve cover are to help get rid the crank case pressure and gases that build up in the valve cover while the motors running. (This is for the 4.0) (2.5 only has one elbow I think) So the factory set up is the rear one by the firewall is connected to a vacuum source. It connects to the intake manifold to help suck out the gasses and lowers the pressure. The front one is for fresh air and helps keep the air pressure normal. (since the valve cover now has a vacuum draw on it it creates a low pressure zone) in stock form it connects to the intake after the filter so it’s not sucking in dirt and debris. But since I removed the stock intake I no longer had a way for clean air to enter the top of the motor. So I bought a small 1/2 inch filter from advanced auto and put it on the inlet side of valve cover. (Front elbow) now both the elbows are the same and end in the same place so it doesn’t matter what one has a vacuum and what one sucks in the air. I don’t actually think jeep used an actually pcv valve. The 2.5 if I remember only has one elbow on the valve cover since it’s smaller I guess it doesn’t need as much fresh air? I never had anything on my 2.5 I left it open. My rings were so bad I had so much blow by and oil it just soaked my firewall with oil, I left it like that cuz hell, if the fire walls soaked in oil at least it can’t rust 😂

    • @corbinlauvray1535
      @corbinlauvray1535 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!! I think I'm going to set mine up like yours then, I feel like it will make my engine run a lot better without the blowby oil dampening my air filter😂😂👍

    • @JJ-wp5yn
      @JJ-wp5yn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be careful when doing so, I did the same thing to mine and discovered 1. that the blow by gasses were finding their way from the crank case into the cabin(definitely not good to breathe in) and 2. Moisture was being drawn into the engine and oil upon cool down causing rust. A better idea would be to implement an aftermarket ccv/get filtration system that filters out the impurities before reburn

    Hey yall, new to the Overlanding scene. Noticed a lot of people remove sway bars and track bars. Whats the purpose or benefit of this?

    • @itsDeza
      @itsDeza  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On a yj, the track bars and sway bars limit flex. More flex will help keep the wheels touching the ground for more traction and added stability Offroad. But with out sway bars it could get sketchy in the road around turns. That’s where good quality leaf springs and struts come into play. I run the Rubicon express leafs on mine and they handle the sway on the road great! Even with all the added weight. Now this concept only works on leaf spring vehicles. I wouldn’t dare run a TJ/jk that has coil springs with out a sway bar!

  • @johnkemple

    Those boomerang shackles dont work how you think..And they are missing the bolt that goes in the empty holes.. They are for when the axle is drooped down so they dont get stuck and bend the spring end..just saying..

    • @itsDeza
      @itsDeza  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really no. The shape of a shackle doesn’t matter, the shape of a shackle doesn’t dictate behavior of the spring. It’s strictly for clearance. This will be really hard to explain the physics of this over txt but I’ll try. Look at your eyelets on the frame and the leaf. That distance in 3 dimensional space will never change no matter the shape of the shackle. It pivots on an arch it can only move on said arch. It could be shaped like a lighting bolt and as long as the holes are the same distance apart it will always run that same arch. Look at a boomerang Shackle and in your mind make it a straight shackle. As it compresses it runs right into the frame, hence why it’s got a bow in it. With that same straight shackle in mind, picture it’s arch as it pivots. Same arch. As for the bolt in the center, I don’t run them because it limits flex in the leaf it self. I want them to be able to slightly tilt off axis under hard flexing of the axle. To stiff and the spring won’t roll a bit. Don’t believe me? Test yours. Find a flexy test ramp. Bolts in go up. Then remove them and test again. Perhaps I’ll make a video about all this explaining it. Iv messed with a lot of Racecar suspension geometry growing up. And I remember learning about the shapes of a 2 pivot arm like a control arm. Once you understand how it works it will all make sense!

      It really wasn’t to bad to do, here’s a playlist of all the videos in order of the swap from picking it up to rebuilding it to actually swapping it. Its not a “how to” but i do talk about the troubles i ran into. th-cam.com/play/PLXA32UVmpI3dAXCP4Z6RLJGJtVpCbT9ei.html It all depends on how you wanna do it, how cheap you can find the motor tranny and transfer case and if you want to rebuild the motor and if your doing three works yourself. The swap is well worth the effort, especially matched with 4.88 gears. Hope this helps! And thanks!
