For excavation, there's a few different approaches: - Make sure all or most of your excavators are set to prioritize mining that resource; you can leave one out to go scrape the edges and such for mining an area thoroughly OR - Forget about the scraps and designate only the main part of each vein to be mined; most maps have enough of everything that leaving out a fair amount in the ground still gets you enough to reach the endgame and move on to contracts
