I have been saying this for years, the man is consistently a top tier 1b with the bat and the glove, and no one talks about him, same thing with Jose Ramierz

Spot on. Like legit he was definitely already on pace to deserve it (and have a strong chance of getting in) but this year and if it’s repeatable even a couple times he’s an easy lock

More like if he wins an MVP this year he'll go from no shot to maybe on the bubble. If he retired at the end of the season he wouldn't come close, MVP or no MVP. If he starts to decline like 35 year old sluggers decline then he has no shot. He would have to have at least 2 more healthy years that are very close to as good as 2022. Then 2 or 3 more solid years after that. At that point he would have a better than 50/50 chance at getting in the HoF. There are no circumstances in this timeline where he's a HoF lock. You're really underestimating how hard it is to make it into the HoF. Only about 1.5 percent of MLB players make it. It's closer to 1 percent of position players. There are only 10 or so future HoF players in MLB at any given moment. Pujols, Verlander, Scherzer, Trout, Kershaw, Cabrera, Greinke, and Molina are all going to get in at some point. That's it. There are no other locks. There are a bunch of really great players who are either close to retiring and firmly on the bubble or are on track to make it but have work to do. Votto is so on the bubble it's insane. Harper, Betts, and Altuve are all getting close to cementing themselves as HoFers. Then there are guys like Acuna, Soto, Guerrero, Machado, and Ohtani who are HoF talents but don't have close to a HoF resume yet. The bar is really, REALLY high. It's really, REALLY hard to make it. To think Goldschmidt had a 75 percent chance before the season of getting in is delusional. It's delusional to think he's got even a 50 percent chance right now.
I have always said this. People forget he was a 6(?) time all star CONSECUTIVELY before 2019. I’m a die hard Dodgers fan and this man always tore us apart single-handed.

Him being a part of the Cardinals will help his candidacy. If someone is a major player in the Cardinals, Dodgers, Yankees, and Boston organizations they're almost on a fast track to the HoF.

Aside from all the praise he gets from teammates and others about pretty much every aspect of his game that doesn't show up in a box score, we gotta acknowledge that he's simply one of the nicest, most selfless players in the game. Not flashy, and he let's his results speak for themselves.
Living near Baltimore, I never thought I’d be able to see Goldschmidt play live. Near the end of the 2016 season the diamondbacks came and played a series in Baltimore. I was at all 3 games, he didn’t make much of an impact in that series, but to see my favorite player at the time up close in person was pretty cool.
I wouldn’t be surprised if his career numbers end up looking a lot like Jeff Bagwell’s when it’s all said and done.
As a dbacks fan you love to see goldy finally get the national recognition he deserves. Always underrated but I knew once he went to st Louis people would know his name

Going from Trout’s debut, Goldy has arguably been the second best player in the league. Nobody talked about him because he was a Dback
Since Trout's debut season, 2011, Kershaw and Scherzer both have ~10 more fWAR, while Posey is around 2 higher and Verlander 1 lower. 2 WAR is easily within margin of error, but 10 is not. You could argue for Goldy to be fourth, but Trout, Kershaw, and Mad Max are clearly ahead imo. I'd personally have him sixth behind the five mentioned above, but that's still damn good

He has always embodied humbleness, was my idol on the Diamondbacks growing up and glad he might finally get his most deserved MVP this season
I would rather see him win the Triple Crown that's harder to do than to win the MVP

As a Cardinals fan I always remember seeing what he was doing for the Dbacks and thinking he would make the perfect first baseman in STL…and that’s pretty much what he has been this year especially lol, perfect!
What a genuinely nice person. I live near St. Louis, and am a HUGE baseball fan. Whey you talk about the "Cardinal Way", it starts with players like Goldy, Matt Holliday, Chris Carpenter, and others.

Goldschmidt is also the only right handed batter to hit a ball into the Allegheny river in Pittsburgh. If I remember right
I think both Goldschmidt and Arenado are the kind of players i think of when i think of the Cardinals franchise. They always have these studs that are so humble and so level headed

This man flies so far under the radar it's insane. He's probably one of the most consistent players in the game today.
You got it right at the beginning, Cards and D-Backs fans knew. I'm a Cards fan, and when I heard about the Goldschmidt deal, I knew it'd end up well on our end. MVP or not, he's been worth it, now if only the Cardinals can make a deep run in the playoffs with him. I say if he wins the MVP, and has another top-5 MVP season, the only thing he can do to solidify his place in the Hall is with a WS win where he's a centerpiece or leader of the team.
I’ve loved Goldy since I saw him playing with guys like Miguel Montero, AJ Pollock, and Justin Upton. It was always my favorite time of the year when we’d go out to Arizona to see family and get to watch the Diamondbacks play
Those early 2010s Dbacks teams were fun to watch. My personal favorite player was Aaron Hill but Goldy was the GOAT. That Goldy trade will probably go down with the dansby trade in worst trades in Dbacks history.

@@glaceo_o229 The reason why they traded Goldy is because he was asking for alot more money than the D-backs Front Office was willing to spend and we weren't anywhere close to be a contender. Our previous front office had gutted our farm system and we needed more players. As a fan, I would have loved if they had kept Goldy but our front office is a bunch of cheapskates and trade any decent player for peanuts. I long for the day when we get a new owner.

It's a blessing to have this man on my favorite baseball team. I remember early 2021 he was in a bit of a funk, but got out of it and was on a tear for the final months of the season. He was awesome during that historic win streak as well. Not even being biased, but he's got my vote NL MVP.

I always thought he was underrated and I’m glad people are starting to notice.
Side note: when you showed WAR since 2010 it is crazy how high Trout is and that is with a couple of injury seasons, insane.

Manny Machado came up with the Orioles, moves to 3rd base because Hardy was at shortstop
Machado signed a massive contract with the Padres because of his career success at 3rd base
Machado is married to Yonder Alonso's sister, she took a picture of Soto and Machado standing next to each other at the all-star game and sent it to Yonder

I get to watch this man every day and every day I am just shell shocked at how good he is. Not only does he hit for power but he is not afraid to take the ball the other way and he simply does not seem to strike out very much. Games in which he goes 2-5 seems like a bad day at the office for him. Absolutely unreal. Should definitely win the MVP and if he keeps it up, HoF.
One of my all time favorite players, would love to see him win MVP. As of tonite he's up to 341, 31HRs, 100 RBI! Monster Numbers with plenty of games left.

I wasn't his fan, Griffey was my guy but the call up story of Bonds is Hof worthy alone.. Also, Goldie is 100% going HoF. Drew Jones crashed way too hard in his final years, that's hurt him. Goldie is looking really solid for MVP this year, not to mention he's looking extremely close to Triple Crown. One season doesn't get you into HoF, but Goldie has been this consistent his entire career. No question, he's going to be in HoF.

In AZ the humidor reduced his power to center and right center resulting in a more pull focused approach. Turner ward his hitting coach in his early dback seasons is now with the cards and his influence shows
great video! @ 0:58 you say Paul has a 71.8% chance of making the HOF based on the proportion of players who made/didn’t make the hall with similar stats. I’d say it’s higher! ARod, Manny, and McGuire are HOFers not allowed in due to steroids. And Albert Pujols is first ballot.
Watching Goldy you get the feeling that any time he comes to the plate, he’s going to make something happen no matter what. And in the field he seems to always make the right play. Haven’t had this much confidence in a player for the Cards since Pujols in the mid 2000s. It was like, if we can just get Albert to the plate one more time we can win this game. That’s how it feels a lot of times with Goldy now. Just fundamentally sound and so much fun to watch. Lucky to have him as a leader on the Cardinals in a time where it’s so damn hard to compete with the Dodgers, Braves, etc.

no one talks about him because he played for the dbacks and then came to a fly over state to play for the cardinals. Unfortunately he's not on a coastal team so everyone forgets about him. But he's consistently been a top tier player his whole career. Glad he's finally getting some recognition...even though he'll stoically deflect any praise lol

56 WAR in 12 seasons is definitely HOF level production. For context, Miguel Cabrera is at 68 in 20 seasons.
And Mike Trout is at 80 over 12 seasons.....
An MVP award this year, seals it. I don’t see how you can keep him out justifiably if he ends up with 65-70 or more WAR (Miggy at 69 or so - seen as sure lock, deservingly so). Hope he hangs on this year and gets the spotlight he deserves!

You’re missing one of the biggest factors as to why he is so good and helps his case better than most other statistics; his durability, especially in this day and age. He currently sits at 15th with most games played among active players. The 14 players who have played more games are only there because they have been in the league longer. I.E Pujols, Molina, Cabrera, Votto, Cruz, etc. He’s an overlooked player and that is probably one of the most overlooked stats for his case, yet it’s YUGE
Growing up on the west coast in a Giants household I distinctly remember everyone being scared of Goldy more than anyone else, Lincecum still wakes up in a cold sweat because of him.

He is a fun player to watch. I have been this SEASON to six Cardinal games and he hit a homer in each of them. Cardinals win or lose, GOLDIE exerts his best effort both in defense ( saving errors by making it an OUT at first) and offense with his HIGH BASEBALL IQ! I would NOT BET against him.

He is the most fundamentally sound baseball player I personally have ever seen. If he isn't a manager or coach some day I'll be disappointed.

I don't think it's that quiet honestly. He's just been flat out crazy powerful, and above all else, consistent.
Underated channel
I have a feeling that after Goldy's playing career comes to an end he'll still be in baseball for a long time. It would be awesome to see him as a manager. I'm sure he'd love to coach in Texas.
