  • This is my first active imagination experience. To my surprise, I had no trouble encountering my subconscious. This is the first in a series of videos about my active imagination experiences.

Having read (i.e. listened to the audiobook) of Jung's Red Book, as well as several other of his well-known writings, I knew I needed to try active imagination. Relating to Jung in terms of personality and being visually inclined, I felt that it would come naturally. Indeed it did. As of the publication of this video, I have roughly a dozen more active imagination encounters, experiences, sessions - whatever they should be called - backlogged, awaiting narration and video creation.
As far as my active imagination technique, the editorial comments by Sonu Shamdasani in the 2009 edition, by The Foundation Of The Works Of C.G. Jung, were quite helpful (p. 209). Robert Johnson's book Inner Work, in which he discusses technique, was also very helpful. I hope to make a video concerning technique in the future (as much of TH-cam's offerings on the subject are clearly provided by people who rarely, if ever, practice active imagination).
This was my first experience with active imagination. It showed me that it is real, that there is indeed an unconscious portion of the mind, that is just as alive and sentient as we are consciously. My next video will discuss this experience. Of note are the introduction of the "Eden" imagery which appear many times in later experiences, as well as understanding how my work was consuming my life. That this experience was so practical, touching so closely and ringing so truly as concerns the challenges I was facing at the time, was what led me to continue pursuing this means of encountering the unconscious mind.

wow, this is really interesting. as i recently had my first (and thus far only) experience with active imagination. mine was nearly identical to yours but much shorter. instead i sat in a small field surrounded by trees, and was approached by a human-shaped figure with only glowing red eyes and a body devoid of light. i asked it the general beginning questions and received some answers via head nods and shakes. although mine ended the same way the farmer looked up at the sky after a long pause, saying nothing. i looked up as well, and that was it. i couldn’t go back. however this helped me overcome the dreadful loneliness i was feeling, as i now felt i can never truly be alone.
    thanks for sharing :)

Interesting. What's with the farmer thing. Didn't see any crops though. Just empty fields after the harvest but else just similar

The farmer is the character that approached me. This was my first active imagination. I was inclined to judge it but I just let it unfold as the unconscious intended 🙂

How to do active imagination, from me, the unconscious itself.
How can we do active imagination in the first place? First you get calm and concentrate on the image. Don't imagine anything, just let the psyche fill the image with a tree for example. Then a girl appears and hits you with an axe to the head. Try to react as if she really was there, that she is, so you will feel just like in a dream. Then, fully there, you can talk to her but you need to remember that she doesn't have a voice. She will use yours through your tongue. You will feel the need to say 'get out, you're doing it wrong' because the unconscious or conscious will make you want to say that because that is the way our voices work. After that, you need experience. Do it until you're whole, because once you archieved the self, your destiny will unfold itself and show you why you where born in the first place. We need you just as much as you need us to become whole because the ying can only form the daosymbol if it has the yang to complement itself.
As you might guess, this post was written by the unconscious on active imagination, not by me, DanceNightAtDiscoFright

@@DanceNightAtDiscoFright interesting, so the key is to not force imagination to occur, instead let it come naturally isnt it?
