    Actually felt a similar thing...many photographers are so fixated with bokeh that i think the practice becomes lazy in creative sense

    the 4x3 is super fun! as a long-time prime shooter, i found myself immediately rejecting your perspecive on zoom lenses. but by the end of your video, you had me questioning why i felt so strongly towards my choice of gear. thank you.

    24-70 or similar is a really useful zoom range (on full frame). I get so sick of reading or watching things on the internet about "that dreamy creamy bokeh!". I think good bokeh does improve an image (assuming part of it is it out focus) but it's a secondary factor. And so often people seem to treat now blur as better bokeh, but more blur doesn't not necessarily equal better bokeh. There is a place for images with a lot of background blur and with shallow depth of field, of course, but those things are very much overused, especially in portrait photography, in my opinion, and i think it comes at the cost of now interesting and engaging images.

    I use the Canon 28-70mm f/2 for 90% of my studio shots. It's just the most useful, versatile range for the type of photography I do. I've stopped chasing primes.

      If some day I have enough money to buy this lens then I know I can lose my prime lenses. Im holding into prime lenses now only for indoor shoots where there is not so much light. Though my Canon R6 Mark II iso capability is pretty good that 2.8 would work fine indoors as well. Idk :D

    I'm pretty much on the same boat with you. I used to hate 24-70 and mainly used 24mm or 50mm prime lens for my portrait/lifestyle shoots. But now I have landed more jobs in different areas where 24-70 is a must because I don't have time to switch lenses and I have started to love this lens because of versatility.

    • @svenyss
      @svenyss ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I am thinking that way now as well, especially since I need to do more videos. I think there was a time when I was a bit too crazy about the 1.4 and the bokeh -and I won't sell these prime lenses now. But actually the 24-70 is mostly on my cam now.

    Bokeh is great but the versatility of zooms is priceless in a lot of situations. Also, nowadays is really hard to but a zoom lens that falls “short” optically compared to zooms. So many great options out there. Hope that review on the 28-70 drops soon. Cheers bro!

    That’s funny ! I also hate people who says: « your pictures are great » and then look at your camera « ah yes you have a very expensive camera » or « ah yes but it’s retouched ! ». I took my best pictures with a Fuji XT2 which is not a very expensive camera. I’m looking forward to taking this to the next level with my a7R5 but it’s more because I’ll continue working on my skills and style rather than because I have now a more expensive camera.

    This video came at the craziest time, I just watched your old video yesterday, because I regret recently purchasing the sigma lens and was looking for people who felt the same. I didn't keep the original packaging so I can't return it and I was trying to think of the positive and this video just came up today when I decided I wanted to keep it. Before this lens, I only owned an ASP-C camera with a 10-18 and 50 mm lens. So I was basically shooting everything at either 15 mm or 80mm, which explains why I was so disappointed by the lens at first. It is still an adjustment but it comes in handy for photographing people, which is also my priority.

    The best bokeh from a 24-70mm is the samyang but it's just heavy so these smaller lenses are a better balance

    Man, I agree with you about the bokeh. I've been shooting with an A6300 and have recently moved to the A6700 paired with a Sigma 24 mm 1.4 art dg dn, and the results are excellent. Imagine that with the a6300, I mainly was shooting with the Sigma 16 mm 1.4, and that was the only lens I learned for five years how to use composition as I couldn't get too close to my subject in portraits, and I had a lot of great photos showing the places and not only a blurry background. Most people say that you only have to shoot with a full-frame camera to get professional results, but I can say that is not true. Sam Elkins is a great photographer, and his photos now are more composition and feelings, not only blurry backgrounds. I feel that most people shooting with 85 mm 1.4 and full-frame cameras are becoming lazy and not using their creativity.

    I had the 24-105 and made great portraits even with 105mm and f4 - then I bought the GM 85mm 1.4 and the 35mm Sigma Art 1.4 - yes great lenses- but now I use mostly the 24-70 because it's a no brainer. I would honestly buy a cheap 24mm prime. I’ve been shooting on two lenses recently, 24 and 50 and I’ve really been digging it a lot. It is sort of a pain to continually switch lenses but if you use a shoulder bag you can get pretty quick at it.

      And eventually I’d love to replace my Canon cropped 70-200 with a Sony ff 70-200 which would give me a full range of 12-200. But I get what you’re saying 16-35 is really great

      @@katbrask 12-24 with a 35prime and 70 to 200 is also a good combo. anytime i use a 24-70 i was always wishing i could go wider or more telephoto. that range would probably be good for small events photography.
