How has the build quality held up? I'm deciding between these two and I've heard that for some people the Samyang breaks off at the mount while the Sigma has dust issues haha. Looking back now, which would you choose?
Let me address this "I hear" or "I've read" that the lens mount is weak. I personally own this lens. Thus far, knock on wood (my head that is), I have not experienced any issues with the mount. After purchasing, I began to research this issue after reading two reviews on amazon stating that they had snapped the mount and the point of failure were the four small screws that affix the mounting ring to the lens. Thus far, I have not been able to find too many other reports of such occurrences...except for the youtube comments section's propencity to regularly regurgitate these incomplete reports as confirmation that the mount is defective. Having said that, I do not doubt that some have had this issue. However, if you look into other similar lenses, you will also find similar reports. Again, these are very heavy lenses and the overall reports are few and far between. This particular lens is heavier than average for this type of lens, so these reports could ultimately turn out to be a real concern. What we should be focusing on are the particulars of how these people were using their copies when their mounts broke. We should also compare the number of failures to the number of copies that were sold during the same timeframe. Did they bang into something really hard? Did they drop their lens onto a hard surface? I have been particularly careful to grab the lens and body together and not just hold the camera horizontally (shooting position) without any lens support. To me that's common sense given the weight of the lens. I'll be curious to see how this develops, whether these initial reports blossom into more and more reports of such failures or if they turn out to be limited instances of negligent use. At this juncture, however, the jury is still out and we should be careful about treating these reports as axiomatic. My 2 cents...(probably worth less than that).
I haven't seen it fall apart myself yet either. It's a lens, with glass in it and if treated well, it should take every day, light knocks and going in and out of camera bag
I was really close to buying the Samyang based on all the great reviews and the price. But then I learned about how many people had it braking off due to it's heavy weight combined with a cheap plastic - something that can't be fixed. And Samyang is apparently not that great when it comes to customer service or taking responsibility for a faulty product. So I'll stay away from it. As a professional, even though I treat my gear well, it is used a lot and it needs to be able to last. I think I'll go with the Tamron 28-75. Thanks for the great review though.
Heck yea. I want to get the Samyang. I still have the sony kit lens 28-70 3.5/5.6. Its ok but i need and want more of separation of back ground and subject. Anyhow, love the video. Keep em coming.
With the Samyang lens station each of the two positions can be assigned to one of the three modes: Normal - once you switch to MF in camera the ring changes focus. MF - the lens forces manual focus (and the ring obviously changes focus) Aperture - the ring changes aperture. So you can set up mode 1 as normal and mode 2 as MF and voilà, you have an MF switch.
I just found out about the samyang after being in the market for the sigma for a few months now, and price being the main issue, I’m really tempted to go samyang here since it looks nearly identical. Weight would be my next issue, but I’m glad to see samyang building a competitive fast zoom lens. Great comparison 🙌
One important difference, at least for me, that you forgot to mention is about minimal focus distance. 35cm for samyang and 18cm for sigma, which is huge difference, especially if you want to focus closeup products.
Really great review. I love all of your reviews. I've had a lot of problems with quality control with the Samyang lenses in the past so a bit distrustful over the long haul. However, the Sigma lenses I have had have been great. I use the Sigma 85 f1.4 and small Sigma 65mm f2 as well as the Sigma lens in your review. I have the newest Sigma zoom which is said to be more protected from dust. thanks again for your entertaining review.

Nope! No buyer remorse here. I'm locked into the Sigma universe and love my 24-70 DG DN Art! (You are pretty much to blame!!) Sticking to Sony, SIgma, some Tamrons and don't want to really add another family of lenses that will further confuse matters! ( as long as the quality and performance stay at high levels on Sigma and Tammy's) In the meantime, still waiting for the Tamron 35-150 and the Sigma 20mm DG DN Contemporary to be in stock. Probably the 35 DG DN i series as well. VERY tempted by the grossly expensive Sony 70-200 GM...but pie in the sky wishing!!! 😁. It's finally reached the point where I can now feel comfortable enough with all my new "E" lenses to sell my three Canon Holy Trinity of 2.8L II zooms, 1.4 Extender III, and the 100 2.8L Macro, along with the Metabones V and sigma MC11. Keep it up....lovin' your reviews! (a7 IV and two ZV-E10's for studio and location stills, live streams, and B-Roll videos for my podcasts and online instruction activity). Dzięki!
Nice review as always. I think I will wait to see what Sony comes up with with their mark two 24-70 ( currently I have Tamron 28-75 Mki). I have just got the Sigma 85 f1.4 and have been blown away by the quality. So if Sony's new lens does not excite me I will get the sigma. It's a shame it does not have the aperture ring as for this is only useful if all my lenses have it. One thing I think the Sigma would have in its favour is resale value over the Samyang
Sony mkII 24-70 will be surely better on paper and more expensive, much more expensive. Will the image quality be noticeably better? - that is questionable. Might be
@@PavSZ When I moved from Canon to Sony I had to make some sacrifices with lens choice. I am now replacing some lenses. Sony 70-200 f4 for the 70-200 f2.8 mkii (great lens as was the f4) Sony 85 f1.8 for the sigma f1.8, Samyang 18mm f2.8 for the Sony 16-35 GM f2.8. A standard lens will be next, weight will play a part in my decision . I can afford the cost of a GM but it needs to be better and lighter as I think the Sigma is a great lens. A lot of my work is in London and involves lugging gear on and off tubes and up and down stairs (im an old git)
@@PavSZ Once out I will look at the Sony 24-70MKii but unless it has a trick up it's sleeve I think I will get the Sigma. I can afford the GM glass but im not stupid enough to buy it just for the badge.
@@PavSZ Sigma 24-70 now on it's way. I have been so impressed with my Sigma 85 f1.4 and this will go nicely with it. It also leaves room to get the Sony 35 GM f1.4 with the money I will save, which is crazy when you think about it.

BTW, I have wanted to buy the "Dust Whore' for a couple of years but so many people complained about it acting like a very good vacuum cleaner (sucking dust) that even the fact that Sigma (allegedly) fixed the problem...I can't rid myself of the bias against owning one.

Saving a few pennies currently translates to 800 Euros for the Samyang versus 1300 Euros for the Sigma in my country. 😁 My issue is that all my other lenses are "wrong way turning" Sigmas...but still...600 Euros could easily get me another cool lens or a trip that would allow me to take a bunch of great photos.
i have had Samyang, Sigma and Sony's versions of 35mm/1.4 and 24mm/1.4 and my opinion samyang's image quality has more 'metallic' looks and more contrasty compared to the other 2 brands. I can't prove it scientifically either but it's always the case for me
Sigma ..... or maybe Samyang, no Sigma but .... Samyang is cheaper! Sigma is smaller, Samyang is still great quality. SIgma is Sigma but Samyang is cool now. I don't know really. Hire both and see which one you like more
I bought this lens long time ago ,almost 1 year and a half...I broke it once ,the same problem with Bayonet. I'm living in South Korea ,so there wasn't any problem to fix it, however I have some problem with Autofocus ,maybe it is because if the camera (Sony a7r3). Let's say, u're using your Samyang for 3-4 hours photshoot ,after zooming in and zoom out , Samyang can not focus normally ,It can't find a subject or keeping breath constantly. So ,it gives me sense of entrust
I just bought this lens and im super scared about the plastic mount problem, has anyone contacted with samyang if this problem is resolved? Im in such a huge panic attack and it’s quite a huge spending for me. A clarification about this issue would be highly appreciated 🙏
I think with the tolerances in manufacturing the quality difference even with first-party glass when new is going to be minimal. I think the differences we will see are in a few years, do the Samyang lenses have more plastic parts inside, do they use glue instead of screws? Will it stand up to the beating that a first-party lens will after years of use? As a working pro, I have sigma, Samyang, and first-party glass if it is my workhorse, everyday lens I might be more likely to go first-party I have 3 Samyang lenses, and 2 sigma lenses. I have had only 1 issue with Samyang glass I recently got a new Samyang 14mm RF mount 14mm that was decentered right out of the box, less likely to have that happen with a sigma or first-party lens. If you take a good picture no one, is going to know which lens you used even when pixel peeping.
Having lived in Japan for a cumulative 15 years of my life and have owned and extensively used multiple Japanese-made cameras and lenses over many years... from 35mm film cameras (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Bronica, Mamiya) to DSLRs (Including early Sony Digitals) to Mirrorless and large formats...I trust the Japanese' photographic manufacturing company's quality far more than the South Koreans...and especially not fond of less than critical manufacturing by the Chinese. The Japanese never cut corners, with great attention to detail, and fanatical dedication by their employees to top quality design and construction while being zealously loyal to their companies...and their customers. Now for the first time, I have converted entirely to the Sony Mirrorless Universe after many years of Canon DSLR's. What a significant difference in Sony's focus compared to Canon that is still primarily interested in their still photography customers with only casual attention to video shooters in their DSLRs and Mirrorless lines! (Common 29:59 minute video recording limit on most of their cameras!) Sigma is a company with similar goals and ideals as Sony...and Tamron is partially owned BY Sony (about 15%) which tells a story about THEIR lens development, reputation, and attention to quality.
Samyang has more solid build, collects less dust on body, less flaring, more rounded bokeh, par focal, slightly better sharpness (seemed to me by pausing the video), colors too looked a bit better to me and also cheaper .... So many advantages and you still can't say that Samyang is the winner ? I have a Samyang 14 mm RF and also L series RF ... my many times cheaper Samyang has a full metal body and feels ,uch more tougher than my L series build .... while also being very high quality ... I can say it's 85% of L series quality at a much smaller price ..... saymyang is truly doing wonders.
Samyang is really killing it lately. I adore my 50mm 1.4 mk2. A masterpiece... It has such a great character that it has absolute retro potential and will last a lifetime.
Hi Pav, how was your experience using the Samyang 24-70mm F2.8 ? I was planning to get one but whats holding me back is the base breaks of easily for some few customers due to poor build quality. How was it until now?
broke for me after couple of months of using it. the screws holding the lens to a mounting system are screwed into plastic. If you think about that lens being 1kg, there is a lot of pressure on the mounting point, which will inevitably break
My Samyang broke after falling from 20 cm to the ground. Those 4 screws of the bayonet broke out and its not reparable - im sad because the lense was nice. but its constructed to be destructed. And the weight was heavy during travel. thats why i used only this lense so that i dont have to carry any other with me. for weddings it was perfectly. Nothing the Sigma couldnt do and maybe its more robust
oh no. I have broke Tamrons and Sigmas when I dropped them from a very low hight. One was in the camera bag at the time too. Lenses are not made for dropping. Saying that, Samyang could do with a better construction for sure
Has anyone had any problems with their samyang lens, particularly the base breaking off? The reason why I ask is because samyang is the same company as Rokinon. The Rokinon 24-70mm base breaks off internally due to screws being mounted to internal plastic parts.

Just want to ask you I just bought samyang 24-70 and it is pretty heavy now and I feel sorry for my Sony a7iii didn’t have any idea how heavy it’s like so I purchased it but now I am confused maybe considering the sigma? Is there any better? In terms of the weight? Does it make huge difference even thought there like about 200 grams difference? Please let me know. And also I am scared of getting it accidental damage as it is pretty heavy I am only a small lady 😂
Sigma is lighter and smaller. If the weight bothers you than Sigma is a better option. There were reports of the mount coming off on Samyang lenses but they've told me that it was a problem with early copies of the lens. It should be fixed with any current ones now.

Since you got to use both of them did you try any action with them both? like capturing moving cars coming towards you or panning shots. I need a 24-70 f2.8 for my photgraphing dirt bikes and such and was curious about how fast either one acquires focus.
That’s not really a demanding thing for autofocus to be honest. I’d get the sigma as the samyangs mount is screwed into plastic and there’s a lot of reports of the lens mount breaking during normal use. I read one where the lens just fell off the camera and smashed. That’s unacceptable for the price.
Canon and Sigma zoom the same way, Nikon, Sony, Samyang, Tokina and Tamron the opposite.. Cheers.😉 Yeah i know made me crazy back in the day whenever i switched from Canon native to Tokina 😄
KINDLY REPLY!!! Sir, I am facing some problem while using Samyang 24-70 f2.8 with my Sony a7 IV. I have updated my sony a7 IV firmware but most of the time its hard to get pin point focus when I try to take pictures enabling single AF... When eye detection is enabled it either focuses behind the eye or nose plane...but sony GM shows me no problem ...

Probavly not too soon but also not too late. Hope for innovation so it would blow out sigma out of water and would be worth extra. Because if its like samy than I dunno will it be worth it
It might be coming soon but it will also be double the price of Sigma for sure. It will be an amazing lens, no doubt but not everyone can stretch the budget or simply justify the kind of money GM lenses cost.

And if they are both too heavy, shout out for the Sigma Contemporary 28-70, which is a cracking lens and much lighter, if you don’t mind losing a bit at the wide end.
Having had both and now sticking with the Sigma 24-70, I think these two lenses are in different universes. It's true that the Sigma 28-70 and Tamron 28-75 are really good, sharp, light lenses. I do a lot of event photography, so I use mine a bit more professionally, but I agree, for just a general walk-around lens, either your Sigma or the Tamron are great. I did have the Tamron at one time, but missed the 24mm so much that sold it and got the Sigma 24-70, and loving it!
@@shreyas5740 The newer version of the lens doesn't have much in the way of dust issues. But since I last made a comment in this post, have returned the Sigma because the focus was becoming spotty on my Sony A7riii. I decided to switch to the Sony 35mm f1.4 and Tamron 24mm f2.8. I still will use my Tamron 70-180 along with those for event photography. Sometimes you don't know what you want till you've tried out a lens for a particular period of time.
@@martin9410 Damn, that sucks. I recently purchased the new a74. I was looking to pair it with a good 24-70 mm. The new Sony GM 2 is really good but it's $2.3K. Sigma costs $1K but the issues mentioned are not really giving me confidence to purchase that. I'm not planning on buying additional lenses. I mainly do landscapes and so I hike a lot. The GM 2 seems to weigh very less and is very small in size too. I'm wondering if I should just go with this as an investment and use it for the near future. What do you think?
@@PavSZ btw I bought the Samyang. Regretting it. When I zoom, it gets out of focus while you are zooming. After the zoom it gets in focus again but then te shot is already ruined. Also don’t like the focus ring, it has a bit of latency
The samyang is the heaviest lens I have ever owned in my life! Also zooming in and out feels hard to do it’s not a smooth process. I do video I don’t take pics…
I had the Sigma and it was pretty heavy for me, I've since gotten rid of it, Samyang looks appealing and is cheaper than Sigma, but man 200g extra... I will break my wrist taking photos :')
Samyang is really close to the big leagues with Tamron and Sigma. They just need better AF systems and better build quality or should I say, consistent build quality.
I'll be fine with the first Tamron 28-75mm. I just throw it on my ZV-E10 so I can get that 1.5x crop for a 42-112.5mm lens. It's not as good as that new Tamron 35-15mm but it's close enough.
It's not parfocal, the focus just automatically adjust to keep the focus point. So basically an "electronic parfocal". Yeah, the marketing is questionable, but I appreciate that they implemented it because it's such a simple solution to make the lens at least useable for zooming while filming.
I can attest that the dust issue has been totally resolved following the serial number mentioned...and has been repaired by Sigma on request for the earlier models. I own the lens (newer) and have had absolutely no issue with dust...or anything else for that matter. Awesome lens!
Just sold my Tamron 28-75 G2 and bought the Sigma. I find the quality and picture of the Sigma lens much better. Plus, I love to be able to shoot at 24mm. But then again, I do a lot of event photography so my needs may be different than yours. I felt my Tamron had more contrast but less sharpness, but it could have just been the copy I had.
Which one would you choose?

I guess this will be an issue with a lot of these middle of the ground brands like Samyang. Sigma have had fair share of bad rep too

Nice review as always. I think I will wait to see what Sony comes up with with their mark two 24-70 ( currently I have Tamron 28-75 Mki). I have just got the Sigma 85 f1.4 and have been blown away by the quality. So if Sony's new lens does not excite me I will get the sigma. It's a shame it does not have the aperture ring as for this is only useful if all my lenses have it. One thing I think the Sigma would have in its favour is resale value over the Samyang

@@PavSZ When I moved from Canon to Sony I had to make some sacrifices with lens choice. I am now replacing some lenses. Sony 70-200 f4 for the 70-200 f2.8 mkii (great lens as was the f4) Sony 85 f1.8 for the sigma f1.8, Samyang 18mm f2.8 for the Sony 16-35 GM f2.8. A standard lens will be next, weight will play a part in my decision . I can afford the cost of a GM but it needs to be better and lighter as I think the Sigma is a great lens. A lot of my work is in London and involves lugging gear on and off tubes and up and down stairs (im an old git)
@@PavSZ Once out I will look at the Sony 24-70MKii but unless it has a trick up it's sleeve I think I will get the Sigma. I can afford the GM glass but im not stupid enough to buy it just for the badge.
@@PavSZ Sigma 24-70 now on it's way. I have been so impressed with my Sigma 85 f1.4 and this will go nicely with it. It also leaves room to get the Sony 35 GM f1.4 with the money I will save, which is crazy when you think about it.

Nice review, Pav! Apples-to-apples...between these two and the Tamron 28-70....which would you pick? BTW, I have wanted to buy the "Dust Whore' for a couple of years but so many people complained about it acting like a very good vacuum cleaner (sucking dust) that even the fact that Sigma (allegedly) fixed the problem...I can't rid myself of the bias against owning one.

Saving a few pennies currently translates to 800 Euros for the Samyang versus 1300 Euros for the Sigma in my country. 😁 My issue is that all my other lenses are "wrong way turning" Sigmas...but still...600 Euros could easily get me another cool lens or a trip that would allow me to take a bunch of great photos.

i have had Samyang, Sigma and Sony's versions of 35mm/1.4 and 24mm/1.4 and my opinion samyang's image quality has more 'metallic' looks and more contrasty compared to the other 2 brands. I can't prove it scientifically either but it's always the case for me

I bought this lens long time ago ,almost 1 year and a half...I broke it once ,the same problem with Bayonet.
I'm living in South Korea ,so there wasn't any problem to fix it, however I have some problem with Autofocus ,maybe it is because if the camera (Sony a7r3).
Let's say, u're using your Samyang for 3-4 hours photshoot ,after zooming in and zoom out , Samyang can not focus normally ,It can't find a subject or keeping breath constantly. So ,it gives me sense of entrust

I was told by Samyang that it was a problem with just early versions of the lens.
I think with the tolerances in manufacturing the quality difference even with first-party glass when new is going to be minimal. I think the differences we will see are in a few years, do the Samyang lenses have more plastic parts inside, do they use glue instead of screws? Will it stand up to the beating that a first-party lens will after years of use? As a working pro, I have sigma, Samyang, and first-party glass if it is my workhorse, everyday lens I might be more likely to go first-party I have 3 Samyang lenses, and 2 sigma lenses. I have had only 1 issue with Samyang glass I recently got a new Samyang 14mm RF mount 14mm that was decentered right out of the box, less likely to have that happen with a sigma or first-party lens. If you take a good picture no one, is going to know which lens you used even when pixel peeping.

Having lived in Japan for a cumulative 15 years of my life and have owned and extensively used multiple Japanese-made cameras and lenses over many years... from 35mm film cameras (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Bronica, Mamiya) to DSLRs (Including early Sony Digitals) to Mirrorless and large formats...I trust the Japanese' photographic manufacturing company's quality far more than the South Koreans...and especially not fond of less than critical manufacturing by the Chinese. The Japanese never cut corners, with great attention to detail, and fanatical dedication by their employees to top quality design and construction while being zealously loyal to their companies...and their customers. Now for the first time, I have converted entirely to the Sony Mirrorless Universe after many years of Canon DSLR's. What a significant difference in Sony's focus compared to Canon that is still primarily interested in their still photography customers with only casual attention to video shooters in their DSLRs and Mirrorless lines! (Common 29:59 minute video recording limit on most of their cameras!)
Sigma is a company with similar goals and ideals as Sony...and Tamron is partially owned BY Sony (about 15%) which tells a story about THEIR lens development, reputation, and attention to quality.

Samyang has more solid build, collects less dust on body, less flaring, more rounded bokeh, par focal, slightly better sharpness (seemed to me by pausing the video), colors too looked a bit better to me and also cheaper .... So many advantages and you still can't say that Samyang is the winner ?
I have a Samyang 14 mm RF and also L series RF ... my many times cheaper Samyang has a full metal body and feels ,uch more tougher than my L series build .... while also being very high quality ... I can say it's 85% of L series quality at a much smaller price ..... saymyang is truly doing wonders.

Hi Pav, how was your experience using the Samyang 24-70mm F2.8 ? I was planning to get one but whats holding me back is the base breaks of easily for some few customers due to poor build quality.
How was it until now?
I had a test unit from Samyang that goes from hands to hands for reviews and there was no issue with it
broke for me after couple of months of using it. the screws holding the lens to a mounting system are screwed into plastic. If you think about that lens being 1kg, there is a lot of pressure on the mounting point, which will inevitably break

My Samyang broke after falling from 20 cm to the ground. Those 4 screws of the bayonet broke out and its not reparable - im sad because the lense was nice. but its constructed to be destructed. And the weight was heavy during travel. thats why i used only this lense so that i dont have to carry any other with me. for weddings it was perfectly. Nothing the Sigma couldnt do and maybe its more robust

I have broke Tamrons and Sigmas when I dropped them from a very low hight. One was in the camera bag at the time too. Lenses are not made for dropping. Saying that, Samyang could do with a better construction for sure

No one talks about the zoom in/out ring on the sigma being the ring closer to the eye instead of the outer ring making it hard to zoom in and out
I don't think it is hard to use. If it is a lens that you use, you just simply get used to it
Has anyone had any problems with their samyang lens, particularly the base breaking off? The reason why I ask is because samyang is the same company as Rokinon. The Rokinon 24-70mm base breaks off internally due to screws being mounted to internal plastic parts.

Just want to ask you I just bought samyang 24-70 and it is pretty heavy now and I feel sorry for my Sony a7iii didn’t have any idea how heavy it’s like so I purchased it but now I am confused maybe considering the sigma? Is there any better? In terms of the weight? Does it make huge difference even thought there like about 200 grams difference? Please let me know. And also I am scared of getting it accidental damage as it is pretty heavy I am only a small lady 😂
Sigma is lighter and smaller. If the weight bothers you than Sigma is a better option.
There were reports of the mount coming off on Samyang lenses but they've told me that it was a problem with early copies of the lens. It should be fixed with any current ones now.

Samyang is NOT parfocal lens. they do do autofocus while you're zooming.

Since you got to use both of them did you try any action with them both? like capturing moving cars coming towards you or panning shots. I need a 24-70 f2.8 for my photgraphing dirt bikes and such and was curious about how fast either one acquires focus.

That’s not really a demanding thing for autofocus to be honest. I’d get the sigma as the samyangs mount is screwed into plastic and there’s a lot of reports of the lens mount breaking during normal use. I read one where the lens just fell off the camera and smashed. That’s unacceptable for the price.
Canon and Sigma zoom the same way, Nikon, Sony, Samyang, Tokina and Tamron the opposite.. Cheers.😉 Yeah i know made me crazy back in the day whenever i switched from Canon native to Tokina 😄

Sir, I am facing some problem while using Samyang 24-70 f2.8 with my Sony a7 IV. I have updated my sony a7 IV firmware but most of the time its hard to get pin point focus when I try to take pictures enabling single AF... When eye detection is enabled it either focuses behind the eye or nose plane...but sony GM shows me no problem ...
it could be a problem with the lens but also it could be issue with your a7IV - some copies suffer from that problem when shooting with certain lenses

It might be coming soon but it will also be double the price of Sigma for sure. It will be an amazing lens, no doubt but not everyone can stretch the budget or simply justify the kind of money GM lenses cost.

Having had both and now sticking with the Sigma 24-70, I think these two lenses are in different universes. It's true that the Sigma 28-70 and Tamron 28-75 are really good, sharp, light lenses. I do a lot of event photography, so I use mine a bit more professionally, but I agree, for just a general walk-around lens, either your Sigma or the Tamron are great. I did have the Tamron at one time, but missed the 24mm so much that sold it and got the Sigma 24-70, and loving it!

@@shreyas5740 The newer version of the lens doesn't have much in the way of dust issues. But since I last made a comment in this post, have returned the Sigma because the focus was becoming spotty on my Sony A7riii. I decided to switch to the Sony 35mm f1.4 and Tamron 24mm f2.8. I still will use my Tamron 70-180 along with those for event photography. Sometimes you don't know what you want till you've tried out a lens for a particular period of time.
@@martin9410 Damn, that sucks. I recently purchased the new a74. I was looking to pair it with a good 24-70 mm. The new Sony GM 2 is really good but it's $2.3K. Sigma costs $1K but the issues mentioned are not really giving me confidence to purchase that. I'm not planning on buying additional lenses. I mainly do landscapes and so I hike a lot. The GM 2 seems to weigh very less and is very small in size too. I'm wondering if I should just go with this as an investment and use it for the near future. What do you think?

@@PavSZ btw I bought the Samyang. Regretting it. When I zoom, it gets out of focus while you are zooming. After the zoom it gets in focus again but then te shot is already ruined. Also don’t like the focus ring, it has a bit of latency
The samyang is the heaviest lens I have ever owned in my life! Also zooming in and out feels hard to do it’s not a smooth process. I do video I don’t take pics…
I had the Sigma and it was pretty heavy for me, I've since gotten rid of it, Samyang looks appealing and is cheaper than Sigma, but man 200g extra... I will break my wrist taking photos :')

Samyang is really close to the big leagues with Tamron and Sigma. They just need better AF systems and better build quality or should I say, consistent build quality.

I'll be fine with the first Tamron 28-75mm. I just throw it on my ZV-E10 so I can get that 1.5x crop for a 42-112.5mm lens. It's not as good as that new Tamron 35-15mm but it's close enough.

It's not parfocal, the focus just automatically adjust to keep the focus point. So basically an "electronic parfocal".
Yeah, the marketing is questionable, but I appreciate that they implemented it because it's such a simple solution to make the lens at least useable for zooming while filming.

The dust issue for sigma 24 70 has been confirmed to be resolved by sigma? Can anyone confirm this after their mentioned serial number update?
I have used one of the later models for about a year in some very dusty situations on farm land and I have zero dust in the lens.
I can attest that the dust issue has been totally resolved following the serial number mentioned...and has been repaired by Sigma on request for the earlier models. I own the lens (newer) and have had absolutely no issue with dust...or anything else for that matter. Awesome lens!

Sigma have updated the design of the lens and the dust does not get into newer versions now. Older ones can be updated by Sigma free of charge

Just sold my Tamron 28-75 G2 and bought the Sigma. I find the quality and picture of the Sigma lens much better. Plus, I love to be able to shoot at 24mm. But then again, I do a lot of event photography so my needs may be different than yours. I felt my Tamron had more contrast but less sharpness, but it could have just been the copy I had.
