    Great selection! So many nice options for that system... Got also the A7 IV as my main cam and the Tamrons 28-75 II, 70-180 and 150-500 and the Sony 85mm f1.8. Even though it is by far the biggest the 150-500 amazed me the most lately. It's absolutely awesome. Will also add the Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 very soon and also have an eye on the Tamron 28-200 for extended hikes when I want my package light & compact. If I'd combine it with the Sigma and the A7C I could shoot 16-200mm under 1,5kg. Love that. 😎

    Great choices! It all depends on the ''look'' we want to achieve, desired compression, etc. Im a sucker for the 35mm focal length, however, a 20mm comes in handy from time to time. On the longer end I have liked the 100-400 from Sigma. Great lens without breaking the bank. And at the end of the day, we can never forget that its not about the tool, its about who is using it!

    My recent favorite is the Sony 20-70 G lens. However, I have a love-hate relationship with the Tamron 28-200 (mostly love). It is so versatile, with descent sharpness, but the color fringing drives me crazy. Despite that, it is on my camera 80% of the time and my favorite shots have come from that lens. Finally, I love the Sony 100-400, with is also surprisingly versatile.

      @@HoomanBhr 28-75mm is good enough I just find myself wanting 24mm (just want a little more wider), but it was my first lens. Great starter lens for both video and photo. It a good one lens for the day at a theme park or something where you need it all but I would prefer to have the constant f2.8 of the 28-75mm. 28-75mm would be my pick for first lens

    I owned 2 of lens in this video . Sigma 35mm DGDN & 28-70mm DGDN. I got to say I love 35mm so much its very versatile. I used it to shoot wedding especially night reception. f1.4 really helps at all. 28-70 on the other hand is useful for travel. its very light, & compact compared to its sigma 24-70 or Gmaster 24-70. one more lens I own is 85mm DGDN for portraits shot. its really good, sharp as GM for the half of the price. not to mention build quality great too. I can say Im Sigma fans so much.

    I have several GM lenses, for portraits, the king is the 135 1.8, every time I use it, puts a smile in my face,. O using third party lenses, I have the Tamron 28-75, tested against the GM 24-70 and could not tell the difference. Only issue with non native glass is that Sony cameras would not allow some features like breathing compensation or a good active IBIS, mostly video issues

    My choice is 7C + 24-70 f/2.8 GM II. I used to take the 100-400 along for travel, but I never used it. Looking at my picture data, I shoot "everything" at 40±15mm, so logically, why carry more? I recently acquired the 50mm f/1.2 GM, so I probably "must" take it along. I'll take my old Rotolight+EL trigger along. It is subtle magic if you keep an eye on what's happening. Saves you a lot of time in P+P.
    Plus, a little tripod for the camera or for the light.
    One body, two lenses, a light, a tripod.

    We work with the same camera, A7IV and very similar lenses. Honestly I don't see the reason owning a 24mm lens, since I use a 16-35 GM, a 20 G and the 35 GM lens for Wide Angle, Landscape, Street photography and Environmental Portraits. The 20mm G lens on the other hand is almost a 24mm lens on my FX3 turning on the active stabilization and the focus breathing compensation (which we finally got with the V3 firmware update). Other than that I also use the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 (my favorite travel/portrait lens) and the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 all-around lens, but honestly I use it more for videos than photos (very versatile for videos, also very boring for photos).

      @@MitchLally well the two sigmas match each other well. The same can be said for the two Tamron’s pair together. Not sure if either pair is better than the other but I favored consistence. Like the wider Sigma at 16-28/2.8 and it’s full internal design to pair with the 28-70/2.8.

    A zoom lens would be more appropriate?

    • @cmelkoman
      @cmelkoman ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I own a a6400 for few years and it’s great starting point to build your photography skills and to see what’s your style. The question is what are you going to shot…? For portraits sigma 56mm is the best, but quite limiting for a start to only have this lens. If you could get an sigma 16mm with 56mm, that would be enough for many scenarios. Or go with the tamron 17-70mm f2.8, a great and sharp lens and you are set for few years. Otherwise,if you can only buy one lens, i would go with sigma 30mm - this focal length is better suited to start your photography. All the best!

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes depends on what you want to shoot, how you want it to look and what your goals are. I've seen some incredible shots recently even just shot on an iPhone. I think learning photography and practicing is waaay more important than what brand or format you buy. Personally I do recommend full frame - but aps-c is great and if it means you can put some of that saved cash toward an epic photography trip I wouldn't turn my nose up at that idea.

Especially since my all time favourite lens for my Sony A7R3 is Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN, just fabulous lens! Is there any other reason to choose Sigma 35 over GM? 😊 Thank you!

      @MitchLally  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No - for all intents and purposes they perform so similarly that I could toss a coin to decide which to own and be happy with whichever way it landed :) The GM is a tiny bit lighter but the Sigma has the extra switches on the lens body which are nice.Oh - if you're shooting video the Sigma won't support lens breathing control! That a big one for some people who care about that stuff.

      I had the Sigma for over 2 years and just got the GM. They are indeed very similar but the weight and size difference is pretty noticeable. The GM feels way more balanced on the camera. But optically they are about the same, the GM is better but that‘s really splitting hairs. What I think is pretty interesting: I think the AF is snappier on the Sigma, especially when focusing from close to far away - I use it on an a7iii btw. Also, to me the Sigma feels more premium because of the metal. Still, I decided to switch because of the size and weight. This is the only lens that is not Sigma in my line-up, all the others (24mm f1.4 DG DN, 85mm f1.4 DG DN and 24-70 f2.8 DG DN), I prefer Sigma over Sony. If they update the 35mm f1.4 and make it similar the size of the GM, I will get that lens for sure.

      @@g33k3301 thank you so much for your comment! I ended up getting a Sony 35mm GM over 5 months now and it's definitely not a regret, the lens is pin sharp, lightweight and comfortable on the camera. I’ve always enjoyed photography, but just recently I’ve decided to take it a little bit more serious. My first professional camera being the a7Rv. The 70-200 Gmaster Mark 2 has been glued to my camera, I’m in love with how sharp and how fast the AF is. The Sigma 24-70 was my first lens and although it’s an amazing lens, I’m loving the longer focal lengths. My newest and I think it just might be my favorite is Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN.

    Pass on Tamron. From my experience, those are trash. I had the Tamron 28-75mm, & 28-200mm. I bought them because of the "Pro" photographer's HYPE them up. STUPID! The 28-200mm caused my camera to freeze, had to remove battery and thank goodness it worked again, and the color fringing was out of this world. I returned them the next day. The Tamron 28-75mm is just a bit better than the Sony kit FE 28-70mm (yes I tested them), but not $800.00 dollars worth. I'd rather use the Kit 28-70mm than waste my money on the Tamron's. Save your money! Too much hype for plastic crap. People are hyping it up because of the f2.8. But these camera now days that such good high ISO. Unless you shoot in the dark. You can picked up a used (why buy new) and get a native Sony FE 24-105mm G f4 for about $600.00. Pro lens, and if you buy it used without the PRO price. Then you will have all your focal ranges covered. And you can add a prime for fun if you'd like. GREAT video btw.

      You're assuming that the more expensive native lenses are better and worth the extra money, and that's a pretty poor and uninformed assessment. Up until recently, Tamron and Sigma were pretty much kicking Canon, Sony and Nikon native lenses in image quality, features and build. It's only in the last 3 years or so that the big 3 caught up to the competition from Tamron and Sigma and perhaps surpassed them in some metrics. The tamron 35mm f1.4 is probably the best 35mm for any mount still all around though.
