Spearfishing New Zealand Ep. 3: White Island

- In this episode I travel down the Coromandel Peninsula, stopping first at Hot Water Beach to soak and relax.
Then headed down to meet Bradley in Kawerau, where we headed out for a quick hunt for some stags. The next morning we shot out to White Island. Diving there for a variety of species including Yellowtail Kingfish, Pink and Blue Moa Moa, Sculpin or Scorpion fish and many others. As well as seeing some good size Bronze Whaler sharks, Common Dolphin and being immersed in a massive Anchovy bait ball. It really was a spearfishing trip and adventure of a lifetime!

Dan I love your videos this is big youtuber quality content. The back round story and the explanation of what you're doing and where you're going is fantastic you really put the me into your footsteps. Also the fish your catching are so cool and how you're doing it is even cooler. Not many people can dive 100ft down then pull up 40 pound kingfish swimming at 30 mph. Overall your videos are great and it bring me great joy to see you're coming out with more. If you can get your videos out there and consistently produce high quality videos I can see you becoming a bug youtuber and to potentially having a career. Great work!!!!
Thanks Thomas, I am glad you enjoy the content. But I have yet to shoot any fish at 100ft as of yet. The deepest I usually shoot a fish is a little bit under 80ft. I'll work to start getting out the rest of the episodes, should be around 27 more from my around the world tour. Cheers buddy.

at about 13 min, you have the kingi side on. If it shakes its head you could get head butted. l had a 27kg kingi do that once, its dangerous! I don't have them side on since... maybe a thought to be considered?

Thanks Deon, yes I usually use a break-away setup. If something happens, I don't risk loosing my gun or camera.

It was just some $20 mask I got on Amazon about 8 years ago...… And I just lost it diving today. lol

Nothing really special about it. Any dive shop could help you get the right weights per your suit and body weight.
How long did it take you to learn how to freedive?
I did a bit of it when I was a kid, so some of it came natural. But anyone can learn in a couple of weeks with a good teacher.

It is widely accepted to be very dangerous. I try to go out with a buddy when I can, like my good buddy in this video.

Is there such a thing as a reel on a spear gun,so you can reel it in?,if not,why not?.
There is and I have one attached to mine. But for many reasons, I prefer to use a breakaway system when in open water chasing bigger fish.
@@Adventureman_Dan Good to hear,but why not use it to make pulling it in easier? Work smarter not harder i say :-)
@@Andy_M986 A break away system is much easier to pull in because of the thicker line and it's attached to a float. Also this allows me to use my gun to just film and not worry about it all getting taken away if I spear something too big or a shark takes my fish.
