    Hi neighbor! Just watched this… and I’m prepping my fig cuttings now. Thanks for posting this.

    Thanks for the video. It always helps to see other perspectives. 100% agree with the bottom watering.

    I got a skinny De Tres Esplets cutting with 6 nodes this winter. By far the strangest cutting I have. I cut it in half and now they both have the tiniest buds growing from them. Can tell already that it has a unique growing pattern.

    Gnatrol EVERY time I water. And only bottom water. Gonna try those things; thanks!

    My way is similar to your setup here. I had an order of cuttings that got stuck in transit for an extra day. They've been rooting for over a month & still no root nodes, I know I'm going to lose at least one, probably all of them. Just goes back to your mention of the quality of cuttings I think, because I had 100% success last yr doing my method & so far this time it looks like 100% failure.

      Bummer. It’s tough. And it’s not just east to west. I would assume folks back east would need to be careful ordering from the west coast as well. Just important to look at the weather when shipping.

    What have had success with in combating voles? I know in containers you use pottery shards at the bottom.

      @@jonahschmidt5117 keeping grass mowed helps. That’s the trade off of having the dogs, they seem to be able to keep them a little more in check.

    haha, I found some in a ditch as well up by Pasedena on a trip to CA. I grabbed a few cuttings, but there were no fruits, so it's unlikely to be anything special. One had really interesting leaves, so we'll see what happens.

      A couple of these were female. I doubt they’ll be common. Just a fun follow up on the road trip.

    Haven't heard of Sunshine Mix before. I'll have to look for it next time I'm at the Ace here in WA. I will probably do a mix of tree pots and clear cups this year. I have a couple large cuttings that I think would be much better off starting in a tree pot. But I do really like to see the roots grow. :) Do you disinfect your cuttings first with bleach or hydrogen peroxide? I didn't notice you mention it.

    • @Loftinart
      @Loftinart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends. Most of my trees are pretty clean. Stuff that comes in dirty I’ll scrub with antibacterial soap. That’s about it.

    How often do you bottom water?
    When you do water, do you leave the water In the bottom or do you drain it after a period of time ?

    • @Loftinart
      @Loftinart  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I only put about a 1/2 inch of water in the bin. I water when pots feel light weight. It’s not very scientific.

    Is it better to wrap cuttings in parafilm or dip top of cuttings in wax?

    • @Loftinart
      @Loftinart  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I usually use parafilm but it works either way. The problem I’ve had with wax is it flakes off before I want it to.

      I've been using wood glue that seems to work just fine.

    I have some fig cutting just blooming, I knows it’s towards the end of the season, do you think I should do this method since they aren’t as big?

    • @Loftinart
      @Loftinart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I had any that were only just rooted I’d protect them over the winter for sure.
