I love how Carson reacts to each newfangled invention (typewriter, telephone, toaster) as if it’s a bomb that’s about to go off. It’s not included here, but the typewriter scene is one of my favorites!
The last scene is why I became a fan of Downton Abbey. I came to it late. This was the first episode. When I saw this sweet moment between Carson and Mrs Hughes it brought a tear to my eye and a decision to watch all of it.
I liked all of those ideas as well. I joked with my friends, who live in Russia, that if I ever went to go visit them, I would drag them along to all of the places I have read about in my books. Lol.

I recently began watching the show. In fact, earlier tonight, I started season 2. It’s… one hell of a cast, that’s for sure! But Carson has been an early favorite.

I love a lot of characters but not Mary. Edith gree on me and i was so sorry to lose Sybil. Lord and Lady Grantham are a treat. Rose is no replacement for Sybil. I go back and forth on characters.
I love Carson bc of what he adds to the show. But he is an odious man. His views and treatment of people at the same status level as him echos an ignorant and sick era that I’m so glad we’ve all progressed from.
I hated his character very much, I think Carson was the worst of all. Stubborn, living in a dream, very little sympathy for others. And he never learned, never changed. Absolutely overrated.
