    Two notes,
    1. As always I get tons of comments about price from people either looking locally in an expensive market. Or doing the lazy search on eBay to see crazy ASKING prices from scalpers who take a shot in the dark (not expecting to sell). As I have said before, a good deal doesn't sit and wait for you. You need to have a couple of trusted sources and check regularly. Ive seen several well bellow 400 both in stores with warranty and eBay in the last couple of months.
    2. I forgot to mention another plus with these older versions with older processors. The battery life is really good 👍

    • @beckmp4
      @beckmp4 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Mattias, thank you so much for your encouragement with all of the time and effort that you put into reading and reply to your comments on top of all of the other work that you do. If I may (😅), I can't speak for others, but for myself I don't believe that I'm being lazy. I understand that the deals aren't waiting for you and that you have to do the work of a hunter, but I feel that I lack those trusted sources and other knowledge and skill needed to find those low prices. I've watched some videos in the past that give advice on how to make better searches, but I didn't have much success putting into practice what I learned from those particular people. How did you get so good at finding great bargains? I would love to learn and improve and I'm sure that others would also greatly appreciate your teaching with whatever you're willing to impart if you would further elaborate on your points. If you've already done this mentioning a direct reference with a link to it in this video and-or in the description might be helpful. Thank you for your patience and understanding and, as always, for your excellent videos and beautiful photography.

I bought the X100s in 2013 and mine is one of the early models having the serial number 272. It was not easily available in the UK at the time so I imported mine from Hong Kong. Despite having a room full of pro gear the Fuji X100s is still my go to camera for personal work. It has travelled with me across Europe and the USA many times and has never produced a poor image. A photograph taken with the X100s won me the title of photographer of the year in a competition run by a regional newspaper here in the UK back in 2014. It was the camera I grabbed to record the first pictures of my new grandson a few weeks ago. If I had a complaint it would be the battery meter does not show the battery discharging it gos from 100% to zero without notice so I have learned to carry a spare battery.

X100VI is on my wishlit once it will be available. I mean the bump in resolution is nice but the addition of IBIS makes it the real perfect package to travel, because now you can shoot handheld in every situation and the biggest point is for video, you get high quality video with film simulation and ND which is crazy.
No need to color grade, no need to bring ND filters, you can just shoot your film simulation like eterna in 4k or 6k with stabilization.

I purchased my x100s in 2023. It turned out to be my gateway-drug into the Fuji system. Love the camera. Yes, too large, too slow, but it makes you want to take it with you, it makes you look ate the world as photos, makes you shoot and experiment. Prices for the X100 series in Australia are quite high. A photographer I met bought the original for around $250 AUD, and then when the X100V shortages started prices for the original X100 went up to around $1000 AUD.
I considered going for the X100V when it came out but couldn't justify it as I have the X100F, which in my opinion is still an amazing camera today.

It has everything I need for street photography and travel photography. The 16 megapixel is sufficient. Partly due to the hype surrounding the X100V, prices have risen. I bought the X100s twice and regrettably sold the 2nd time just before its used price hiked up by 50% in my country Malaysia.
I only have an X70 now but I'm way more satisfied. Though it lacks the viewfinder I found that I don't miss it, in fact I don't even use the lcd to compose, I just point the 28mn in a general direction and capture candid street portraits, most people never notice the camera! Perfect for Vivian Maier style photos.
So why not go fo the GR if I don't even use the LCD? 1. Used GR/GR2 are hard to come by in Malaysia, 2. I did find that the tilting lcd is useful at times and simulates waist-level finder shooting, and 3. SOOC recipes have been a blessing.
Tip: If youre a jpg recipe shooter, aim for the X100T instead which has Classic Chrome if possible, to simulate Kodak stocks

Just got my x100s from eBay, the x100s within the States is going for around $600 to $700+ depending on the seller. I managed to get mine for $500 plus tax with a lot of accessories including a bag. So far it’s definitely worth the money and I’ll be using this a lot and getting used to Fuji cameras.

Welcome back Mattias! It is so good to see you on TH-cam again. I still shoot my trusty X100S on regular occasions. There are tons of things it indeed struggles to do automatically (like for example "focusing"! 😂), but you can work around them (by zone focusing, for example). There are also a couple of things it does that few cameras (outside of the X100 range) can do, for example: shooting portraits wide open in full daylight with the integrated ND filter and filler flash synced at pretty much any speed.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter

Indeed a great camera. One note, the last point isn’t exclusive for the X100. It can be done with all fixed lens cameras. In fact the x100 is one of the few that can’t do it at full speed 😀

Same great X-Trans II sensor that the S has, but the dial and button layout on the back of the camera is refined and completely takes care of all the "little" complaints I had about my S. I was looking for a used X100 series camera for a long time, but they are almost as elusive in my country, as Nessie, the Loch Ness monster... Today I found an used X100s at my local camerashop in pristine condition - really, it looks like it came from the factory yesterday - with only 19400 photos taken, one year of warranty, for 500 Euros. Good to see you back, Mattias. Always missed. :)
About the X100s: had one in the past, was the only camera that I bought without "a reason" - only because it looked so cool.
Was a very complicated relationship. Always hated the poor performance of the lens in short distances wide open - a flaw only corrected with the new lens on the X100V. And (surprisingly) was very disappointed with bad perfonce on low light - had a LX100 in the same time and in a recording studio shot, the LX100 raws were much better in termos of noise.
But when everything worked well...my most beloved shot, one from my (now deceased) cat, was simply perfect straight out of camera. Colors, bokeh, everything. There are at least more 10 shots almost as good as that. But...I was already disappointed.
Maybe I will take a 2nd try - albeit I unearthed my LX100 for the Carnival here in Brazil and was surprised with the results (with editing - the JPGs are very bad, but the RAWs are VERY good).

I use the X-S10 as my main camera, but I've always found the rangefinder style beautiful. The X100 series is beautiful, but I find the fixed lens limiting and I would miss the option to change it. So it is a fact that 23mm (35mm) is a super universal focus, but sometimes a longer or wider glass is useful. So I bought a used X-E1 and found it to be an excellent camera. I've started taking it with me a lot more than my X-S10 for casual photography. After a year I bought a used X-E2 and I would say that the E2 or E3 is the ideal camera if you want an X100 with many lenses. From the E2 model you have eye focus available, better AF overall, classic chrome simulation. You can pair it with many AF and manual lenses and achieve a similar size as the X100. Great choice.
