It doesn't matter how good your subwoofer is if it's not placed correctly. Sound is sound, and even the best subwoofer in the world can sound poor in the wrong location. But we're fixing that 😏
It's a Long tedious process of trying out all the locations and angles- the perfect placement in the room. Then there's the Amp Gains, Frequency levels too. My OSD Trevoce 12's is very weird but it doesn't sound that good when the Sub Amp Gain is 50 to 75% but when i turned the knob gain to 35-45% it's Super Deep hard hitting Bass like Beast Mode. I think 40% is the sweet spot now.
Still have not used DSP adjustment but i set the Onkyo Receiver Sub crossover to 50 HZ for most movies. 40 HZ for Edge of Tomorrow and Godzilla. 60 HZ for war movies like 13 Hours Benghazi, Lone Survivor. When using LFE cable then 80 HZ is the best which is also good for THX modes.
I wondered if you could get a better response with both of them up front. Gene D. Matt P. Anthony G. All 3 spoke of how they should be up front. I have just watched a video about the sealed subs and how they are much easier to get low if you have 2 both flanking each speaker.
@MichaelLHill-fd3kw that's what I did in this video. Both are up front but we aren't fitting 3. I'm going to move the 3rd around off camera and see what happens
I don't think I've seen these guys recommend putting both subs up front as a general rule, I mean sometimes that works best, but often not, the room dictates the best spot. That said ,1/4 & 3/4 spots along the front wall can work well if you can adjust the seating distance
IMHO, the DIY sub was in a good/complimentary position to start with.....it just needed some shelf filters to boost the low end, so it's STARTING with a fairly flat response, most DIY sealed subs need this, just as ALL commercial sealed subs have it inbuilt from the manufacturer. I'd take a near field measurement of the DIY sub and the Rythmik and compare the 2. Take it an inch or so from the front of the box, dead centre between the 2 drivers. Jiles McCoy has a good video showing this with a DIY sealed Harbottle 18" sub
@@jamiet74 this is a very good point, that what he's seeing with his rear sub as compared to the Rythmik might very well be the difference between baked-in DSP vs. not, and in that case it makes sense that naturally his DIY sub would not be contributing as much to the ultra-lowend. To that end I'd say some shaping of the rear sub response would be warranted, but he knows this, and the gain from better placement to the response of the Rythmimic is kinda a separate issue to that

Amazon has Movie Camera with big Microphone should be good for recording my Subwoofer/ Home Theater video clips. They are $150 or Less and No-Name brands from China. 5K and 4K movie camera are $109 and $143- I will get the 5K with 10X Optical zoom as it's only $143. I'm just looking for a Microphone to record the subwoofer and attached already to the camera less problems of connecting via XLR if bought a Sennheiser Microphone for $100-150. Just way easier and simple.
And every movie is going to be way different for bass. I really like Godzilla (2014) and Edge of Tomorrow for bass. But Interstellar has 3 scenes with Rocket Bass and the Black Hole which are super violent bass the neighbor will hear.
Not sure if it’s coincidence or not, but in my room I’ve observed that the closer I am to the sub the less low end under 30hz I get when I measure but there’s more tactile energy. Moving the sub further away results in more low end in a measurement but less tactile feel.
OSD Trevoce 15's, OSD Trevoce 15'.... Trevoce 15's Brother ! Waiting for the video. There's actually 1 video now on the OSD FS12 dual ported, but it's a Joke as just AI computer talking or giving the Specs and features. Not a real video review on TH-cam
I decided to delete my former comment, since I realised it was condescending. I also hadn't noticed just how little the addition of the other subs contributed to your output at the sub-bass frequencies. Though at those frequencies, it still confuses me somewhat that placement was that critical. At your room-size, we're well below the modal region at 20 Hz, and you should simply have a pressure zone. Either way, I'm glad to see it got better. Have you checked to see whether the different placement negatively affected seat-to-seat consistency?
Your comment was fine! If I didn't like it, I wouldn't have responded to it. I haven't had enough time after recording this video to play around. I do know that in my seat, it sounds better. I'm getting louder bass at the lower frequencies without a physical volume change which was the goal BUT I want to take the ceiling sub out and put it in the room and see if I can positively add to what's been achieved so far. I've been lucky that what I hear in 1 seat has been close to the same in the other which may be all thanks to my rectangular/symmetrical room. I'm excited to demo nonetheless !
@@Kpaceguy, I can totally relate to that "feel" of the bass changing when you get it right. It's like it's more forceful without the actual SPL measurement changing. I assumed it was phase- or impulse-related

Yes, your room has less influence on it the closer you are to it. And naturally you feel thr vibration more since it's less diffused
