  • While I was in St Pete an environmental activist came by the International House riding an new model of electric bicycle called a PEBL. I give a little review of it here and also talk about some delicious local foods in St Pete.

    The PEBL company closed it's doors in MA & supposedly moved it's business to the Netherlands. Check the multitude of BBB complaints of buyers who "Paid in Full" over $10,000 years ago & are still waiting on their Pebl to be built & delivered. Funny how these type vehicles just disappear out of reach of the general public but Gas Guzzling SUVs are Always highly attainable.
    99% of the many All electric micro EVs are just concept cars not in production.

      There's just not a high enough demand in the US, unfortunately. There's a lot of buzz and interest in this kind of thing, but we live in a society of car infrastructure and these things, used or new, cost around or in the same price range as a car. It becomes an extra toy, like a golf cart, and not the city car replacement it's designed to be used for
      Organic transit ELF was a bigger success than this and it still went defunct years ago. Yes, it's owned by another company that's allegedly gonna make a revised model, but it's still gonna flop like all of these did
      I hate that this is the case, but such is the way of American culture. Those that can most benefit from this kind of thing just can't afford it and those that can already have the luxury of being able to have multiple forms of transportation without using an etrike. Given that costs can't go down if there isn't mainstream appeal, it's a real chicken and egg scenario

      @@davidlane1248 Sometimes it's all about Timing. If a young entrepreneur used today's technology & kept his overhead costs to a minimum without investors involved & had a fool proof marketing strategy he could pull it off.
      The day & age of the Micro cars is coming in the near future for local commuting. If you don't believe me take a look at China they are ahead of the US by light-years so is Japan. Both are producing these All Electric Micro cars for the masses & there is definitely a high demand for them. I can purchase one from Canada for $6k.
      I'm talking about building & selling them for Half that cost & yes it can be done.

      @@miguelsalami we're talking about countries with high density and the infrastructure to support those kinds of vehicles. The US isn't even remotely close to that- some small areas yes, but not overall
      Furthermore, just look at recumbent trikes. Not etrikes or velomobiles, just plain old recumbent trikes. They cost a lot. Around 1000$ starting and going up to 3-6K or more depending on brands. Some of it is obviously just hobby tax, but those kinds of trikes cost so much because demand isn't high enough to get factory assembly as a cost cutter. I just don't think there's any fancy maneuvering someone can do to minimize the costs to make these viable UNTIL there's already a demand for these things
      I can't emphasize enough how much I wish I were wrong. I hope to be proven wrong soon

      Popeye Gordon Is this better than your elf?🤔🤔🤔

    • @popeyegordon
      @popeyegordon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hakeemshabazz3207 The ELF never had to have its body shell completely redesigned. The ELF is the original, sold for 4 years before the first PEBL was sold. It was designed by a Porsche racing team engineer and a man who worked on the team that broke the land speed record for human powered vehicles. Guess which design copied the other. I like all sustainable designs that can help reduce the abuse of heavy over sized personal cars. If you can tolerate the very loud gear reduction motor in the PEBL it will be a warmer choice for cold climates but the optional solar roof that is standard on all ELFs is useful even in northern climates in summer. I'm in Florida where every bit of ventilation is very important for summer use and I get so much from my solar panel that I have never run the 17AH battery down even once. PEBL needs larger batteries due to weight and no solar. I'm starting my 5th year with no car, just the ELF for all transportation. I weigh 300 pounds and the ELF hauls me up hills just fine, and quietly with a motor that has no internal reduction gears to scream. The 45 pound lighter weight of the ELF is much more important to me than a fancy trunk lid, knee bashing wood dashboard or body shell liner that would mildew in Florida. The PEBL is so heavy they had to offer an optional cheater switch called "off road mode" which doubles motor wattage limits. It is technically illegal under federal ebike laws which limit power to 750 watts but without it owners would be very unhappy with the hill climbing power of the PEBL. Watch more ELF videos and Eric Fischnaller's excellent series on his PEBL before you decide.

      Popeye Gordon Yeah, I was at his channel yesterday. Thanx for replying again! I like the ELF better, but I would love to see them both on a video going head to head climbing up hills, racing and overall distance!

    • @popeyegordon
      @popeyegordon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hakeemshabazz3207 These are the heavy hauler SUVs of bikes, not for racing. Distance? Three ELFs have completed 4000 mile cross country trips. The PEBL will lose on courses that require power because it weighs 70 pounds more than the ELF, unless the PEBL's optional 1500 watt illegal "off-road mode" switch is activated.

    HOW MUCH?

  • @popeyegordon
    @popeyegordon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We'll see how it does but there are numerous problems with the design for now. The hemp stuff appeals to hippies but is it recyclable at end of life? 1000 Organic Transit ELFs have been sold, their rooftop solar panel is great, mine keeps my battery charged without even thinking about it, it's like perpetual motion. The ELF shell is recyclable vacuum formed trylon, tough and light weight. Three 4000 mile trips have been done in the ELF and with 4 million road miles logged in 5 years they have been in 17 car/ELF collisions so far with no serious injuries beyond bruises. So safety is as important as sustainability. Due to the PEBL weight being 40 pounds more than the ELF, and the lack of solar charging, that much larger heavier more expensive battery is needed plus time and energy to charge it. Get the solar option if you buy this PEBL but first check out the many videos about the ELF, this is one of the better ones: th-cam.com/video/r_xDuHuk4_E/w-d-xo.html

      Update - Glad to see the PEBL selling well so far despite the change to fiberglass which makes it now 70 pounds heavier than the ELF. I'm in year 5 with my ELF, got rid of my car.
