I live in Johannesburg South Africa, where criminals can pick up an AK-47 for the price of 3 loaves of bread. New York City is a civilized 1st world city compared to 3rd world Africa. This place is a nightmare if your head isn't on a swivel. Home invasions where they take out everyone are commonplace, 3 generations of a family, their pets, any staff on site.. just a blood-bath and it doesn't even make the news or the papers. Car hijackings are a particular menace because they just shoot you in your car, then drag your lifeless body out and drive off. Women don't stand a chance here, it's the rape capital of the world. The criminals are heavily superstitious, they believe that raping a white woman will cure their AIDS. Which is a particular problem if you're, I dunno.. a white woman for example. That same van here in Johannesburg, you'll park it outside a shop and before you come out with a pkt of smokes it will be a vacant parking space. You'll park it to get a night's rest and when you wake up it will be on bricks and the wheels will be gone.
I love watching about van life but personally I couldn't do without a shower and toilet. Very impressed by the people that live this life.

For shower and toilet you can subs for a gym. Of course there is a dirty gym. All you need is to choose clean one. In my place you can go gym everyday and had hot shower

Yeah the problem is bathroom, take a shower? Taking a shit? Also you cant have a TV or a desktop pc or a washing mashine, microwave, stove, like theres basically surviving inside the van , also its super not safe, you need to keep paying atention all times so you keep yourself safe. If you do this for some years its om but live in a van for more than 2 years is surreal for me.
@@lukasausen you can use public bathrooms,Nobody uses Tv when you can mostly do it on your phone/laptop.
Desktop pc can be replaced by a laptop,also you can just custom build a spot to place your desktop pc with some good holder so it wont shake when the van is moving.microwave isnt really that needed you can just cook yourself cause living solo you dont too cook a lot,just enough for a day,and you can also still use microwave there its pretty small.mini stove and electric stove exist.
The safety i guess is the only real concern i agree.from human made danger to natural disasters.

That's what i am thinking. It miss a place to go to toilet & shower. If that upgrade possible. It would be perfect.
Best you can do is a compost. Anything flushing would require large space for water tank and waste storage, and paying and connecting to campgrounds.
I know she is sweet that’s why I would never live in a van because I care about where I take a shit, when I was homeless for a few months it’s bad, nothing beats your own personal bathroom, sometimes a hotel was a blessing, now I finally came back home as after all that drama and my toilet is marble floors, high tech everything, got 50 bathrooms 50 houses we own now we rent out, what a change, All the best to everyone out there that is good.

Why? Claustrophobic? My room is small, but my eyes always on PC monitor and smartphone, looking at the world outside also virtual game world. So I don't feel claustrophobic.
All I can say is “WOW” This young lady has talent for sure. It’s unbelievable how well she did and how creative she is. Absolutely beautiful and so cool.

I wonder if she has a backup battery even though she said that she usually always have like 80% to 90% charge on her car battery but even though she had solar you never know how the weather will be just seems like a good idea to have sum kind of backup power source
It's probably not the car battery she's running the electronics off of. She had a whole panel under the bench for the electrical, so I would assume she has an entire separate battery bank for running everything else, and the car battery is for the van alone.
Love her creativity and planning. She looks like a fun person to hang out with, too.
Yeah not having a bathroom is a big no for me. I converted my van with my husband and now I live full time on it and having a bathroom and shower is very good. I'm thinking about posting a video about it but I'm not good at talking with a camera in front of me.

@@baoboba the gym showers at my local ymca give you access to soap, hot water, steam rooms, and blow dryers. not only is it convenient after a sweaty workout but it is used as an essential by many unhoused or elderly people who don't get access to these facilities on a regular basis.

This is so cute and loved how she incorporated so much personalityto her space. I'd love to hear more about how she prepares for unexpected disasters aside from the towing incident. Or just overall safety precautions when traveling to a new city. I know personally I'd be afraid a drive-by would occur while I'm trying to sleep.

All these videos of people living in vans and campers don't inspire me at all. There are challenges and stresses despite the savings that don't come with having an entire apartment to yourself with all basic amenities. This video was too positive to be realistic. But I understand if she and the interviewer didn't want to talk about the darker aspects more.
