I loved the edit on this one! The piano decision, cutting in little Tiffany playing the same piece, the soft outro with the lovely animals... All the feels 😺. Thank you for your continued efforts in sharing your journey with us.

My friend and I came up to see you Tiffany. You were absolutely phenomenal, the Ravel was the best I’ve ever heard.
Nobody would ever have guessed that you were feeling under the weather whilst you were playing!
Also, you know you’ve made it as a pianist when you get 4 pianos with 2 actions each to choose from 😂😂

As a boy I had the joy of playing on our own Steinway at home, and I will never forget the force and power of the low end and the pearly mid highs, so I was saying "A1 A1" as you were picking your piano, but you chose wiser for such a large hall. It's interesting how much you listen to each instrument and the hall as well and talk to them. It's like a dialogue, or a dance.

I briefly worked as a small venue sound set-up guy for minor-league pop/jazz gigs. I also played drums, often w/partial house drum kits (especially while on the road). And was a record label touring band manager for a minor artist. I really appreciate the whole potential "saga" of decision-making/etc... involved in meeting the instrument you must play just before your performance! Very impressive.

I was so excited when you came to London! I wasn't sure what to expect but I have to say your ravel was outstanding. As it built every noise in the hall fell away and as I was swept along I saw the stage shifting and warping, as if you were on the ocean. It was an experience like no other and is a testament to your virtuosity. It goes to show how a live performance can transcend any other experience. I hope you come back to London again!

Can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate this video! This sequence of choosing the right piano, tipping us off to what you're thinking and hearing educated me and I found myself nodding and understanding. That felt so good to be back into the music again, from this esoteric yet essential level. I also found myself moved, feeling what you felt, feeling what you went through, the little flashbacks to the little you, the feelings about the homemade congee... Well. Moved. I do so love hearing music from the inside, the way you do these things for us.

    I love this place immediately.
the cat was a sister at heart. (or was it a brother?)

Love this video Tiffany, so interesting to see your process in selecting the piano and the depth of critique you brought to the process. You made a very wise choice and tamed the piano beautifully during the concert. I think your performance of la valse will live in my memory always, simply outstanding. Great saying hello to you afterwards despite having to run for my train home (well worth it!). Please come back to the UK soon (try up north, lots of great places here!).

In a fugues Exposition the first theme always appears in the tonic as the subject (in German it’s called "dux" , which is Latin for leader) and is then followed by a second theme-entrance , the answer, on the dominant ( in German it’s called the "comes" (Latin for companion)). The comes/ answer imitates the theme of the dux either "real" (exactly the same Intervalls as in the dux, just one fifth above) or tonal (slightly different Intervalls, so that the answer stays in the same key). Usually the other voices follow again in the tonic or dominant, the exposition is complete, when each voice has had one entrance.

Tiffany Poon aims to make classical music accessible to everyone, challenging the traditional notions of 'highbrow culture' as an elite and exclusive domain.
Wow-how interesting! My speakers and sound system are good enough for me to discern whether a piano has a good, expressive sound (and is in tune), but appreciating the nuances in the hall and the instrument is challenging. I particularly loved your performance on piano A1 in Chopin’s Op. 28 No. 24; perhaps that's because you played so much of it. However, if my understanding of acoustics holds, the important aspect is the piano's middle register, where expressivity is largely determined by the condition-soft or hard-of the hammerheads. Schumann's Kinderszenen might be best suited for this. If seeking a Chopin piece to explore the middle register, Op. 28 No. 4 is obviously appropriate, though it doesn't showcase all tonal "colors." Perhaps the ballads could reveal more, for example, the F major ballad with its song-like theme and the contrasting violently fluttering fortissimos that range from deep basses upward. You perform so wonderfully, and I appreciate your insights into what it's like to give a concert.

Hi Tiffany. Congrats on your success. However, clever, talented and accomplished artists like you don't spend their time making debutS... A debut is the first public appearence, period; it's supposed to mark the special moment a musician transitions into "artisthood". Then what you do next is "playing for the first time" in whatever new place you may go to. You know, you did prove your worth in so many situations before. Thou shalt not make it sound like thou art somehow
    underrating yourself.
